Cool stuff man, thanks for this. I recently got into game development kind of when I was hit with a good idea (my opinion) for a mobile game. Been working on it in Android for the past few months and hope to release it by August-Fall.

Do you need to buy Unity Pro ?

Unity Free, which include the free platform add-on products, may not be licensed or used by a commercial entity with annual gross revenues (based on prior fiscal year) in excess of US$100,000, or by an educational, academic, non-profit or government entity with a total annual budget for the entire entity (based on prior fiscal year) in excess of US$100,000.

I've been involved with unity for years. I would definitely say go for it, get on the unity forums and get some experience. its a great if you can get on a team that communicates and is mature. The problem is most of the teams are a bunch of young kids who think they will be working at Gearbox or Bungie within a few months, so be extremely careful when choosing a team, especially with MMOs. Make sure they have some early gameplay or you at least agree with their philosophy on management and the direction.

Have I seen this earlier I may have been swayed. But right now, I am concentrating my effort on UDK, at least for my current game development, which I hope to release in 2016.

Maybe Unity3D is something to think about in the future.

Cool, with Unity given with every xbox one dev kit, I see more people jumping on board unity.

I just realized (googled) that Unity do not required royalty fee, juts pro licence, after 100,000 in revenue unlike UDK. That's a big incentive to go Unity.

Now I am wondering if my choice to go UDK in my first game development is the right one. Hopefully they will reduce their licence fee due to competition.

Unity for PS4 early access arrives next month

GDC 2014: Fully integrated solutions now also available for PS3 and Vita

Developers will be able to take advantage of an early access version of Unity for PS4 in April.

A partnership between Sony and Unity to bring the engine to PS4 was announced last year and that deal is now coming to fruition.

As well as supporting PlayStation 4, fully integrated solutions for Unity are now available for PS3 and Vita.

The news comes as Sony announced GameMaker is free for all SCE-licenced developers making titles for PS4, PS3 and Vita.

Yesterday Unity revealed Unity 5, which will integrate Geomerics's lighting tech Enlighten, Imagination Technologies' PowerVR Ray Tracing tool and SpeedTree, as well as a host of other new features including a revamped audio pipeline and new audio mixer.

On a separate note, Epic are also implementing a market place like Unity app store. Talk about competition.

Anway, I went over the Unreal community forum, making a thread to vented my criticism of their royalty fee. (especially when no one charges it now). They wanted full royalty for in game current & skin packs. Ridiculous, & the royality fee is not your reveue but selling price of your product including government tax (its 17-23 percent in Europe).

I am now open to Cry engine (royalty fee now also) as well as Unity.

Nintendo has 50 Unity games on the way to Wii U

The company also said it might add Unity support to the 3DS.
Nintendo has announced that it has over 50 games headed to Wii U that use the Unity Game Engine.

Nintendo was showing nine Unity games at GDC last week and said it has another 17 that will release within the next two months.

“And then, we have another fifty that are waiting in the wings,” Senior Manager of Marketing at Nintendo of America’s Licensing department Damon Baker told Siliconera. “So we’ve got a lot of Unity content on the way.”

The large number of Unity games headed to Wii U is the result of a deal Nintendo and Unity Technologies made in 2012. The deal gave Nintendo the right to distribute the Unity development platform to its in-house, external, and third party licensee developers.

Unity is one of the most popular game development tools among indie developers. Nintendo highlighted it during GDC in order to “demonstrate to developers how easy it is for them to bring their creative ideas to Nintendo systems," vice president of Licensing at Nintendo of America Steve Singer said.

Baker said that now that Unity on Wii U is finalized, Nintendo has had discussions and is definitely “looking at” adding Unity support to the Nintendo 3DS. “We’ve got a lot of developers that want to take advantage of it,” he toldSiliconera. “So, we’re working towards that as well. But nothing to announce at this time.”

Posted it in the

I started tinkering with Unity a little bit ago, I think I am going to switch to UE4 though now that it's so cheap. Those blueprints and their tutorials make it easier for me to jump in too. I also ordered a rift dev kit 2, which UE4 has native support for. Curious to see what I could do with that. Wish me luck!

Good luck :)

Good, then I have someone in this forum I can seek help/discuss. I picked up udk beginning of this month (regretting taking so long to finally jumped in). I will go through the book I bought, learning the basic of UDK, before diving into UE4.

I also probably need a new rig, as mine fail the recommned system spec by a bit.

Sweet! I'm a huge noob at this so I'm kind of starting from scratch, not sure how much help I can provide! But it would be nice to bounce ideas off of someone and learn together. You can add me via steam if you'd like. I also have my own team speak server if you want to join sometime and talk things out.

I seldom use steam, but we can use PM here. The hard part for me now is not the learning, but the division of time. Should I spend more time build game asserts, or more time learning, or more time on game design/plot.

I think the important thing is to push forward. I have already the beginning & ending of the game fixed. I am fairly proud of the story so far.

Its the middle part, & integrating the story to the game play that is a challenge for me. But I will figure out a long the way.

I am making an adventure game by the way, I post 2 puzzles so far in the off topic section, if you want to know the kind of game I am making.

Perhaps we can make a thread for all UE4/Unity/cry developers here to share our works & have discussions.
