The Witcher 3 1080p/30fps PS4|900p/30fps XBO

Nah. I don't have any preference. I just love to repeat some of the stupid s*** I read in this forum.

...so you respond by promoting and repeating the same stupid s*** you read on this forum.

Odd way of promoting quality posts around here but you do you I suppose.
Here's my train of thought DM. I have nothing against the PS4. It is a beast of a console. I just prefer Xbox. If the Witcher 3 plays and looks better on PS4 then that is fine with me. No sweat off my balls. PS4 has sine amazing games coming out for it but to see some here say the X1 has nothing coming out or that it will rate lower on metacritic(doesn't mean it's not a high quality game) is ridiculous and this forum or these discussions loses credibility real fast.

With that said, I have a neighbor with a PS4 and I can't wait to check out Bloodborne and The Order. PS4 had some awesome stuff coming.

I'm glad they screwed it up to 1080p on the PS4. I was expecting 900. Looking forward to a big open-world RPG in the middle of the year.

Sounds good to me but I don't think anyone has said that stuff in here yet so we should be good. I've always thought the X1 to be a great console by its own rights just the PS side has more variety that caters to my tastes.

And that's fine. Nothing wrong with that. I prefer Xbox live.

I was thinking about getting the collectors edition, which comes with exclusive content for Xbox.

Was already getting this on my PC. Interesting that both console versions sport 30fps and relatively close resolutions. The fact that the game runs just a notch below high settings is quite the achievement on PS4/XB1 given the scope of the game and graphical nuances.

Ok since I speak polish I can tell you that in this vid that just came out threw a polish game site confirms parity. He talks about how he is proud of reaching parity between the two systems here is the link
Case closed please return to your homes!!

I highly doubt this bs about the XBO version having blurry/washed out textures. That's fanboy glaze on the persons eyes, almost all games, 720p. 900p or 1080p have had the same assets since launch in comparison between these two consoles.

Maybe its fanboy glaze,

Not strictly X1, however, its true that a 720p game will have a little bit more wash out textures look by default (even without use of a lower res texture) due to scaling up to 1080p. Its the same effect if you scale up a photo in Photoshop. Its just how graphics work. (Scaling up required filling blanks in the process to get higher resolution from lower native resolution source) Any upscale (even 900p) will result in blurrer look. Now whether a person can detect the differences is another thing altogether. It depends on many factors, like distance from source, size of source, eyesight etc

A bit off topic, & a bit technical, we can dive deeper to look at optimisation of textures with respect to screen resolution.

To give a simple example, if you have a picture frame, & you have a picture in the frame. If the resolution of the screen is 1000x1000, & the maximum coverage of the picture is 1/4 of the screen, (when the player move up close to look at it) it means it will take up around 500x500 pixel (1/4 of 1000X1000) space.

So, to prevent the picture to look blurry (due to filtering which happen when the resolution of the texture is lower than coverage on screen. This is common in many game engine like UE3) , the resolution of the picture must be at least 500x500.

By comparsion, a 1000x1000 texture will be overkill and wastr of horsepower, & a 250x250 texture will look blurry.

To go one step further, this is why 4K games required so much horsepower, On top of rendering 4X size of 1080p, you will need to use very huge textures to bring out the details of the mega 4K resolution screen.

I am not saying game X1 games uses lower textures, I never had an X1 to verify, & its not my interest, but there is good reason why a lower res texture is used (on top of performance) when the game resolution is lower.

Good to hear they at least hit 1080p. Just hope the game is more like W1 and not the snoozefest that was W2.

Not sure I will even notice that the X1 version is 1080p now anyway. But I won't complain :)

This is 100% true. A lower res image that is not the native res of the set you're watching on will indeed appear blurrier than 1080p or higher res.
However, "if" viewing from a distance, it's not really noticeable. This is why for pc gamers, they spot low res immediately, yet console gamers have a hard time seeing it. The difference being, console gamers sit from afar, while pc gamers are up close. Also, good pc gaming monitors have a tendency of showing images better than large TVs, which makes noticing these nuances even more pronounced.

But honestly, for console gamers....1080p vs 900p really doesn't make a difference. From sitting on a couch, you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference in res.

My son has a 17" Asus laptop, and I was watching him play WoW on it the other day. The clarity and crispness of the graphics is nothing like I have seen on a TV.

I concur. Switching to a gaming monitor, the difference between native 1080p and not is even more apparent.

Maybe if you truly read what I said you'd have picked up on me saying a gaming monitor. A laptop display is nowhere near what a decent monitor can produce.

Using a laptop display as evidence of a display with a not so great image, is like me using a generic black friday el cheapo 720p set as evidence that TVs don't look good.

Um, I was supporting your comment Qbert.

Let me rephrase:

The clarity and crispness of the graphics on the laptop is nothing like I have seen on a TV. The laptop is superior.

Lower resolution can and usually does=lower quality textures.
Are you saying its funny both aren't 1080p? (Xbox One still might hit it by launch)
