In my first couple matches I got a top 5 finish. I noticed when you get into a firefight it starts running like s*** sometimes. First night I played a buddy and I was in the top 6 and soon as we engaged this player it started running like s*** and would not let us kill them.

I’m glad you love the game, but stop acting like people are not allowed to critique the game. You sound like a fanboy in this thread. Calm down.

No you calm down, lol!

I definitely think we're allowed to critique, but after 45 hours of playing on XBox One, and watching a few XBox One videos on youtube, I have yet to run into what you're describing. Have you tried checking your internet connection because I think something could be amiss?

Also, nice to see that you caught the bug!

A fanboy? If you entertain yourself by listening to the PUBG vs Fortnite debates, you'll see optimization is frequently listed as one of Fortnites strengths. Plus the XBox One video provided is very representative of how the game runs on console.

If a PC gamer said it ran like garbage on console, I could understand where he/she's coming from as they're used to 60+fps gaming. However if you're a console gamer and you think a fairly steady 30fps is garbage, I question why you're a console gamer to begin with.

Either way, both games are so unbelievably good. If anyone's bored I say download it for free and try to get a top 5 finish. You'll be hooked after that.

Criticizing someone else’s direct experience because you have a different opinion is exactly what a fanboy does.

Let's throw out my experience with the game.

Why aren't there any videos of it running like garbage on youtube? Something is a little off here don't you think?

Also, I'm not criticising his direct experience. I'm comparing it with mine, the examples on youtube, Twitch etc and suggesting that it doesn't run like garbage. There's room for everyone's take here.

No, there is nothing off here at all. And no your experience is not being thrown out either. Not one person has criticized your experience. Some just have had a different experience. Big deal.

So yeah, cool down and lay off the fanboy crap.

I have it downloading myself now out of curiosity but from the videos I’ve seen I don’t think I’ll enjoy it.

Different experiences? Mind = blown.

And FYI; I threw out his experience :tounge::tounge:

Please tell us what you think. I think I've turned into a cheerleader for this game so some may have naturally tuned me out, lol!

And here's why people need to drop what they're doing, and download this game tonight.

I just finished playing a game where me and my partner finished 38th out of 50 (not good). Here's the scenario we found ourselves in.

Me (equipped with a single rocket launcher) and my partner (equiped with only an M4) were on top of a mountain just outside of Flush Factory watching a single enemy loot the entire place by himself. Flush Factory can typically equip a 4 man squad with a decent amount of weapons, shields, and health packs so this guy's basically turning into a walking Santa Clause. We're perched 15 stories up, watching this idiot do all this work for us. There's only two routes to take out of Flush and they just so happen to pass by the mountain we're looking down from. The next circle pops up and it's located in just a way where our target could theoretically take either route. I say to my partner "There's a 65% chance he takes the route on the east and a 35% chance he goes north. I say we drop down and camp two bushes on the east route." My friend says "No, let's just stay up here, watch where he goes and follow him." This discussion continues for approximately 45 - 60 seconds until...our man starts heading east! We panic and try to drop down the back of the mountain in the hopes that we can set up before he reaches us. Time is such an issue at this point that both he and I drop so hurredly that we take 75% damage to our health (totally preventable). We drop at the same time but he drops maybe 15 yards east of me. I instantly hear a gun battle start which lasts two or three full seconds (which is good because my partner had to weaken the enemy) and sprint over to him. After a few seconds my boy goes down. This is totally fine as I'll just finish up what my friend started and get him back on his feet. Now I hear reloading which is great because I'm bunny hopping on top of a small hill looking for this guy who has to watch his character reload. He's absolutely screwed. Unfortunately, he jumps out of a bush five feet from me and I light him up with a pumpkin headed rocket. He dies. I die. My partner dies. Yelling and laughter ensue.

The amazing thing about these games (PUBG included) is that the engagements have so much flavor to them. They're absolute story telling factories. You can play for an hour and feel like you've just digitally played through 6 or 7 vastly different movie scenes. One moment you can be hiding in a house with a crappy weapon and you hear the door downstairs open. One set of footsteps come in. Another set of footsteps follow right behind. And all you're thinking is "Please don't come upstairs! Please don't come upstairs!"

Download this game people. Remember when Rocket League first came out and just started gaining traction? That's where we're at with the Battle Royale genre. Do not miss this.

So I played ten games of this tonight and I don't like it. Its a free download so by all means check out it but in the end, I thought it was a basically s*** to play. The goofy base building mechanics lead to players building their own bases/forts in the middle of the map from the start and by the time the game map retracted to their area they had a huge advantage.

In my opinion, wait for PUBG.

