The Football/Soccer Thread

I actually just looked at the side Moyes put out. Valencia, Welbeck, Young and Rooney. Sigh. It's clear he wanted hard workers out there but he needs to be reminded that he's not managing Everton anymore. You don't leave Robin van Persie on the bench for Ashley Young. United's best squad can beat City home or away, but what he put out was never going to win, or get a draw.

There was nothing wrong with Moyes team selection. It is the manner they played in that was the issue, and it isn;t the first team they have played this way. You also can't just say it is moyes, cause they played like that a few times under Ferguson in his last season.

Perise was injured...

Valencia is class

welbeck and young are s*** i agree lol

Is this a joke ? Welbeck is quality. Obviously he doesn't have the natural instinct like Van Persie in front of goal, but his ability on the ball is quality. As for Valencia. He hasn't been quality for ages. He takes ages to get the ball in the box now, and when he does the ball is often crap.

Never understood the Valencia signing. Never good enough for a top 6 team IMO.

valencia was shiet last season but he started this season off very well

Welbeck is absolutely USELESS in the final third, his finishing is league 2 level most of the time, he has no creative spark and he is weak as a stick. what he does well is run around alot and close people down, this is not a quality that is enough to be a man utd starter

Based on that City game, it is exactly what United need.

I honestly think Moyes need to drop Ferdinand and start Evans more. Nani needs to become a more regular player on that team sheet. We saw a few seasons back how good he was with an extended run. I also think Rooney should be put in Midfield and Van Persie and Hernandez should be the main striking duo.

Rooney was terrible in midfield last season when he played there. took risks normal midfielders dont take (or shouldnt take)

Nani should be played alot more, especially since we just gave him a new contract... i dont know why he didnt come on against city

Rooney with time could play midfield, but I feel like it's the cheap way out to solve United's midfield problems. He's best up front or behind a striker. Nani is technically as good as anyone in that squad, his problem has always been his form.

Welbeck's a funny one. He works hard for the team, he's very very quick and has good ball control. If can improve his finishing and get into the box more he could be a world class striker.

I want him behind the strikers with free roaming license.

I want more of a 4.3.1.2 formation. Put Carrick in the center of the 3 and have him hold back. Put any combo of Fellani, Kagawa, cleverly, Valencia, Nani, or Young on either side. If Rooney is injured or not playing well you can move fellani up. I feel this would also serve them better in the champions league also.

Tim Cahill vs. Drake at the fifa launch party:

as a red bulls fan good to see so many players made it to support timmy.

Cristiano Ronaldo has written to the Miami police this week to urge them to drop charges against a teenager who hugged him in pre-season.

Ronald Gjorka, a 20-year-old Real Madrid fan, stormed on to the pitch during their match with Chelsea in America over the summer – and promptly cuddled star man Ronaldo.

The long embrace was ended when police dragged away Gjorka and arrested him, before he was later charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct.

However, with the youngster preparing to get removed from college and sent back to his native Albania if convicted, Ronaldo has stepped in to help.

The Portuguese forward penned a letter to the authorities this week urging them to drop the case against Gjorka, allowing him to stay in the US.

‘I understand your position and the importance of enforcing rules and law,’ the letter read.

‘However, I respectfully request that you and your office reconsider this decision and dismiss the two criminal charges this young man faces.’

It’s not clear whether the letter will be successful in getting Gjorka off the hook, but Ronaldo going that extra mile to help out the boy is certainly heart-warming.

Good on Ronaldo for that. I understand slapping the guy with a fine or something but to get kicked out of not only college but also the country? Come on now.

Also Manchester City luolz

Edit: Man U even bigger luolz

Looking forward to motd later. Some good games today. The panel on soccer saturday were raving about west broms first goal.

it was rio's mistake, nowthing to rave about. they always overrate s***.

Ah ok. Frigging hate it when the panel do that. Just settling down now to watch the Arsenal Swansea match. Hopefull this will be a good game.

Bloody hell both Manchester clubs lost so now just need Swansea to do the job and its a good weekend for Spurs.

Redbulls might get Supporter Shields this season unless Sounders can get more points on the table.

United v West Brom - West Brom were fantastic IMO and deserved to win the game. Ferdinand was the big culprit for United though. Several occasions he was guilt of poor defending and gave West Brom very good chances on goal.

Spurs v Chelsea - Very spikey game.

Arsenal v Swansea - was actually a disappointing game considering the 2 very good footballing teams on show. Swansea did well though to keep Ozil very quiet. Arsenal really need to get some of their injured players back, but the young lad Gnarby was the standout. Really enthusiastic attitude and a lovely little goal too.

Fulham v Cardiff - Cardiff were unlucky not to be 3-4 goals up with in the first 45 minutes, but the game produced two fantastic goals. One by Bryan Ruiz, and the other by Cardiff's young Jordan munch.

Poor defending for the Chelsea goal and don't like Jan going down like he did but at the same time Torres could have gone for the nails to the face.
But Sigs could have won it with a blinder right at the end.

Still the team is coming along well.

where is Lamela? injured i am guessing? if so when is he back. i was looking forward to seeing how he does

He played the other day. Think he is still adjusting to England.

Awesome I knew more about Arsenal than someone from the UK.

Edit: Nevermind I just noticed his first tweet about him was last last weekend. I thought it was from Saturday. Either way I'll take the fake victory.
