I downloaded Halo 3 this weekend (the free games with gold promo) and played it all weekend long, wow is it a refresher.
Few things I noticed right off the bat:
1. Game feels so slow in comparison to Reach and H4, with no sprint, it feels slow, but after a while you get used to it once again
2. Shooting isn't hit scan like Reach and H4, so lag and whoever is hosting the game plays a much larger role in your shots connecting
3. Maps are 10x better than Reach and H4, probably due to the game not having the armor abilities
4. You can tell Call of Duty has had a huge effect on the Halo franchise moving past Halo 3. It started with the bubble shield, power drainer, and re-generation green thingy, and it just expanded more in Reach and Halo 4.
I think Halo 3, despite my extreme hatred for the game in the past, is a huge refresher because the last Halo game that still has core Halo gameplay, fighting for powerups and power weapons.
I hope Halo 5 or whatever it'll be called will go back to this. Maybe if there's a spike in Halo 3 population it will give 343 some insight.
