Every year at TeamXbox I would create a thread on the day Big died, March 9th. Well, here wee are again. Big was a major influence on me and the reason I got into DJing. I was always a fan of rap and hip hop, but, when I heard Big for the first time, it was different. I sat there and listened to Ready to Die for hours straight that first day. I was seeing everything he was rapping about right in front of me. It was like watching a movie. Since that first day I was a fan for life.

The day he died was one I'll never forget. I was asleep in bed after being out DJing the night before. My mom had knocked on my door and said, "That rapper guy you liked, Biggie, he was killed last night." I thought she had to be lying. I hopped on AOL and immediately began to cry. It was a kick to the stomach. It was awful. I just couldn't believe it. It just downright sucked.

Well, it's been 17 years since Big died and I still listen to his music getting the same feelings I did the first time I heard each track. The music world lost one of its great talents on the day of Big's death. Losing Pac and Big within a year was devastating to the hip hop world it it has never been the same.

There will only be one Big.....

My favorite Big track of all time.....

If you've never seen Notorious, see it. It's a really good film and Woolard did a great and commendable job as Big.

Big ripping it on the streets of Brooklyn.

These were the times for these two. Really unfortunate it went south.

Probably Big's best unpublished track. He just ripped it over all the West Coast iconic beats.

He certainly had a way with words.

I'm not really a huge rap fan, but I have seen the movie and it was good.

I'm a middle aged white guy who grew up in some mild-mannered suburbs, listening to the polar opposite type of music (e.g., progressive rock, early REM). I've never liked rap, but I completely understand the strong emotional connection to music we grow up with. When I listen to the old stuff, it takes me right back there.

Dude had skills.

Top 5 rappers. He had style, content, delivery, structure, a cool voice and an almost awkward way of delivering some of his lines that kept (keep) you listening wondering where he's going to take the rhyme scheme next.

"My slow flow's remarka-ble".

I had the same feeling the first time i listened to Kanye West. I know people like to hate on Kanye for whatever reason but as someone who doesn't really care for rap overall i love his music. Same deal with Eminem.

Never really got into Biggie's music and the whole rap scene besides that but 2Pac was all right. I have some of his CDs and other rappers CDs that i bought when i was younger. They had a couple decent songs i could get into.

The closest I get to rap regularly is Linkin Park.

Easily my favorite rapper. Great lyrics and flow. Ready to Die, nuff said. "Things done changed" "Respect" a couple of my favs.

Can't count the number of times I've thrown Juicy or Hypnotize on after overcoming some s*** and feeling good. Been meaning to do a portrait of him. J-Dilla is another incredible talent gone far too soon, I always come back to Donuts.

Wish we could have gotten a BIG album with all DJ Premier production. Unbelievable, Kick In The Door, 10 Crack Commandments Biggie always killed those Preemo beats.

But we ain't singing,
We bringing drama
f*** you and your mother f***ing mama.
We're gonna kill all you mother f***ers.
Now when I came out, I told you it was just about biggie.
Then everybody had to open their mouth with a mother f***ing opinion
Well this is how we gonna' do this:
f*** Mobb Deep,
f*** Biggie,
f*** Bad Boy as a staff, record label, and as a mother f***ing crew.
And if you want to be down with Bad Boy,
Then f*** you too.
Chino XL, f*** you too.
All you mother f***ers,
f*** you too.
(take money, take money)
All of y'all mother f***ers,
f*** you, die slow motherf***er.
My four four (.44 magnum) make sure all your kids don't grow.
You motherf***ers can't be us or see us.
We mother f***in' Thug Life riders.
West Side till' we die.

Yup, poetry is what i think of when I hear this

I could just see people at a poetry club snapping along to this.

Who the f*** is this, pagin' me at 5:46 in the mornin' crack a dawnin' now I'm yawnin', wipe the cold out my eye see who's this pagin' me and why?

As much as I enjoyed him, the tribute videos for him were just weird and funny looking. The more I grow up, the more they come across as pandering and trying to wring money out of his death.

The only good video after he dies was Sky's The Limit.
