Wife and I have been miserable with covid. Finally on the mend and the baby has it now, of course. I feel so bad for her. Being a parent is amazing but for f***’s sake if anything ever happened to my daughter I don’t know what I’d do.

Thankfully she is in good spirits! So far. 136C394D-CE04-405B-9443-C5DB24764B38.jpeg

Finally made it home. Travel assignment had combined regular pay with hotel layover pay for 2 weeks. I did get a sweet paycheck boost, but holy s*** driving in DFW.

Also, the warehouse was short of drivers because the whole thing is such a clusterfvck. Not just the driving but moving palletized groceries that you hope don't spill.

Trucker bitching aside, enjoyed the better Mexican eateries and Texas BBQ. Tried an absurdly awesome Mexican Apple Pie at one place.

Something has been aggravating the hell out of me for years.

When I was in elementary school in the mid to late 80’s, I along with a handful of other kids were pulled from class in the early morning to go and have to listen to a sermon each week. It was like 20 minutes or so. The preacher person would read some stuff from the Bible. We'd have to sing before and after the sermon before ending with a prayer. They called it M&M's or something similar sounding. There was only 10-15 of us that had to do it. We weren't the bad kids, so I can't come up with any explanation as to why we were chosen.

Some of the weird songs that I still remember over 35 years ago...

This has been bugging me for years. It's gotten worse lately with no sleep because of lots of bad stuff going on irl here. Anyone have any idea wtf that's about and why they'd pull kids from classes to do such a thing? I can't find anything online about it.

Did the preacher person... liked some of you better than others? Was it only boys?

They're doing similar things at schools locally. 3 months to plan and fix things...they change stuff at the last minute and leave many parents/students left scrambling trying to figure out what to do.
My sister works in an elementary school office and she comes home and vents all the time about how poorly things are run. Things that have to be done when they get back from the summer break (office staff comes back weeks before teachers/students) and of course the idiot parents who all wait until the last day to do their part don't help either.

I think there were girls too. They had cooties and were gross.

So the entire country is run poorly. School has been in session for over 3 weeks locally, and they still don't have enough bus drivers, or they stopped having bus routes where they've had it since I was a kid.

They don't even hold failing kids back anymore, they just pass them to the next grade so they won't impact their funding. Our public education system is failing a lot of kids as are their parents.

Someone I know is a teacher in another state and he says they’re not allowed to fail kids anymore or even get on to them really about anything. He says he has so many kids that can barely do basic stuff anymore that they should know by that age. Some can’t even read or write. If I remember right he teaches 5th graders.

The people who are making these decisions are just hurting these kids in the long run. I've read that it was partly due to them being under pressure to increase graduation rates and since kids that get held back often don't graduate anyway there was no point in taking up the space in classes for younger students but I don't know how accurate that is.

This county had to partner with my city's public bus system, to let students ride for free, due to the crippling school bus driver shortage.

I don't know if it is the same all over, but here bus drivers need to have the same CDL license a trucker needs. There's a shortage of those too, so anyone with a CDL isn't going to bother driving a school bus.

Was this done because the principal or student board wanted it, or maybe the parents wanted it? Maybe a religious or racial thing, or even a sex thing? Were those who were taken out to do said things all male?

Honestly I’ve noticed lately our local schools, bus drivers, city workers, fast food and restaurants are all under staffed and needing people I see signs and posts on social media all the time. Is it more people don’t want to work and lazy as f*** the right spins in my area or people wised up and want better wages.

We also lost a million people to covid and 100-200k more to long covid and disability from it. The most affected are probably people in the lower wage areas. Plus openings for higher wage jobs may have opened and people moved up but there were no replacements because of loss of population.

I wouldn't last fvck that.

Also, Bus drivers need to get the Passenger endorsement on their CDL which is another hassle. I never got the P endorsement so I can't bus people unless I went to a school with passenger vehicles.

Anyway, I think School Bus driver might get less then $20 and also has a split shift which sucks when you think about it. I don't know if they pick up hours between morning and afternoon.

I finally got a niche thing at $28 an hour. Groceries > People.

Funny how rich people try to make their problems into our problems. Everyone is supposedly "quiet quitting" too since one video went viral.

None of these Republicans would ever show up to work for the pathetic wages these jobs get.

I actually saw Australia was allowing way more immigrants in, simply to fill some of these jobs.

Not uncommon for me to hear about a local business completely shutting down or cutting back operating hours due to staffing. Teacher and bus driver shortages were already a thing before the pandemic but was made infinitely worse by it. School attendance has also taken a huge hit.

We have schools around here that are starving for hires. Colorado ranks, like, 50th in teacher pay because of our TABOR and it sucks, sucks, sucks. And then the school districts that are having to close because of heat are the ones where voters rejected mill levy overrides and bonds to pay for, y'know, AC and building improvements. It's just the kids who are suffering, who cares?

We need to raise, as a city, our minimum wage so everyone can get money and then spend it, but around here we believe that people can work for just as much money as a rural town down the street. The "well, everyone's feeling the pinch and having these issues" excuse only goes so far.

Today's prices in Sweden;

Gas; $12/gallon
Electricity; $0,70/kwh

Good thing we dismantled most of our nuclear power plants and went for wind turbines and have to buy most of our gas from russia and electricity when there's no wind.

I heard France may restart the nuclear plants. Maybe more will follow.

The weird part though is what is Russian going to do with their supply? Are they stopping production?

Also, I think I heard China is getting some Natural Gas from them and just reselling it because they don't give AF about the Ukraine war.

Yeah, we will start production on power plants again it seems... but, yeah.

Schools here can't even get nurses, they have to go through agencies. The school my sister works at only gets a nurse half the day most days and if it weren't for the type 1 diabetic kid they have that requires attention daily they probably wouldn't even have a nurse most days of the week.

Thanks! She is over it just fine. Her daddy not so much… I seem to have what they call long covid… smh. Showing symptoms 3 plus weeks after having it. Unable to sleep this whole week. Sigh. I’m somewhat immune compromised (diabetic/no spleen from when I was shot ten years ago) so maybe that’s why.

But lil girl is doing great and that’s all that matters.

Man, I remember the news about you getting shot and all of us pitching in to get you an Xbox One. Time flies.
