The Democrats have a tough fight on their hands. There's two groups of people who love him and vote:

-The idiots who have no information out of Fox News' little bubble.
-The smarter deplorables who know he's lying but simply don't care and support him anyway.

There was 20,000 of them in Orlando last night watching a campaign rally more than 12 months before an election.

Now, if the Democrats can find a candidate to energize the base and get a great turnout, I think they can win with Obama type numbers, but they need to find the candidate.

I have less faith in Biden just because there's already videos of him on the campaign trail looking old and tired. Charisma shouldn't matter, but it does. Hillary had no charisma and she lost.

This election is very much in doubt. Biden is in the middle, which is good for the centrists and the few remaining GOPers with common sense, but he may not energize anyone. Someone more left will excite the base, but maybe scare off some centrists.

The most alarming thing from 2016 was that voter turnout didn't increase at all. When you run into someone random on the street, do you ever wonder if they voted Trump or Hillary? Chances are they actually didn't vote at all.

Biden is way more liked than Hillary ever was but I can't imagine he will be so well liked when its all said and done.

Beto is probably the only one who I could see getting any kind of real excitement but at the same time you don't have to improve much on Hillary. Just not running a horrible campaign could be enough.

No matter who wins many many people will decide that both sides are the same and stay home. Or vote for whatever clown is running third party.

My worry about Biden is that he wears down over time. Much like what happened with Hillary (I think back to her bout of pneumonia during a critical part of the campaign). Trump has shown that a good old fashioned ground game in elections still matters.

I think that is a legit concern about Biden and anyone that old but the people that convinced themselves that she was dying were never going to vote for her anyway

Strike was approved last night but pulled back. I don't think Trump is looking for a war but the people around him are and he is easily influenced.

Fox and Friends was calling him weak this morning and we have a President who could actually be influenced that

Hell, he shut down the government because Ann Skeletor Coulter said the deal he agreed to wasn't tough enough on brown people. Imagine how tough you have to be to brown people who are also Mooslims to satisfy her.

I haven't really been paying too much attention to a lot of the Dem candidates, mainly because there are so many and it's still way early. Once the debates happen I'll probably focus more. That said, as I would have supported her last time if she had ran, Warren is my go to at this point. But, as I'm several weeks behind Bill Maher still, I'm just watching the June 7 episode with Andrew Yang, and I have to say he seems on the button for his positions and can speak with absolute clarity. I don't know how many times a candidate is being interviewed and is stumbling and bumbling over what they want to say, and give generic answers as to why they are running or their positions. Yang had none of that and was clear and concise.

She has done real well recently and has moved up the polls. I worry that she would look weak fighting Trump but she would probably be the best President of the bunch.

I'm liking Warren more and more (as with many I'm still in the early stages). I'm getting less and less confident in Biden. If the worst thing they have on Warren is the Native American thing, that's nothing. I think a woman like her can run and not repeat the Hillary mistakes. She's smart but so far seems relatable. She goes against being a socialist which is smart. Just avoid that word and go about making your policy.

She leans far enough left to hopefully tickle the far left, but hopefully shouldn't scare off the centrists.

I still say the key to 2020 isn't "beating" Trump, but winning over votes. Find all those people who voted for Obama and/or are tired of Trump, and give them a good reason to vote for you. Don't pull punches, but don't just run a "not Trump" campaign. Hit on the real issues that are important to people - healthcare, taxes, economy, deficit.

You have to speak to those centrists in places like Michigan. Don't attack Trump, but attack the GOP as a whole. Tax cuts on private planes can fit in the budget but healthcare is too expensive? There's the path to victory right there.

Yeah Biden is already screwing up and he's showing why he was never able to win the nomination in the past and I like him so I can only imagine what people who were already hesitant about him feel. I'd be happy with Warren, Sanders, Yang or even Gabbard (I know she's hated here but she's far more progressive than Biden) I like Mayor Pete but the guy doesn't really say anything, often times he talks a lot with no substance which may end up coming across as a bit too much like any run of the mill politician.

She was one of the dems who took it to him the hardest when he first got into office, she's not afraid to fight him at all but she is more of a policy/solutions person than someone who wants to get down in the mud.

Just from what I've seen from the town halls, Warren is my favorite but she was already my favorite going into it. Hopefully on the natioal stage at the debates she'll be able to show off the "I have a plan for that" side as well as the toughness needed to take on Trump.

I'm not really convinced the undecided types are going to be convinced by substance.

Honestly I think you need a little bit of both. You are running against Trump, but also running against voter apathy.

I think you have to provide people something to vote for as much as vote against Trump. Hillary's mistake was not giving people something to vote for.

I'd be hammering them on healthcare and education, and their tax cuts for the rich. You have to remind people why Republican economics doesn't work for them.

Yeah but lets be honest 2016 really boiled down to people just not liking Hillary. No policy would change that as Republicans spent decades convincing everyone that she was the devil and it worked.

The 40% of the GOP base was never going to like her, but the important voters are those who supported Obama in the past but didn't vote for her.

I voted Obama twice, but not for Hillary. I didn't like her, but that's not why I didn't vote for her. I didn't vote for her because she did nothing to tell me why I should vote for her. Was she an Obama centrist or a more left leaning candidate? Honestly I didn't really know. Most assumed she was in the middle, but she never ran on anything. She told me not to vote for Trump, and that worked. I didn't vote for him either. Granted I'm an odd case as I knew my vote means nothing in a deep blue state, but I know a lot of people felt the same.

You have to look at the swing vote and energizing your own base. The 40% on Trump's side are gone.

At this point, we don't need to be educating people about Trump. You have to hit him some, because of course that's how things work, but that can't be the main focus. Get people to vote for something.

It isn't easy, but you have to get people talking about the issues. You do that by dumbing it down and keeping it consistent. You can't let Trump pull us into immigration and other issues that work well for him, we have to talk about what's important to those Michigan voters.

Obviously she ran a bad campaign but the point is if Obama runs the same campaign you vote for him because he is likable
