The Outer Worlds - Spacers Choice Edition Coming March 7th

Andy I like you buddy never had a problem with you, glad you’re back. My thing is would you take the time to call out posters here for being PS fanboys, trolling XBox, or always posting negative things about anything XBox?

No, because Sony fans never misbehave.

p.s. Sorry, you probably wanted a serious answer to that question, lol.

I don't spend much time on here, tbh. I rarely visit the Xbox side of this forum, because I just don't have any interest. So I wouldn't see any Sony fans trolling Xbox over there, if it was happening. I can say that, in the past, I've reigned in Val, TD, and several very persistent trolls who did not think highly of Microsoft (Prophet, Sunset, some others I've forgetten now). That was mostly in the past, though. Over the past year, I've taken several long breaks from this forum and from forums in general. I spend more time on GAF lately, because it suits me better. I try to limit myself to threads where games I'm interested in are being discussed. Like Outer Worlds.

I guess the short answer is, I probably would if I saw it, but because of my viewing patterns, I'm not likely to see it.

I'm not claiming to be fair and balanced. I have biases like anyone else. I'd probably be more inclined to let a Sony fanboy get away with something, just because I'm a Sony Pony myself, and also because the general bias of the forum leans so strong in the other direction.

Here's a pretty entertaining walkthrough of the character creation process. He sets out to build a "beautiful idiot" character similar to Han Solo or Nathan Fillion's character in Firefly. I'm thinking of playing the "dumb guy" option myself. Might save it for the second playthrough.

I'd disagree with him that Han Solo or the Firefly character were dumb guys, though. I also don't like his choice of jacking up speech skills. That doesn't make sense in a dumb guy build. I get where he's coming from, though. He's thinking of Han Solo's and Fillion's charm and ability to talk their way out of things.

Mhm. So you were trying to make a point. Well, I'll just say I'm not being a "defensive little fanboy," as you put it. I can't imagine feeling defensive about a minor visual difference between consoles. My brain just doesn't work that way. I'll get defensive about other things, but not stupid crap like that.

It's true that calling someone a fanboy is easy. I don't see why that should stop me, if that's how I see it. I knew I'd get resistance, given the nature of the forum. He doesn't agree, no big deal, doesn't change my opinion.

Plenty of people have called each other fanboys around here through history. People act like it's some big outrage/offense. Call me a fanboy, I don't give a sh*t. Just give me some sort of rationale.
Yes, I was making a point. The point being that a 22 page essay about somebody stating a fact is far more fanboyish than a person stating a fact over and over and easily seen as being defensive.

I’m really looking forward to playing this game. Just hate it’s coming out the same weekend of COD MW. I’ll be too busy launch wheeling playing that with friends. Will get to this game ASAP.
But negative things are all the xbox has.

I'll be playing this day 1. Looking forward to it.

Well whadya know, Andy liked an anti microsoft gif. PS FaNbOy!!!!!Eeeeeeeeeee1111

Anyway, to stay on topic. Im excited to give this a go on Gamepass because why not? And because it's Obsidian. If I enjoy it enough I will buy it just like I have with other past GP titles.

The game looks great to me. It's exactly the type of game I like -- RPG with good customization, lots of branching paths, meaningful choice & consequence, good writing, and a sense of humor. Plus you've got a sci-fi setting, mostly outdoors locations, and a first-person perspective. Nice. Looking forward to it.

It's only supposed to be a 30 to 40 hr. game. The upside of that is, it'll be much easier to replay. And there definitely is replay value here, given all the branching paths. Here's an example (I've cued it up to the relevant bit, just listen for about a minute):

Nah, you're mistaking length for effort. I'm a very fluent person in writing, and it doesn't take me any effort to produce 4 or 5 paragraphs (22 pages? exaggerate much?). I've spent most of my life writing, so it comes very easily and naturally, particularly when someone is expressing that they don't understand what I'm saying. Naturally I'm going to explain.

Most of my posts are longer than the typical forum/twitter fare. That's just how I am. If you want to take a "long" post as evidence that I'm a fanboy or "defensive," that's your right, but there's no truth to it. I think you're just comparing it to your own curt, brief style (which is pretty common on forums) and making assumptions based on that. But look at my post history; you'll see a lot of "long" posts. It's just how I am. Writing comes very easy to me.

Most of the time, I actually have to go back and edit my posts, to shorten them up. I know they can be hard to digest, for people who've become accustomed to brief, two-sentence interchanges.

Was telling a friend that the 30-40 hour gameplay is a big selling point. As I get older, it's easier for me to set time aside for something this size and give me time to play other titles.

I agree it's time to move on. I'll stop responding.

Beware of spoilers in those videos, btw. I've heard there are plenty of those out in the wild.

The review embargo lifts Tuesday, 10/22, three days before release. I'm expecting low to mid 70s.

Ain't watching a single damn video, just in case. And I am looking forward as hell to this, though it may get pushed back since I just dropped the cash on GOG to get Pillars of Eternity 2. Tough call which one to prioritize, but I think I like that dev better. ;)

Yeah, absolutely. I love the Elder Scrolls series, but the idea of sitting down for a 200-hour epic is just too much -- or at least, it's not something I'm willing to do more than once every 6 years or so. Not to mention replaying a game of that size... Yipes. 30 or 40 hours sounds about right to me.

The world is semi-open, which is fine with me, too. I think that should enable them to make environments that feel detailed and hand-crafted.

Forgot this was so close! I'll have to send breakpoint back to gamefly (never even got out of the intro area and lost interest) to get this!

edit: just remembered this is coming to gamepass day one so I'll play it through that. Still sent breakpoint back though so I can get Death Stranding hopefully right away...

Hilarious.

Just 7 more days and it'll be on Gamepass. So hyped to play this! If people like it, The Outer Worlds has a bright future.

Speaking of Gamepass, I'm thinking of going on the Ultimate and trying to reason it out. Obviously, Outer Worlds is one.

Really looking forward to this one. Been digging it since revealed. I think this and Star Wars are my most anticipated.

Not a whole lot new here, but it's a nice catch-up:

Getting very good reviews, better than I expected. 86 on Metacritic so far.

Gamespot gave it a 9:

Yeah, I'm so used to reviewers judging based on visuals and production values that I expected it to get lower scores because of the AA budget. Glad it didn't. I suppose I was keeping my expectations low, too.

I was going to get the game regardless, but it's nice to see it getting good reviews.

Yep and all the reviews I have read so far say exactly this, lots of small glitches, bad sounds, weird textures at places,no third person, but they still score it in the 80's,even some 90's...which is fine by me,jank is not something that turns me off a game.

Game hasn't been on my radar at all (a superpower I have to limit hype) so now I'm really interested in it. Always a fan of Obsidian of course but this is sounding like a real winner. Only a positive that it's on Game Pass. Not sure when I'll get to it but hopefully won't be long.
