When the racists think the racist you bow to is your king racist, and you can’t disown him because of reasons, you many not be a racist, but it’s time to take a long hard look in the mirror, because you may not be that honest with yourself...

That's assuming people who vote for him think of race as their top issue, for most people it's not even a top 10 issue, most people just want to provide for their family, have a safe and secure life and not worry about all of this constant barrage of accusations and put downs coming from social media etc.

How long have people of color, women and gay people been going on tv talking about how evil straight white men are? Most straight white men that I know never think about how to try to screw over a person of color, a gay person or a woman but if you pay attention to many forms of media in the last decade you could easily find that message. Of course when they'd try to stand up for themselves or bring up something where they think they are being treated unfairly they are met with a very sarcastic "oh the poor straight white man" response.

The best way to ruin the world is to keep trying to separate people, to keep trying to make them all feel that they are as different from each other as possible, to make them feel like those differences are their biggest quality and the only real thing they have to offer the world. People have been falling for this s*** forever and it's getting worse.

I'm a gay man but that's not all I am, I don't define my character or the value I bring to the world based on who I love but if I allowed social media to dictate how I feel about myself all I would do was walk around telling everyone that they have to accept me because I'm gay instead of trying to give them a reason to respect me as an individual first and foremost who just happens to be gay as well.

Trump is a racist but again I don't think most people who vote for him even care about race all that much they care about other things, it's easy to latch onto the racist thing and get angry because we all know it's wrong but if someone's main issue is banning abortion or gun rights (both things I disagree with the right on) I don't expect them to vote for a democrat because the person isn't outwardly racist.

Why would they give up the things that mean the most to them and give the power to a party that does it's best (on abortion at least) to stop them from getting their way? That's one reason why they keep winning and we keep losing, they don't apply the purity tests like we do, yeah the guy is a jerk but he's giving some of them what they want so why would we realistically expect them to give that up? He won't be POtuS forever but if he packs the Supreme Court and Biden refuses to add more judges those people will get their way for many more years to come.

Ignoring the constant racist tropes is racist. Trump isn't using subtle dog whistles that people might not pick up.

We're not talking about Mitt Romney making a little subtle comment in a semi-private event.

Not only is Trump racist, but he's pushing racist violence. He wants Proud Boys in the streets causing problems.

That's all true but if your support for him has NOTHING to do with racial issues how does that make the person voting for him racist? We need to stop putting people in groups the way we do it serves no real purpose.

Someone being ok with racism because it doesn't personally impact them makes them a s***ty person

"but some non white people are racist too" is not an argument because they are racist too and there are also s***ty people and nobody should be afraid to say so

I'm not willing to call someone racist because they vote for someone who does things (or says they will) that agree with their personal beliefs. People who are anti choice don't usually sit around thinking "I wish I could figure out a way to control a woman's reproductive process" most genuinely feel it's murder, I don't agree with them but I get it and I wouldn't expect them to vote for someone who says they will protect that process over someone who's appointing supreme court justices who likely will do something about it.

I am willing to call the racists who vote for Trump racist 100% there is no problem there but painting millions of people with one broad brush when you have no clue as to why they are voting for him makes you a part of the problem. You may as well be those stupid white kids who surrounded that old white woman who was eating outside and demanded she raise her fist in solidarity and started yelling white silence is violence, it's all a freaking show that requires no thought but makes people feel proud of themselves because they pretended to be more pissed off about it than actual victims of racism.

Trump is a disgusting human being but he's also one of two real choices for POTUS, if someone is anti choice, wants lower taxes and is anti gun control I would not expect them to vote for a Democrat just because he/she seems like a better person than Trump, if you aren't offering them anything they want why should they go against their personal interests? because it's "the right thing to do"? Maybe in a perfect world yeah but in a perfect world Republicans and Democrats wouldn't have f***ed things up so much for so long that it allowed a clown like Trump to be taken seriously to begin with.

Trump is racist I have no doubt about that but if someone supports him on another issue that has nothing to do with race it's totally unfair to call that voter a racist. We don't live in a world of black and white and it's total unfair to expect it from others when very few of us live our lives that way.
But you would support racism by supporting a "leader" that is racist.

My wife is pro-life. She's been super involved in her life, and up until 2016 she voted Republican because of it. She's been in marches and many public protests.

In 2016 though... she saw Trump for what he was. She realized that Trump wasn't right. No matter how strong her personal beliefs are (and they are strong), she knew voting Trump was wrong. It was simple for her, the guy who cheated on his pregnant wife with a porn star didn't share her views.

She has been ruthlessly attacked by the so called "pro life people" who were her former friends. She gets called a "baby killer" and a lot worse because she wouldn't vote for Trump. I've had her shut down her Facebook account because I really fear someone showing up to my house with a gun.

So... the "someone might see things differently than you" falls a little flat on me. Willful ignorance is no excuse for defending hatred.

These people want a race war in the streets. This isn't the twitter mob getting overly sensitive at someone. People are getting injured and killed, and it is only going to get worse.

I hate to tell people too, but Roe v Wade isn't getting overturned. The Republicans don't care about it, what they do is see the opportunity to use it to get votes. For many of them, religion is just a handy thing to manipulate people and hide behind.

But neither of us is ignorant enough to pretend people are begrudgingly supporting him. He has what? 90% approval ratings in the party? They aren't supporting him because there is no other choice. They love him.

Where are these imaginary people you believe in that "man I have to vote for him because of abortion but he is such a terrible person and I hate that I have to do it"? They don't exist.

I get that you are a big both sides person but you know better

Trump is never a "side". If people have conservative views, fine. As long as they don't support Trump. Many of us here actually see ourselves as "conservatives", but the labels don't really apply anymore.

You can't even put Trump on the political spectrum, because he's just a con man. You can't agree with nonsense and lies.

And I have always said we would be in better shape with the virus with anybody else as President including any Republican that ran.

We would have less deaths and what we have should be considered unacceptable to anyone decent. There are Republicans who have stood up for what is right so why give a pass to those who won't?

I think people are sheltered to the fact that in most first world countries, the Democrat party in the US would be the Conservative party.

Granted over the last 20years we have seen a lot of conservative parties move farther and farther right. Ronald Reagan would be a moderate to center left these days based on where the modern Republican Party sits on the liberal to conservative spectrum.

When even Texas is partaking in voter suppression, you know that they are terrified. Republican politicians have been the biggest threat our democracy for decades now.

I think there is an almost Fight Club aspect to The Proud Boys, except instead of brawling in run down houses, they feel like a fraternity that is also a strange cultural vanguard. Or the kind of conservatism that has nostalgia for the 1950s.

It reminds me a lot of the character in Falling Down.
