My friend who is a film critic in Hong Kong and loves action and especially martial art movies said it was a big mess and the action was framed and shot terribly. I am disappointed as was really looking forward to this.

The action is shockingly mediocre. The sequels sucked but at least they had some cool action.

It isn't great. It is a fary cry from the fantastic first movie.
Maybe they didn’t or couldn’t use the original stunt-coordinators/directors since they’re working on John Wick?
The OG Matrix trilogy was Yuen Woo Ping and his team, (who I have worked with before and they are awesome)
I just looked up this new movie and actually the stunt coordinator and his team is solid. if they did produce some great stunt viz, and they had good choreography, shot and edited well and it came out terrible then they were too many cooks in the kitchen in the final process.
YWP and his team did the choreography, camera angles and edit, IF any of these are done different from the original vision, they could be a disaster.
Chad and Dave who worked on the OG Matrix with YWP and his team, learnt this style of filmmaking from the Hong Kong stunt crew, then went onto found 8711 action design, then onto directing John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 etc
I’ve said this before but I have worked on film productions where they loved my stunt viz, but the director, about 3 producers, cameraman, editor, stunt coordinator, actors etc all get involved and throw in their 50c (37p UK)
so then like I stated above, it turns into a train wreck as that angle, edit they originally liked doesn’t work as a wide master with 15 seconds of action instead of being spilt into 3 shots of diff angles to make it more dynamic and have more energy.

tbh I just take the money now, been doing this for 28 years, and unless I make my own movie, 99% of the time it will nearly always get changed, dumbed down, butchered, modified or cut completely.
i don’t take it personal now, just open my phone, check my bank balance and happy I’m still getting dead presidents
(that’s for you Americans it’s actually UK money but tbh most of it is American movie companies so I guess it’s right!)

The first one was the only good movie they made
This one definitely isn't a catastrophe but its very forgettable.
Wow tbh 100% happy that the action turned out like I wanted, then none
the black mirror episode striking vipers came close but they got the actors to do too much of the action themselves instead of letting the stunt performers do it and use face replacement etc
maybe the flash movie where I designed fights for a certain women of steel and a man bat hopefully will turn out good but I ain’t holding my breath! Like I said always too many cooks in the kitchen.
Hopefully soon one day I’ll get my freedom and do my own thing……….

i really don’t know what to make of it. Wasn’t sure about it at the start, then it grew on me a little and finally it just left me a little confused. I don’t think I hated it but I’m not sure I liked it either. I think I did? Maybe?

I feel like they left it open for a new series or other movies, probably without Neo and Trinity. I don't know. I went in with little expectations and it was fine for me. I got to see more of the Matrix world and I left it like that. I really didn't think that much more about it and don't care to research or see videos of what everything meant. It doesn't mean that much to me.
