The Official: Automotive enthusiast thread

The new Impala is really nice too. Finally GM is making some good looking cars. They've always had great powertrains, but their designs were just to vanilla.

yeah I agree, my neighbor has the '14 model top of the line LTZ model with all the amenities and compared to my dad's car, the older one is very boring, FAST, but boring.

Ugh here we go...time to dig into my photo collection.

First vehicle was a 2003 Nissan Frontier, heavily modded.

Traded it in for a 2007 Dodge Ram. Didnt do much to it though. (2WD Hemi)

Needed 4WD so I picked up an 84 Toyota Pickup and making a truggy with it now. 6.5" leaf lift, propane conversion, hysteer, 5.29 gears, Have a set of 37" Wrangler MTRs for it (military take offs) with recentered double bead lock hummer wheels. Only thing left is to install the double case from Marlin Crawler (4.9 gears in the rear case), driveshafts and make a bed for it. 26k original miles on the power train.

Traded the Dodge in back in February for a 2013 Subaru BRZ. Added just a axleback exhaust from Nameless. Waiting for them to release the headers for this car before doing the rest of the system.

They really are nice cars. Its not going to beat much racing light to light but I can throw it into any corner and not even think about it. They engines will make stupid amounts of power though. Crawford built an engine with 450HP and 500 ft*lbs of toruqe. More than double the HP and trippled the torque.

Their not made for straight line performance :) I like auto crossing over the 1/4 mile myself, that's whatI have my Mustang modded for. Anywho "fast" in an automobile is subjective. Like your BRZ

They should have made a STI version for it, i dont see why they couldn't add a turbo model.

Im sure they eventually will. Its a business model, why show all your cards in the first few years or invest in developing a STi version if it wasnt a tested model yet?

Test drove one of these for a daily driver. Got nearly 100mpg out of it over the weekend. It's plug-inlug in hybrid and there are free charge stations all around my house so I won't be spending money on electricity or much gas.

It's also 4x4 and has a 100k warranty. I know a guy that has one and has used only 1 tank of gas since December. That's what I love about it, you don't have to worry about scrambling to find a charge station, it has a gas motor too that also works as a generator.

The real benefit is using free quick charge stations though, that's where the savings come in. Decently quick to off the line too but its not fast overall.

That's awesome performance.

I am not a fan of Mitsubishi, but that is AMAZING for an SUV, especially that size. That is like Prius/Volt/Bolt/Leaf MPG isn't it? Where I live in Madison, WI, I have never seen any charging stations other than a couple for Tesla, which are at the mall.

Yep, it was the best selling SUV in Europe for 4 years probably for that reason. It just came over to North America this year. Reliably is also another factor, it's very high.

The MPG numbers are really based on driving style. The Outlander only has a 22-28 miles on pure electric range, but it has regen braking that recharges the battery even when the gas engine is running. Another driving mode is assisted battery+gas driving(basically the gas engine kicks in only during hard acceleration.)
On the highway, it is not as good, on the pure gas engine with no help from the battery I averaged 36mpg for a long stretch running 72mph on cruise control. I depleted the battery completely on purpose without any battery assistance, purely for testing, I would never do that in real life.

Not bad, but the EV cars can do better. This one just has so many advantages over those for me, room being the primary one. But if you can keep your commutes under 30 miles per day OR you have charging stations you should easily be able to pull off 80+ mpg no problem. There's a guy on the Outlander forum that posted yesterday that's getting 968mpg. Literally fvck gas.
It also as a 120v outlet in the pack for camping. If you have a full tank of gas, it will power the outlet for up to a week because its also a generator.

It's definitely the most affordable, economical 4x4 SUV I've ever driven. It's not bad looking in person either. Also, in addition to the massive 100k warranty, you also get a $5k EV tax rebate(not counting additional state incentives.) The one I test drove was $31k and fairly loaded brand new.

As for the charging stations, you might be surprised. I had only seen one in my area, but I did a search and there were six within a 50-mile radius. You can also charge at home and I think that comes out to around $0.16 per gallon during non peak hours. The car has an app that you can heat up or cool the car from inside or set charging times for lowcost.

I've never seen a charging station in my entire life. Even through the dozen or so states I've been through, not a single one.

There's a ton of charging stations around me. A couple of Tesla stations, and they built a new parking garage in my town that that one of the first floor walls is all electric chargers.

The public chargers are not free though

Five out of six where I live are 100% free. I actually used three of them all free. They're at car dealerships and they consider letting you use their stations a form of advertising for them. The one next to my house had like 5 different types of EV vehicles at a BMW dealership, none of them were BMWs.

Not even the Telsa ones? I can also use the Telsa ones but I need an adaptor.

This is my current car. I took these photos shortly after I bought it in WInter of 2016/2017.

After I bought it I watch tonnes of detailing video, buy a bunch of details items, & NEVER use it. LOL. Maybe I will start doing some detailing the coming weeks.

It is a BMW M135xi model. It has 320hp from a 3.0 Turbocharge engine. Its a significant upgrade from my old Audi A3 front wheel 150hp model, in both interior, performance & stability at high speed. I am not a crazy Autobahn racer, but the pickup & stability at higher speed is very noticeable.

Finally due for servicing after over 1.5 years of ownership, & hope it doesn't blow a big pocket in my wallet. I go to official BMW affiliated workshop even if its a bit more expensive. My philosophy is simple, if you are willing to pay for a decent car, do not be cheap on maintenance.

Forgot I posted in this thread. Since my Mitsubishi I've gotten a 2013 Infiniti G37x. All wheel drive in winter is great and has more HP than the eclipse GT. I went automatic since it's just easier with the kid in the back sometimes. Damn responsibilities! Would love to get a Q series 2 door manual but oh well. Maybe a 2nd car is in my future one day.

Well my wife has killed my dream of being a Corvette owner. She noticed me watching a bunch of corvette videos on YouTube and decided to tell me how impractical it was and over expensive and blah blah blah. So I reluctantly agreed and did what any reasonable man would do...
I went out and traded in my older model Camaro for a new one. :bang::bang:
