The Revenant - Inarritu, DiCaprio, Hardy

The first shot sold me and I stopped watching. Lubezki is the cinematographer so it will be amazingly beautiful. I be he used all natural light. I need to read up about it and see if there's any cinematography articles about it.

Lubezki used an absolute beast of a camera for the film.

Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki — who won an American Society of Cinematographers Award on Sunday for his work on Birdman — has earned a reputation for taking his art in new creative as well as technological directions on films such as Gravity and Birdman. And he's pushing the envelope again on his next project, Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu's The Revenant, using the hotly anticipated ARRI Alexa 65 6K camera.

All natural like like Children of Men! I CANNOT WAIT! Third Oscar am confirmed without seeing it and payment for not winning it for Children of Men.

Having extended the tracking shot beyond its natural limits on “Birdman,” Iñárritu is reteaming with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki to film “The Revenant” using only natural light. It’s reportedly been a grueling shoot, with production delays forcing co-star Tom Hardy to drop out of “Suicide Squad.” Yet based on the reaction to footage of Leonardo DiCaprio engaged in fights and other rugged elements of frontier life, Iñárritu and Lubezki may have accomplished something galvanizing and remarkable.

lol I guess Iñárritu demanded some pretty hefty work out of Hardy, some of which he wasn't comfortable with nor agreed to, that led to some friction but Iñárritu eased the tension between them...by agreeing to get choked out by Hardy who obliged and then made a drawing he then signed and gave out to the crew and made a t-shirt out of it.

I was just about to link this here. You beat me to it. I am really stoked. A pro photographer friend of mine who shoots stills for movie sets was raving about it this morning. Apparently , the scene shot with the pursuit on horses gave him a hard-on.

What's with the spoiling trailers these days?

I heard lots of bad things about Birdman from my friends, many thought it was a pretentious pos that used a continuous shot technique for no reason whatsoever. Which makes me wary of this film as well.

I enjoyed Birdman. I liked the continuous shot technique as well. It didn't detract from the movie and added to the state of the main character.
