The rage against Adam Sessler

Dude has a point, though might have taken it a bit too far.

Sessler says it's all about the games, which is mostly agreeable when it comes to exclusive games. When it comes to multiplatform games price/performance is more important, although there are other considerations like exclusive features and PSN vs Xbox Live. Price/performance does apparently matter to a lot of people, going by popularity metrics, so Sessler is entitled to his unpopular opinion.

GAF's contention, though, is that he's a hypocrite for earlier claiming next gen should be expected to be 1080p 60fps standard/minimum, and picking on PS3 games for having minor resolution/framerate differences, then later backtracking on next gen games and and claiming that resolution doesn't matter.

In any case, it doesn't matter how much Sessler says resolution doesn't matter if people vote with their wallets against him.

Saying "resolution doesn't matter" on GAF is like saying "XB1 is about 33% weaker" (edit) in the Xbox One thread. (although one is an opinion and one is a fact, you get about the same reaction)

I love the internet, but it sure has given a voice to a lot of people with nothing more to say than some hostile, sarcastic one-liner.

Sessler seems to attract this sort of drama, somehow. I suppose by now he is used to it. I think some part of him must like it. Center of attention, maybe.

Neither are facts, :p your maths are wrong, if the PS4 was ~50% more powerful, then the XB1 would only be about 33% weaker. For the XB1 to be 50% weaker then the PS4 would need to be 100% more powerful

Well he was acting rather upset when he realized Sony wasn't sending out free PS4s to him and other game reviewers (I refuse to call them "journalists" in respect for the people who work at the BBC, The Guardian, New York Times, etc.)

Yes ok, you can turn the math around to say that.

Sessler has a bit of flair for the dramatic. He's hugely passionate about the industry and I respect that but some times I wish he'd pipe it down a little.

while I agree the dude doesn't deserve the hate, he is a bit of a hypocrite.

He was one of the gaming journalists that specifically said next gen should be 1080p 60fps.

sigh, I upgraded to ie11 because I was have stability issues with ie10 and I have lost the ability to post emoticons and what not.

I love Sessler. The dude is super intelligent, articulate, and insightful. I really don't see what the big deal is. I watched the video in question, and his points seemed perfectly reasonable to me. Then again, I'm not that super hardcore about all this s***, for better or for worse. I ain't even mad at his Tweets, because I know I'm not the type of person he's referring to, so... *shrug*

He has been nothing but completely right. All he said was that games are what matters and then they flipped out with hate, assassinated his character, and questioned his integrity as a journalist with the most baseless accusations of selfish motives.

Gamers like that I have absolutely no tolerance for. They are acting like complete scum who do nothing but $hit on gaming and the developers that create them. They are an ungrateful, entitled, maladjusted, and more importantly, destructive group of people that fester around that forum of complete trolls.

F^ck them.

Remember when the xbox first came out and every xbox fanboy hated Sessler and thought he was Sony biased. Times were simple back then.Sessler and Gamespot where xbox enemies baby.

*Reads tweets*....He certainly isn't alone

Does that make him a Hypocrite ? I mean this gen should have been 1080P and 60FPS, but it isn't. Would you prefer he just dissed every game that didn't meet this criteria ? He is simply dealing with the disappointment of this gen not being ( at least right now) what many hoped it would be, and trying to see the positives with in the games themselves.

I think he's being hypocritical both by saying 1080p 60fps is expected for next gen, and picking on PS3 multiplat games for minute technical differences (far smaller than something like 720p vs 900p), then turning around and denying all of that and saying resolution and specs now don't matter at all and it's all about the games.

Well yes it is all about the games, but if someone likes mostly multiplatform games, they'll likely go for the cheaper, more powerful system.

As soon as someone starts name calling, belittling, or acting arrogant/condescending towards GAF, they're more than willing to return the favor.

Meh. Can't say I'll watch the video. I myself am pretty much decided on the games, but I do agree that games are the ultimate deciding factor. Especially ones that grabs the peoples attention and in my honest opinion, X1 has the best launch exclusives compared to the Wii U and PS4. Especially after I saw that Dead Rising 3 gameplay vid. Such huge improvements in that game alone. So much talk about resolution and FPS has always gotten a huge "meh" from me as well. Now more than even though since I feel we'll be hitting an uncanny valley and the differences will be so small that only the most hardcore visual folk will pay attention to those pixels. As for Adam Sessler, I get in the mood for watching him every now and then. He's the only guy I ever really cared after the G4/TechTV merging of channels. Still think Judgement Day was a way better show than X-Play though, but he's now the only guy from there I care to seek out. He's well spoken, can throw out a decent yuck-yuck here and there, and backs up his opinions well enough in my opinion.

Sessler made the mistake of complaining about Sony. The SDF is is full swing now days as they are leading up to every launch. Has he slightly over reacted? Yes but it is still a dick move by Sony and the net is becoming full r****d with people taking it personal if you don't worship the feet of the company.

I actually do not like sessler. Never have. So I can not beleive I'm here defending him, but here goes...

If you watch the video where all this stems from his issue is more in publishers and Sony...etc making 1080P/resolution/60FPS seem like the definitive aspects of next gen gaming. Something which happened this gen, and fell flat when such things never actually happened on a consistent basis. He basically says the most important things are game design ( always has been) and he is more excited about other things like A.I and more independent A.I and better, smoother, more realistic animations...Both are things I wanted most from a next gen console. How can anybody disagree with this ?

You say he is a hypocrite for dissing small tech differences this gen, but yet he still praised the s*** out the PS3 game regardless. Not to mention he is an online personality, and he is basically catering to what ever the big things are to garner hits/popularity. It just seems that once again gamers are choosing to focus on the tech specs of games and not the games themselves. What is even more funny is how Playstation fans are making so much noise about the differences and yet this gen they tried to dispel such things as quick as possible.

Just an FYI too....720p to 900p isn't a big difference, and in the case of COD. That 1080P has far more negative impacts in regards to FPS drops which isn't tolerable in a fast paced thing like COD.

720 to 900 and 900 to 1080 are ~50% more pixels, pretty big diff imo. 720 to 1080 is 2.25x more.

CoD has frame drops even on Titan SLI PCs, it seems to be a poor coding issue more than anything. It runs smoothest on the Xbox 360 afaik, so I guess get the 360 version if you want the best experience. I do think they should have dropped the PS4 version to 900p if it meant smoother framerates.

I think he could have avoided the whole mess by throwing the specs crowd a bone and saying "yes specs matter if you want the best looking games at the expense of all else".

If specs really mattered to these people they would be PC gamers. They just Butthurt. The higher Pixels the more you see. The difference between 900P and 1080P is larger than that of 720P and 900p. Go try it yourself on your PC.

Those people are fools though.

He basically said "It's all about gameplay", which is something that's supported by visuals. He's spot on about that.
