Just got hired as a railroad planner, ie making the schedules for the trains and the work that needs to be done on the railroad. Going from the train dispatch service I had before this means no shift schedule, no weekends, no holidays and a bit higher salary (not by much though).
Starting in September I have something to look forward too when it gets chillier here.

I'm still doing the truck driving thing, but wonder if someday I can pivot off this into some kind of management / logistics position.

A few month ago, I switched to what will become a home daily driving job based out of a brand new ALDI headquarters and warehouse and will bring groceries and supplies to several new stores they just built. I don't work for ALDI directly but they're my company's main customer here. Maybe this place could lead to something better or I could attempt to work for ALDI headquarters directly.

Anyway, the train dispatch sounds interesting. Seems like the rail would be much more resilient during long winter weather.

Yeah, our railroad is in pretty bad shape these days I'm afraid, it's like putting band aid on a burning body lol
I guess that's what we get for having an all exclusive state owned railroad.

Anyway, the dispatch job is the most stressful work I've ever done, it's unhealthy (for me least) and at this point in my life (38 yo with a family) it just isn't worth it.
Pretty psyched for this new opportunity though, and it's government owned agency, so that's good.

There's two types of people in this world:

-Those who wheel the hose inside the house and shoot water out the windows to clean their screens
-Those who lie about it

My wife was horrified I did this. What, like I'm going to remove every screen, one by one, hose it off and let it dry? Naw, bring the hose in and shoot it out the window. Work smarter not harder.

My random thought:

Was on a bike ride home tonight and tried to beat a light. Well I successfully beat the light but I cut the corner too sharp and my back tire tapped the curb and sent me spilling. Keep in mind this was a left turn and there was about to be oncoming traffic. Thankfully was able to get up and grab my bike and go back to the median, but man I thought I was about to die. Do not recommend.

Also, skinned the crap out of my elbow and knee while also breaking my bike chain. Had to walk like two miles home lol, should have taken me 10 mins, ended up taking 40 smh

You need to take better care of yourself, you got this place to run.

Yet another driver broke down with the same problem. What a mess.

On standby in case I need to get his trailer. I hope his truck can be fixed, I really don't want to drive tonight. Manager called me right before I was about to have some wine and chill downtime.

Including me, I think this is the 5th truck to breakdown with the same problem and they're all new Freightliner Trucks.

Just finished 3 months of driving a dedicated route back and forth through Atlanta 6 days a week. OMFG. 😬

I originally applied to a local job, but the catch was the warehouse wasn't finished yet so we had to temporarily bring freight from another warehouse to these new stores near Mobile / Pensacola. So, on top of dealing with Atlanta, I drove almost 400 miles too.

The warehouse officially starts local operations this week so after a short break, I find out if all this was worth it. So far, for what it's worth it really is brand new everything at this ALDI facility which is a nice change.

For anyone that does their own vehicle maintenance, don't buy Purolator fuel filters. I had one less than 2 years old with less than 3000 miles begin splitting from the inside out with a 2" split when i was 30 miles from home and no garage/dealer wanted to help me. I didn't realize it until days later assuming rabbits/squirrels chewed on my flex fuel lines AGAIN.

I work in a retail pharmacy and the other day a girl came in and bought a big box of condoms, I was getting through the line fast so I didn't really notice that they were condoms and just saw it come up on the screen as buy one get one half off, so I told her about the sale and as I was saying it was when I noticed that it was a box of trojans. We both started laughing and she said "I think those will last me a while" lol.
