I so f***ing hate thieves.
My bank alerted me to the fact that some dick used my debit card to pay for motorcycle gear and shoes from Foot Locker in New York.

They also tried to use Venmo to transfer funds.

Almost $400 in charges that they luckily caught early.
What would have happened if the bank let the charges go through? Would you have gotten a chargeback or anything?

What sucks is that I used that debit card for an appraisal on my new house. And of course the mortgage company tried to run the card today but they couldn't since my account is blocked. :smash:

Good thing I still have a month until closing. But it's just not something I need to deal with right now.

I had actually forgotten about the appraisal.

I had 3 credit cards stolen in about a 2 week period a few months back (not sure if I mentioned it here already). With the pandemic I've barely been out anywhere. My best guess was some online site that I happened to have used each card happened to get hacked, but it still scared me. Was someone hacking my local PC? The weird thing was one card was an old one that I barely used.

Best I could tell, there were 2 different vendors where I used all 3 cards, so one of them must have gotten hacked. I'm still not sure. I never save cards in the browser, but who knows? Maybe I had some nasty malware that never got picked up?

The good thing was that the CC companies are pretty good about this stuff now. It was a major pain. The two big things I do now is try and keep 1 card per site and separate them as much as possible. I also set up a bunch of text alerts for the cards, but that gets to be a pain because some amazon transaction will go through later and I'll forget what it is.

Doesn't matter. They can easily get stolen. I ordered from New York Barbells last year and my card was used illegally within two weeks. I now have a list of automatic payments I have set up because it's a major PITA to remember what services automatically charge my credit card.

Would this help Dno69 Kerosene31 Plainview

If it can, can union become an affiliate?
Apple Pay is really secure and use that when a website enables it. It's also much easier. Just click the pay button, Apple Pay transfer the address, the merchant doesn't see your card information. In the grand scheme of privacy online, Apple is really the only company I trust at the moment.

Bought a t-shirt from my favorite music group's, Gorillaz, store. The store is through their label Warner Music Group and it got hacked. A few months later there was a suspicious "penny charge" at some obscure place in the midwest. Shut that s**t down real quick.

I've been on the internet 20 years, it's just inevitable that my information is being used for bad, life-ruining s***. I remember the day I was fired from my job of 10 years and I got three calls. Not because of that, but because my Battle.net had been hacked. Felt great, man.

I’ve gotten in the habit of checking my bank’s app daily to see if I have any weird charges on my card. So far so good.
"I would love to pay rent, but I wanted to pay for five shots of expensive liquor in an obscure dive bar in Thailand last night more. *shrug*"

Received a scam text message claiming to be from the USPS saying a package delivery needs to be rescheduled. Provided a weird URL which I will not click on.

I would be curious though if this maiicious link would even be effective on my old Kyocera flip phone. I'd imagine they're aiming for Android or maybe Iphone targets to get a foothold in the OS. Not curious enough to click on it though.

I might look into filling out a report providing the number. I wonder how they even got my number since I moved here and still have my northern Michigan #. I moved to Mobile, AL and the scam text is from Huntsville in northern AL.

Fvck these scammers.

So what's the safest way to pay bills online?

I think whenever I go to restaurants or fast food, I'm bringing and using cash every time.
It's sad. But I'm not trusting anyone.

In terms of what? I pay bills using my bank. Nearly everything is done electronically. I have about 20 monthly charges to my credit card and pay that every single time something hit it so I never cover a balance. Other than that, mortgages automatically debit and utilities are paid through my bank.

Yeah I guess I mean like credit card, debit card or routing numbers.

Do you use different ones for different things? Bills, cash withdrawal and online purchases?

Online purchases = credit card. That way, if it's stolen, they're not taking out my actual cash. It's credit. Home Depot = same credit card so it makes returns easier. Food = bank card. Only thing I use cash for is the odd restaurant that is cash only, which is rare now, or playing lotto. lol

I had a dream where I was supposed to move a bunch of junk out of a building. My deceased Mom was there. So where some of my friends. And even Eminem grabbed a couple of boxes without saying anything to anyone or anyone saying anything to him. Lol

Grabbed one box, left, came back and grabbed another one.
