Official Thread The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (Wii U/Switch)

Very nice. I suppose the smart thing to do is to wait for the NX version.

Is there a release date/window?

I've never played all the way through a single Zelda game in my life (which is crazy considering I've been around for all of them), but I definitely want to try this.

I am exactly the same.

Except I might get Link Between Worlds before this releases, so...

Beautiful. From the treehouse play-through it looks like a evolution of Zelda games. Can't wait.

After watching the trailer, I take back what I said yesterday. It looks great. The demo/presentation was awful. It didn't showcase the game and actually made it look horrible. It lacked any detail. Seeing the trailer, it has a lot of detail. While it may not be the art direction I wanted, I wanted the trailer from a few years back, I'm ok with it.

I'm happy all of the diehard fans are getting this game. It looks like it will be amazing.

Now, was the trailer done on WiiU or NX?

Yeah game looks incredible. Not sure if everyone watched the several hours of gameplay, but they did eventually get into some cooler stuff besides just being on the plateau. They went into a couple Shrines which have puzzles and give Link cool powers.

The fact that the game is going more of an RPG route with weapons and items having stats has me pumped.

For sure. The whole, stealing weapons from enemies you defeat and weapons degrading thing is pretty cool too. I would be a little bummed if the Master Sword can degrade though.

But I'm sure you can upgrade the Master Sword. So it balances out. Besides I don't think Nintendo would allow the sword to break and be unusable.

Do we have a release date...? I'll pick up a refurbed Wii U just for this, since according to Nintendo it'll be exactly the same game on NX.

Look at the size of this map.

Wait, sorry, that's not the full thing... this is:

this game looks so good. I am going to have to buy an NX for this.

This game looks better than the girl in my avatar. I can't wait.

I'm almost thinking the same. It seems ridiculous to buy a system to play one game. But this is the definition of a system seller.

That can't be true. They must be talking about basic gameplay features, not the visuals.

It's true. Same experience. Different visuals.

Yes. I was saying it's inaccurate (imo) to call the Wii U version "exactly the same game" as the NX version, because one version will look okay/passable, and the other will look a lot better. The NX game will be a different visual experience, and in that sense a qualitatively different game.

But I get what the person was meaning -- that the basic gameplay elements, level design, etc., are exactly the same between the two versions. That makes sense. In fact, I'd take that for granted.

Based on the bit I saw of gameplay footage, I'd say the trailer is NX footage. The big give away is the draw distance on the grass. It looks great in the trailer, but it was quite noticeable draw in on the gameplay demo.

Maybe they are just mis-interpreting the quote...?

  1. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will Be The Same Experience on NX
By Dalton Cooper | 4 days ago

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma claims that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild experience will be the same on Wii U and Nintendo NX.
Nintendo brought The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to E3 2016 in a big way, dedicating most of its E3 Treehouse presentation to the game. Series producer Eiji Aonuma answered a lot of questions about the upcoming title during the event, and in the process revealed to fans that the game will be the same experience regardless of if one plays it on the Wii U or the Nintendo NX.

It is assumed that the NX will boast far greater graphical capabilities than the Wii U, but even so, fans shouldn’t expect the NX version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to have improved visuals. It also doesn’t appear as though the game will sport any extra features in the NX version, so Wii U owners don’t have to feel like they’re missing out by picking up the current-gen version of the game instead.

While the Nintendo NX is still very much a mystery, Aonuma’s comments about the new Zelda may offer hints as to what to expect from the console. For example, players will be able to play through the game with the GamePad or the Wii U Pro Controller. The fact that Breath of the Wild is compatible with the Pro Controller may be an indication that the NX will use a more traditional controller than the last two Nintendo consoles. Otherwise it would be strange for Nintendo to create a completely separate control scheme just for the people that happen to own a Pro Controller on Wii U.

If the NX does use a traditional controller, it would stand at odds with previous speculation about the device. Some Nintendo controller patents seem to suggest that the NX controller will sport an oval-shaped touchscreen, and that it will even be usable away from the console itself. Ultimately, we won’t know for sure how Nintendo is designing the NX controller until the company is ready to talk about the device, but such an unveiling should take place within the next few months.

Nintendo’s choice to keep the Wii U and NX versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildthe same experience will likely please the company’s loyal fans. There are some that purchased a Wii U for the express purpose of playing Zelda, so it’s nice that they won’t have to feel like they’re missing out on anything by not buying the new Nintendo console right away.

That wouldn't make sense. If the NX version isn't significantly better, visually, then it no longer becomes a system seller. Who needs an NX, if Zelda looks exactly the same on the Wii U?

And why would they strip down their most anticipated game in years, just to ensure that Wii U owners (all 5 of them) aren't upset?

I would have to hear the producer's comments in context. I'm assuming he's just talking about gameplay, etc., not visuals. It is the writer here, after all, and not the producer, who is saying that "fans shouldn't expect improved visuals." Did the producer specifically address visual differences between the versions? Or is that just the writer's extrapolation?

Because fans certainly do seem to expect improved visuals. In fact, if they don't get them, I'm assuming there will be outrage over the NX version being held back.
