"The philosophy behind the game is to provide an accessible, high quality, social and customizable golf experience with minimal to zero loading times."

It uses the analog swing mechanic, not the 3-click mechanic.

Includes a course creator. You can produce a procedurally generated course, which you can then tweak to your liking. You can share and play it with others online. You can also create customized tournaments and tours, which can also be shared.

I'm looking forward to it. I am not a golfer in real life, but I've enjoyed playing a few Tiger Woods games for the relaxing atmosphere and the sense of progression. I'm not a serious player, just casual.

Here's a trailer:

I'm interested in this. I'm not too big into the real sport so not having real players and courses doesn't matter to me. I do enjoy golf games however and this looks like it could be a lot of fun. I think with the course creator, all the popular courses are going to be recreated anyway.

Driving range and mini golf is fun but don't care much for the real deal. I'll keep an eye on this as it may be fun MP game.

I'm mainly into HotShots Golf - it's a very good golf game, with all the shebang Tiger Woods and all those serious games have - but also adds alot of funny cartoonish stuff - if you can imagine it.. :)
i.e. you can shoot high up in the mountain, and see a ball roll a hundred yards extra downhill - or shoot out in the parking lot and see the ball bounce much farther on pavement instead of grass, or you can buy a umbrella as a golf-club, or watch your caddie take off in a wiley-coyote run when you shoot, and see him/her overtake the balll, and stand waiting for the ball when it lands. :)
Butt, yeah.. Loadtimes for that on PS3 were horrendous.. :-/

This seems abit more serious - but the main thing wich makes it seem to stick out from games like Tiger Woods - for me, is the golf course-generator - you can create your own golf courses, and share them.. :)

EA did some very obnoxious microtransactions scheme for the Tiger Woods games, last generation.
While playing in the middle of the main campaign on the 60$ disc - your game were interrupted - requestiong you to download microtransactioned golf-courses, for the complete tour experience - or you might skip those courses on the tour in the campaign - so a new competitor might be a godsend for golf-game fans.. :)

Yeah, there hasn't been anything for serious golfers since Links on the Xbox (which I heard was good, though I never played it). Hot Shots Golf looks okay, but I prefer the calm, natural environments to the goofy/cartooney approach.

This is a small development team, so I don't think they'll be delivering something AAA. It looks a bit plain right now, but they've said they plan to continue to add to it, after release. They seem very open to fan feedback.

I'm happy to see they went with the Tiger-style analog swing, rather than the artificial three-click system, which I never cared for. And that course generator could be a real game-extender.

They said it's coming soon and coming Spring 2004, so it ought to be out in the next couple months.

Hot shots is usually my thing, but I could atleast give this a try. Tiger has felt bad for me for a long time.

Tiger Woods is pretty bad. I would love EA to drop the name and return to the megadrive glory days of PGA tour.

This Golf club sounds good, will keep an eye on it.

I have wanted realistic compeittive mini-golf for a long time..... there is a difference with goofy and mini golf though. I haven't found a game that had the physics down to bring that at all though. Fast moving and slopes that react with a lot of movement like you get in the real stuff. Hope to get that eventually, I'd be all over it.

They opened an early access "beta" on Steam yesterday. Played it a bit last night and they copied much from the Tiger Woods gameplay aspect (HB Studios helped EA with porting their TW game in the past) so it's very familiar if you've played that game. There is no h2h play rather you can play against a friends ghost. The features are minimal but the crowning achievement is the course generator. Overall the game is pretty plain jane in graphics and overall features but there is a 3 year plan to continue to add and improve. Early access cost $29.97 cheap enough to fufill a hardcore golfer's itch but easily avoidable at this time if golfing is just a passing fancy. Supposedly they will be releasing for PS4 and X1 this Summer.

They just submitted the game to MS and Sony for approval. "The game appears to only be a few weeks from launch." Probably a bit longer than that, since they'll have to fix whatever problems are found, but still, it ought to be out shortly.

Here are some quotes from a recent preview.

"I had a chance to go hands on with the game at E3 and I have to say I came away extremely impressed.... Let’s just say, this is the golf game we have all been looking for. A game that resembles Links should definitely be something folks can get excited about.