The map retracts to random areas. If someone did that they just got very lucky.

Building early like that is not a viable strategy.

"Sh** to play"?! One of 2017s games of the year is "Sh** to play"?!

Ok, you can see yourself out. You are no longer welcome in The Official Fortnite Battle Royale thread.

Honestly, thanks for giving it a shot and sharing your opinion. I will say, as someone who's now put more than 45 hrs into it, your intetpretation of base building is completely wrong. No one does what you think they do. No one.

What was your best finish btw?

Best finish was 10th. And yeah I didn’t enjoy it at all. I don’t like the graphics. I don’t like the animations. I hate the goofy building but to be fair I didn't play the main base building game so I don't know whats going on there. Overall though, yeah, I found it kind of crappy to play.

Positive things I will say is I didn’t find any performance issues but I also didn’t get into any major fire fights. Match making was super fast and it didn’t feel particularly laggy either.Games played out nice and fast as well.

Also, how can my interpretation of base building be wrong ? That’s exactly what I saw happen in most games lol

I’ll give another go tonight and tomorrow to see if my opinion of it changes after playing some more. I'm going to try the other PvE mode as well. It has lead to me thinking I will enjoy PUBG though so thats good.

Ah ok good to know. Maybe they could have modded an existing building. First time I played I stayed right on the edge of the storm and circled my way inward.

So you are just going to throw out his experience, lol.

No, that's two different things. What he described (people just build bases at the start of the match and become OP at the endgame when the storm closes around those bases) never happens. I'm assuming what he misinterpreted was the speed in which some bases can be built. The final two, three circles are relatively small compared to whole map and end up in completely random places. It would be so unlikely to do what he's suggesting that no one one actually does it.

Thanks for the more in depth impressions. It's interesting to see what newbies experience when they first jump in the pool known as Battle Royale.

It will be interesting to see the reaction to PUBG here too. I sort if view these games as League of Legends and Dota 2 or Forza and Gran Turismo. As in, I sort of think it's hard to have wildly different impressions considering the games have such similar gameplay loops. You manage your resources and try to initiate conflict only when it's to your advantage.

I will say, if you're going to play anymore, try out squads or duos with a mic. If you play with someone you click with it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. This is one of the few multiplayer games where communication actually matters.

I don't mind not playing in a squad. Solo is ok for me to sample the game I think.

So on the game, how do people get shields? is that a power up? can people buy those with money? cos thats bad if they can. Also, sometimes I can hear this humming sound in some buildings which I guess means something cool is close? Whats that?

The only thing you can pay for in the game is cosmetics. Epic said in an interview they have no interest in the pay to win model. The shields are rare pick ups that you can find lying around the map or in chests. The sound you hear when in some houses is most likely an unopened chest, which is typically found up in the attic. You're either going to have to land on the roof and break yourself in, or run upstairs, break the ceiling, and build a ramp to get up. Note: If you destroy the floor that the chest is sitting on, you'll destroy the chest as well.

Let us know if your impressions of the game changes! I'm off to get a Fortnite tattoo today so I won't be jumping on until later.

Played a few more games. My best result was 3rd place which I’m pretty happy with. Still find it a bit boring but it has grown on me a little. But what I stil don’t like is the goofy crap. If anything it’s made me really look forward to PUBG.

I will say that if PUBG is on your radar then definitely give this a try.
It’s annoying that the PvE element is still a 40 bucks buy in. I’d like to try it but I’m not paying a for it.

So they're adding a bush costume/ghilli suit item in their next patch, which should hit on Thursday morning. Further cementing Fortnite as the Mario Kart of the Battle Royale genre...

WTF people?!

So basically 19.25 million players since Battle Royale came out six weeks ago. This is madness.

Ok, I have another Fortnite story to share with all of you so buckle up.

Last night, I queue up by myself in a squad game and I'm the luckiest girl on earth because all four of us have mics. To make a long story short we land on the edge of the map and keep getting shafted by the circle. For those of you that dont know, you have to run to a smaller and smaller circle in a set amount of time because a storm will kill you if you're outside of that circle. It's the games way of forcing players towards eachother so there can only be one at the end.

Anyway, we keep getting screwed by the circle because it's always popping up in the furthest possible point from us and we keep barely surviving these gunfights with other teams as we make our way to the next circle. We end up in 3 gunfights with 3 other teams (all seperate times) and we barely survive each one. Our health sucks and we hardly have any ammo due to our prolonged gunfights. We're essentially screwed as we enter the end game with 20 players left.

