The problem is that no matter how excited a voting base is, each one of their votes counts one time (unless you're reading this on Breitbart/Trump news, in which case numbers and facts mean nothing anyhow). Trump's got his 30-35% voter base frothing and probably about another 5-10% who would normally be eagerly Republican who are going to hold their nose and vote for him because of the Supreme Court.
He's not winning independents. There are more Democrats in this country than Republicans. If he really wanted to be President and was capable of actually following a strategy to do so, after the primaries he would have run to the middle, because his 30% base is more likely to vote for a Republican who claims to be the Anti-Christ to be the Dictator of the Christian United States of 'murka than they would be to vote for a Democrat, let alone a Democratic woman, let alone a Democratic woman who their propaganda outlets have been smearing as evil since before Fox News was a thing.
I don't know if he's incapable of following the strategy or simply pandering to his future TNN audience, or possibly if the first transitioned to the second. But there's simply no feasible way they seriously expected that they could take a voting pool that didn't even win for Romney, and then be as anti-women as they've been when the alternative is an actual humaniform of the female persuasion, and expect that to go well.