"The Golf Club is pure golf and puts everyone on the same level playing field. There are no power ups and upgrades to your golfers or your clubs. Everyone will play the course with the same type of golfer, clubs and balls. If you score low then you earned it legitimately and if you score high once again it’s due to your skill and ability as a gamer. This is great news for any golf simulation fan. Heck, this is fantastic news and if you cannot tell by now I am extremely excited for this game.

"The game uses the right analog stick for swinging which feels just right. Sorry but there is no 3 click swinging in this game. You’ll have to be spot with your backswing and forward swing to hit the perfect shot. But as with real golf, just because you hit a perfect shot does not mean the ball will land exactly where you think it should. As with real life the landing zone for the ball is somewhat random and will be affected by wind, slope, your swing, etc. You’ll also have to take into account your general landing zone and what hazards you may encounter. This is pure golf at its best. There are no arrows showing you where you are hitting it, etc. Again, this is pure golf.

"Speaking of user generated courses, this is an unbelievable option. You’ll be able to play hundreds of courses for free. Yes, all user generated courses can be downloaded and played.

"I cannot express how excited I am for this game and I literally could say that over and over. I believe the guys at HB Studios got that impression immediately and I truly didn’t want to stop playing it. This is the game I have been waiting to come along for a very long time."

really excited for this.

Yeah, I've never played a "real" golf game before, only Tiger Woods. I'll have to make the adjustment. I owned an Xbox, but I wasn't into virtual golf back when Links was out. I remember a lot of people liked it and were disappointed that it didn't get a sequel. This looks like a successor of sorts.

I've never liked the three-click swing mechanic, so I'm glad this game uses the TW method. I've never liked the cartooney golf games (Hot Shots, etc.), so I'm glad they are taking the realistic approach. I like the fact that it all depends on your skills, too (at least, I think I like that) -- no skill upgrades, everyone has the same clubs and attributes. And I love the course creator, along with the free downloads of user-created courses. That's pretty cool.

This game may be fun (the important part) but I would be lying if I said the visuals were great.
It looks like Links on the original Xbox.

Yeah, it's not the greatest looking game. It looks fine to me, but it's not going to win any awards. The development team is rather small. They say they plan to add to and improve the game, after release.

Yeah when I played Tiger I would turn off all the power boost and spin and up the difficulty. Made the game more realistic and fun.

Could care less about graphics. If the gameplay is fun and people make some interesting courses this should be good.

Wish this was coming to the 360. Will have to wait till i get a One to check it out :(

Woooooo this should be nice. Loved the PGA Tour Tiger Woods games. Hopefully the physics on this would be awesome too

If it's good and plays smooth I'm interested. I'm not a golf nut, so I don't care one bit at fake players and courses.

As mentioned I have been playing the early release on PC...it's "ok" - in some ways rewarding without being too frustrating, in other ways lacking much flair and features. The devs claim the release is only the start and they will be adding features along the way. I don't expect this to be a full featured title like the EA SPORTS series - it's a digital-only title and likely to be sold under $40. The course creator does bring something new to the table but frankly from the coures that have been made on the PC you have 1,000+ ridiculously idiotic courses, another 1,000+ attempts at a good course done by users who don't have a clue how to properly design a course, another 1,000+ look-a-like courses, and a dozen or so really well-made nice design courses. Sorting it all still needs work and I'm sure over time the cream will rise to the top and there could be a fine golf community formed with continued developer support and features added.

What I'm saying is I think anyone other than the hardcore golf player or people with aspirations for course creation will find this to be something really fun out of the gate. For the casual or impatient you may want to wait a bit and see how the chips fall next spring when EA SPORTS brings out their top-down redesigned game running off the Frostbyte engine.

Perfect Parallel (led by some famous Links era golf course designers) is also working on a golf game that is being hinted at coming to consoles along with PC. It may be a bit early still in development but it has a great pedigree of developers and the early builds look amazing.

Thanks for the impressions. My enthusiasm is cooled.

I am glad there are no unlocks and all that. Just trying to be a golf sim. If it is tough like real golf and you win by having the lowest score and all your shots are on an even playing field this is exactly what the doctor ordered.
