The UnionVGF Weightlifting/Workout Thread

So to find other ways to ‘exercise’ without wearing out my joints (although I just can’t let go of squatting heavy :)), I’ve been continuing my cold tolerance training a la Wim Hof.

I got up to 7 minutes here...still working on it. It has the same effect on the body as high intensity exercise. Harder to find cold water now that it’s warming up though.

f*** that.

Abs for 45 min today, strange that working them out tends to blur them for a few hours right afterwards.
On point though, restricting fats this week to see what happens. Water retention is more noticeable when dieting which is kind of irritating but nothing a bit of sun can't fix.

I specialize in making Chinese herb medicines, and I have a patient who is a fitness competitor. She asked me to make her a diuretic, so I asked my master teacher about it.
He gave me a combo of formulas, and when this girl used it she said it was ‘miraculous.’ Now I have more fitness competitors coming in :)

If you want to try it out, I’d be glad to give you the recipe.

Ok, there are no English equivalents, but you can find them online (amounts are based on powdered herbs, per 125 g formula). And make sure the names match exactly!

Ba Zheng San 50g
Hua Shi Cao 25g
Jin Qian Cao 25g
Yi Yi Ren 25g

Mix them all together, and take about 4-5 grams twice per day. Mix the powder in about a cup of hot water and drink like tea.

How is everybody doing? Anyone getting closer to any goals?
I'm down 2 more kg and it's now getting harder to lose more weight without starting to sacrifice muscle... Getting around 100g of protein a day but might try to get in some more and maybe get rid of some fat in my diet idk
Pics from this morning, bad lighting but fat around chest and abs starting to go down quite a bit.

Picture below from around February, about 7kg heavier there, feel pretty good about where I'm going at the moment, although I do this every summer it still feels strange to see what's hidden under the fat when it starts to go lol

I've been biking lately. Try to get out at least three times a week doing 10 miles or so on weeknights then 15-20 on the weekend. Usually once I get into it I'll bump it to 15 during the week and 20-25 on the weekend.

In line with interest in healthier living, I think it makes sense to have an official Health and fitness thread, where forumers can share information on Health & fitness related topics, as well as their personal experiences & WHat healthy or fitness they have recentöy done so we can all motivate each other.

So I shall start off first.

Also, I am sharing my regular fitness:
I go for Karate classes twice a week. Sometimes there special events or break, but by and large, I go regularly. When the weather is good, like now, I also cycle during the weekend.
During colder months, I intend to do sport but in the sports studio. Need to get my money worth, what I paid for, & it ain't cheap.
I am only a leisure cyclist & cycling help me clear my mind & importantly away from any electronic device so I can focus thoughts on what I want to focus.

As for nutrients, I consciously reducing sugar & salt. Not a big deal since I am not a big sugary or salty food fan. In fact, I especially dislike salt. I wanted to have more food like the ones shown in the video linked.
Also, I want to reduce my overall food intake by about 15%. That's should be good.

One last thing, Have quality sleep, do not stay up late, & avoid self-induce stresses.

Looking forward to others to share their experiences.

I have a job that is just active enough or stressful enough to make me tired at the end of the day, so it is a challenge for me to keep a routine or get in the gym after work. My work schedule is not consistent either. Sometimes I have easy days and sometimes I'm busy and can't get away from the work truck for a sit down lunch, so I keep experimenting with what I can take in a lunch box that is convenient to eat on the go.

When I'm tired after work, I feel low motivation to workout on weight machines. I've decided to try a different gym that has heavy punching bags and see if that does anything for me for both some strength and cardio. The gym is has 24 access for members so that helps. I'm also liking that members can hook up music players to their sound system unlike a lot of big corporate gyms that play awful music. So I've tried punching the heavy bag to the soundtrack of DooM lol.

Main thing is I have to get a meal plan that fits my weird 2nd Shift schedule and often having no lunch break.

As for the weather, I would like to get out of this job and move south. This past Winter and that May blizzard was some bulls*** and certainly demotivating.

EDIT: The heavy bag boxing thing might work. I think I just need to find the right meal plan for my weird 2nd Shift schedule. I was just at the gym at 4:30am because i was up all night. Then I'll sleep during the day Sunday to stay on schedule because my work shift starts at 5pm. I might make eggs for Breakfast-Dinner.

Down 10lbs so far this summer. Was hoping for a bit more but sometimes destroy the diet in the process. Oh well still progress. I've never been one to weight lift but I've thought about looking into something like a Bowflex. Mainly just looking to get more toned overall and little more muscle in the arms. Nothing insane.

You'd be better served getting some kettlebells and Rogue bands. Cheaper and a far more beneficial workout.

Would a dumbbell be similar to some of the exercises the kettlebell would get you? Reading into it a bit it looks like due to the handle of a kettlebell it can help more due to needing to maintain more control. Not to continue to shill for Bowflex but while looking into their home gym stuff earlier they have dumbbells with easily selectable weights so an easy one buy and done, with ability to move up in weight over time. Kind of expensive at $300 for the pair. Kettlebells aren't that bad until you start getting higher weights especially if two are needed for an exercise?

Not heavy enough. That's, at best, warmup weight.
You have to remember I have noodle arms. I can't tell you how much I bench as I haven't tried it in like 15 years. 40lb bag of cat liter isn't a problem but i'm also carrying it two handed and not swinging it around.

You will progress fast. Trust me.

Great that people posts in this thread! Anyone starting shredding for summer?

A little late, but yes sir! Started at 200lbs and now down to 166. Tempted to bulk now, but I haven't been this lean in years. may push for another 6lbs to test the shredded look for a bit.

It really makes a huge difference when the fat comes off, looking like random dude body to Hollywood body. Great job my friend you look great!

Good work loosing the softness. Now, time to putt on some symmetrical muscle.

So, been eating like a horse, prob around 5000 kcal/day, feels like all I do is eating lol.
Fluffy as hell and the definition is pretty much gone, but damn it feels great when working out. Can train for up to 2h without losing the pump lol.
180cm, 89kg, up from 75ish kg last time I checked in end of summer. Anyway, update pics on flabby, winter physique;

You keep a fleshlight on the wall Swede?

Ran a 5k this weekend and placed in my age group so feeling pretty good. Only like 300ish runners so I didn't have much competition, but still pretty stoked on that!
