So I watched the movie early this morning and walked away with more questions than answers. The filmmaker did a great job of sucking you in wondering where it was going and I felt I needed to be glued to the set continually lest I miss anything that ties things together. He did a great job of telling a story without much dialogue though I did have issues when there was dialog not sure if I needed to be hearing what they were saying or not...I found myself continually adjusting the volume up/down as a result.

In the end, the movie was just a bit too artsy for my personal tastes though I can appreciate the depths and discussion presented by the effort. I do enjoy films that aren't the predictable cookie cutter that Hollywood spits out, but for me this was a little too vague that didn't engage me enough to desire to explore further. No knocks against those who do, just not my cup of tea.

There is something inherently evil about being able to eavesdrop into other peoples lives as succinctly as the Sampler is able to do.
We see him viewing people at their worst and he is portrayed as enjoying it.
While I may buy that the Sampler himself is not inherently evil, his actions and motives in this movie most certainly are.

Oh most definitely. It ties into the whole big brother or just unwittingly being watched aspect. No harm my be intended by the parties doing the surveillance and may be even done in the name of the greater good, it's the means by which it is done that is revolting. The Sampler starts off innocently enough, passively sampling, however, it goes way past the moral grey area when he starts having a "hands on" approach to sampling. He's like an addict, starts out in control at first and then has to go to greater and greater lengths to get his fix, whether it be moral or amoral means.

Watched the show last night, I don't really keep up with new music anymore but I'm a fan a music so I decided to watch to see what was new (to me) for 2013. Here's a few random thoughts...

* Almost turned off the show early on as it had a real dark vibe to it. That Lorde girl was gruesome and Katy Perry acting a pole stripper witch was disturbing.

* Taylor Swift looked like a woman as opposed to a teeny bopper. Hot!

* Never heard of the Imagine Dragons before and that performance was the one that made me want to check out their CD. Powerful music.

* Pink is an inspiring performer and the circus may be calling.

* Daft Punk!!! 'nuff said.

* Did Madonna just roll out of bed? Sumptin wrong there.

* Paul still got it, Ringo never had it.

* Metallic and classic pianist works, who'd da thunk it? Rock on!

* Collaboration all star music jams rarely come off good but I enjoyed the Nine Inch Nails/QOTSA/Lindsey Buckingham performance.

Overall a couple bright spots noted but mostly just another show to soon be forgotten.

Sorry you lost me when you used the words Katy Perry/stripper and disturbing in the same sentence.

Lorde's performance is fine from what I've seen. I'm still peeved that she had to call herself Lorde. There is only one true Lordi!!!!

I found this pretty amazing. Very rare to see someone really turn it around in my opinion from boos to honest belly laughs. Bill Burr is a comedy god!

That does look good. It must be based on older cartoon movie called "Sleeping Beauty."

It's the exact same material, yes. It's Disney doing their version of Wicked you could say.

Admittedly, I was bit disappointed with Snow White & The Huntsman because it doesn't focus on the 7 dwarfs as much as I like to see. The original cartoon movie, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, is awesome and it fills with a lot of good songs and humors in it. I guess Disney was trying to make The Huntsman a bit more serious-tone in it. I suspect they probably will do same with Disney's Maleficent about serious tone in it. I have also heard that they're planning to make Peter Pan the live-action movie comin' out next year. I'm looking forward to it.

Disney had nothing to do with Snow White and the Huntsman.

Holy smurfy. You're right. I didn't realize that myself until I looked at the Blu-Ray version, lol. Well, forget what I said about Disney. Wasn't Universal company tried to make the movie more realistic and is based on the story of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs movie? Because they're quite similar to each other a lot.

Snow White is a Brother's Grim story. It was written 80 years before Disney made Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Yeah, this isn't related to Snow White at all unless they fit some weird Kingdom Hearts-esque reference in there. Although this is movie is definitely trying to cash in on the "epic genre" of films.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, as much as I love just about everything Pixar has done, I'm not sure how I feel bout them doing a Star Wars movie. I would love to be happily surprised though.

I'm really excited for the movie but I'm sad to hear it's PG-13. I thought that was one of the main reasons why hunger games sucked balls too. PG-13 is just not good enough in movies like these.
Even in that trailer they use some lame ass camera tricks to show him getting blown up by the car explosion. Why? because getting shot over and over is too much for pg-13

Why a movie of the month club?
Outside of video games movies seems to be the biggest medium we have in common as a community. Rather than quick reviews I felt it would be a fun change of pace to watch films and discuss them on a more detailed level.

What should be discussed in the thread?
Everything should be discussed but make each post worthwhile. We will discuss the dialogue, the acting, the cinematography, comparisons to other films, etc. Everything about the movie should, and hopefully will, be discussed.

Think essay when making a post in this thread.

This isn't necessarily a review thread. You can obviously post your impressions of the film but don't make it the largest part of your post.

Posts that add nothing to the discussion or veer off topic into other subjects will be removed.

How will movies be chosen?
Since I see a lot of movies my first criteria is it something I haven't seen? I look at movies recommended to me on various movie sites. I have a large to watch list on IMDB that I frequently look at, update and complete films from. I then choose films that I feel will garner vast discussions and promote back and forth dialogue between forum members.

The films won't always be films I haven't seen or haven't seen in a while. I will most definitely choose movies that are main stream that many have seen but feel the our film discussion community would enjoy discussing. I will probably alternate each month between movies I haven't seen and movies that will encourage a great discussion amongst us. The movies will be domestic, foreign, action, dramatic... Everything.

While I will try to select movies that are widely available, sometimes that's not possible as with the case of Upstream Color.

Hmmm.....doesn't look as though this is out in the UK. All I can see are imports. So, it looks like I will not be taking part.