As we run towards our first end game circle there's a mountain in front of us with a massive ramp leading up to it, and a small, freshly built base on top. A couple of us say something along the lines of "Well, if we're going to die here let's at least go out fighting and try and take this mountain." As all 4 of us, with no cover, low health and little ammo, run up this ramp of death, our guns are taken over by a divine power because we miraculously take this squad out with relativelt little trouble. It doesn't make any sense as they totally had position on us (which matters a lot in this game). After a very brief exchange where they're only able to down one of us (me), we take the mountain. I get picked up and we watch as the storm swallows the ramp we used to take us up there.

Now, we're sitting atop a massive mountain overlooking a relatively small circle with about 7 or 8 people below us. We're able to pick up a few bandages so our health is better but still not great, and our ammo is now a joke. I have 12 bullets in my primary. For a little perspective, it takes 4 or 5 bullets to down an enemy if you hit every shot. No one hits every shot, especially at distance.

The one thing we do have in insane numbers is building materials and seeing as that building is kind of my thing, I get right to work building a flat surface extending out from the top of the mountain towards the center of the circle. I build it as wide as possible so it's difficult to shoot us from down from below. At first, we dont attract much attention as all of the gunfire is contained below, but after 20 or 30 seconds our little base slowly starts becoming more and more intimidating. Imagine looking up at a mountain and a sheet of metal the size of a football field, starts extending out from the top. It's literally blotting out the sky from down below. Now all that contained gunfire is directed at us. Piece by piece our massive platform is getting taken out from below. At first, I tell my squad to just focus on getting kills as I patch the floor up. After about 15 seconds of pure madness, I say "I need some help! They're going to take this floor out from under us if I dont get someone else helping me!". So two of us are patching this massive platform while gunfire from all sides are tearing into us.

After a bit, the people below realize we're patching faster than they can shoot so the gunfire starts being directed towards grounded enemies. We can breath now despite the fact that the actual mountain we climbed, has now been swallowed by the storm. We're safe up here but there's no way down at this point.

"I'm out of ammo."
"Me too."
"No you're not. Are you serious?!"

Of the four of us up here, only one of us has any ammo left, and he only has a few rounds in his sniper rifle. We're screwed. There's 8 people left in the match, we can't get dowm, we have next to no ammo. We're done.

It's peaceful up here. We're perfectly safe and only hear the crackle of gunfire that now seems so distant as l it's no longer a threat.

We start congratulating eachother on a hard fought game and reminisce about the close calls in previous battles we had leading up to this moment.

"GG everyone"
"GG..."
"...uh guys?! Look up."

It's a mother ****ing supply drop!! The massive platform we built acted as a giant net. A supply drop, containing a legendary weapon, ammo, bandages, and building materials starts floating down in a balloon, landing right in our lap!! This is literally a miracle!

I pick up the building materials and my 3 squadmates share the death dealing resources. I start building our base out a little further, and our squad starts raining death from above at the ants below until...

*click click*

We start running out of ammo again. 3 of us are bone dry and our 4th only has a few AR rounds left.

It's 4 (us) vs 1 (enemy) below. All four of us stand on the edge of our platform looking down at the ground. The last remaining enemy is hiding in a small metal shed on the opposite side of what is now a very small circle. Loot is absolutely everywhere on the ground. The weapons and resources of the dead light up the ground like a tacky looking Christmas tree. It's everywhere...we just cant touch it. The game is literally going to decide who wins this depending on where the next even smaller circle pops up. We wait in amazement until the game crushes us. The next circle pops up right over our little ant buddy hiding in his shed.

All four of us are staring down at him. We see the next circle pops up over his little covering and we're speechless. Now, as the storm slowly begins to come towards us, all of a sudden our little buddy sprints out of the shed and makes a B line to the nearest loot.

"Guys look!!"
"He's out of ammo too!"
"What the heck is he doing?!"
"OMG shoot him!!"

Our man takes four or five shots at the sprinter and boom VICTORY ROYALE pops up on our screen.

To this very day, we dont know why he did what he did but we do know one thing. All four of us had erections at the exact same time, and none of us think it was weird. None of us will ever think it's weird.

****ing play this game people.

I prefer PUBG... Fortnite is just the version for 12 year olds. :tounge: At least thats what it looks like.

We will see where this trend goes. Hope we wont see 100 different mediocre battle royale games now.

Fortnite isn't to bad. Its a bit of fun although it wasn't for me. I would recommend you try it out especially as its free. Also, I think thats exactly what we are going to see next and year on onwards... tons of batte royale type games, basically ripping of PUBG.

I'm waiting for PUBG. Don't care for the art style of Fortnite.

Just got nominated for one of these for best multiplayer...

I recommend you at least give it a shot. It's free and it'll introduce you to the basic premise of Battle Royale at least.
