The "What did you just buy?" Thread

So... After playing around with my new purchase for a day I'll say this, there's many better ways in regards to emulation, A/V quality and portability that's miles better than what this handheld/stationary console can even dream to produce.... But... There's nothing quite like booting Metal Slug up on a Neo Geo replica with true to original neo geo sticks. Also, the handheld is fine, the screen is a bit so-so but I'm not sure why they hated on the battery life (about 5-7h), it's not like the switch is any better lol.
Also, Magician Lord is bonkers lol

Mini Rice Cooker with steamer tray.

The new driving job I started has a layover at a hotel every other night and I usually get here late after any decent restaurants are closed. I already had a thermal insulated bag with some freezer packs I used at a previous job so I bring veggies to steam. This rice cooker is small enough to fit in my duffel bag with other stuff.

It's easy to use and nice to feel like I can have a cooked meal without going into a truck stop on the way here.

I picked up a new camera. Had the Mkii. Wanted the new OM1, but its backordered for months.
A couple pics with it over the last couple weeks:

I also picked this up last August:
I really like it. I have about 2700 sq ft of lawn to mow and I can get through it most of the time on one charge. It rarely bogs down and any time that it has I dont think a gas mower would have made it through without bogging. The one complaint I have is that the front end is long. If you push up against the home or fence, youll have about 10-12 inched of uncut grass.
I also got the 40v Blower and trimmer to go with it. Both work equally as well. I really recommend these.
The main issue mat be the cost of a spare battery.
They also have an inverter that you can use to power a 120v appliance, or whatever for a little while. May come in handy for an extended power outage as a backup. I have a generator, so not much of an issue for me. It would definitely power a few led lights and charge phones though.

Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra

I have the first gen Huawei Watch with Wear OS, I love it in every way except the horrible battery life... max out at 24h.
I bought a Huawei Watch GT2 with a week of battery life, but the OS is barebones af.

Eyeballing Galaxy watch 5, but the battery life kills it there too, doesn't seem to exist any Wear OS watch with a decent battery except the TW (which still isn't that great) at 72h.

Also bought a black metal strap for it.

Samsung Tab S8. Mainly got it for cycling apps on the indoor bike but hopefully can find more uses out of it. Never had a tablet before so we'll see. A bit more than just getting an indoor bike with a built-in screen but at least I'm not limited or have to worry about it breaking or not getting updates.

Toyshock Digital Pinball

Way too expensive to buy new imo, but got it for around $150 used in great condition.

The Good;
It's small enough for my guesthouse.
It's very responsive (I got the newest version at 60fps).
Even though the screen is 1080p the pinballs only render at 720p but it looks clean enough imo.
It was very cheap, especially considering what a custom built virtual pinball goes for.

The Bad;
The pinballs are Gotlieb only (juck...?).
It's 720p.
The speakers suck.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase, but I'll prob mod it with a mini PC and better software and games. I've never meddled with digital pinballs before so it's prob going to take a lot of research, but I've built a few mame arcades and hacked all my mini consoles and arcades, so I'm hoping it won't break me completely lol.

Is there a list anywhere of the pinball machines you can load on it?

One more negative for this machine; you can't. There's a lot of tables though, around a dozen licensed, the problem for me is that they're too obscure... maybe I'm too young, but I don't think I know anyone of them bar maybe Haunted House (and I'm not even sure I really remember that either)... maybe I'm too young idk.
I would want T2, Indiana Jones and those 90s and after tables. Arcade1up and AT Games got a few tables with great titles, but they're too expensive imo.
I do think it'll be great after some serious modding though, just hope it won't cost more than it would if I just bought those pinballs instead lol

I want Addams Family.

Quite possibly the best mower I have ever owned.

So... I wound up going for the Valve Index, but while nice, I had concerns about glasses scratching. I parked it and patiently got my Eye Exam which I had put off during Covid so overdue for it anyway.

Got new eye glasses and just installed Prescription VR Lenses. It oddly feels sort of weird at first, but it is so nice to not have glasses frames on under VR. The more I use it, the more I like it.

I think my eyes are still just getting used to the new prescription.

Otherwise, the Valve Index is running smoothly with Steam better than my old Oculus Rift S. I think Meta has neglected the old hardware and software so it runs choppy with frame jitters.

Proceeded with major VR Upgrade and added 3 Vive body trackers. I now have great full-body tracking. Being able to move your feet it's oddly amazing and adds to immersion.

Messed around in VRChat with Attack on Titan or Godzilla avatars. It's crazy to have full tracking when gigantic lol. So surreal, but quite an gamer experience.

I was browsing Amazon.ca for a tower humidifier (my old one is dead, got a good 4 years out of it)

Specifically tower style this time.

So, I bought a tower shoe rack instead..........

20231112_150704.jpg20231112_150724_HDR.jpg

It was $69.99 canadian, with an instant $10 coupon, and the Edge or waterever coupon thing gave me a couple $20 coupon codes, and the first one worked........

So I pressed $CLICK haha.

I ordered this last night and spend a good 2 hours assembling it, made a mistake and had to redo a bit.......

Anyway, it's not going to be where it is in the picture, it's going in my walk in closet in a corner that has no use.

I'm nerding out about it. It's solid and now I have a place to put the shoes I don't wear all the time, but here and there.

I'm not even a shoe guy, but yeah I am seriously over the moon with this thing for $40.............

Now I need to buy some nicer shoes I guess?

Looks great!
Since there's so many shoes on there, I'm guessing there's at least a couple of naked feet running around there... must be why @Kvally was so fast to like your post.

Just bought a raspberry pi 5. Very interested how it will perform with retro emulation. My pi4 would play up to DC games with some tinkering at 720p on my little s***ty arcade1up cabinet, but I'm thinking of putting this into my bigger, real cab with a crt at 480p... thinking it might play up to PS2 games fairly well (getting mixed info online). Seems to handle saturn and some early 3d sega arcade games well too.

I just bought a new power strip and the dock to connect my Rog Ally to my TV. I'm surprised at how good the image quality is.
