While my interest is currently at a low it still has some high points. The main ones being Punk/Bryan and Brock.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross announced that he is retiring from WWE today, after 20 years of service, to focus on his personal business endeavors.

Jim has had a long and storied career at WWE, both on the corporate staff as well as his television persona, calling some of the most memorable matches in WWE history as the voice of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown for more than two decades. He made his with WWE at WrestleMania IX in 1993 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 by his long-time friend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Jim has made many contributions to WWE and the sports-entertainment industry, and we thank him for his many years of service and wish him well.

Lets just say it was a forced retirment.

Good Ol' JR, you will be missed.

Maybe he can get another restaurant back up and running. I've been to his (now closed) BBQ joint in Norman a few times. Pretty good food, actually.

UPDATE x 3: Here are some additional bullet points on how the Jim Ross “retirement” … aka firing went down yesterday.

* WWE is calling the Jim Ross departure a “retirement”. Believe what you will but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

* The entire thing stems from the WWE 2K14 symposium in Los Angeles at SummerSlam AXXESS. Right after the event, there was talk that there was major heat on Jim Ross (and Ric Flair) and both could be released due to it. Flair was pulled from a special SummerSlam cameo and they have no plans to use him in the near future.

* Following the SummerSlam WWE 2K panel, three weeks had passed and nobody thought anything of it. WWE sources thought things had blown over until this past weekend.

* The rumors of Jim Ross’ WWE future started back up again over the weekend and it was the topic of discussion this week at the TV tapings. There was talk that they’d be meeting with JR during the week and that happened on Wednesday.

* Jim Ross arrived in Connecticut on Wednesday. Nobody could confirm why he was there but there was a ton of speculation that he was about to be fired. Triple H, Michelle Wilson, Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon were the very select few people “in the know”. Everyone in Stamford thought “this was it” for JR as they had heard the rumors over the weekend.

* The release stems from Jim Ross “not reeling Ric Flair in” after things went off script at SummerSlam. It should be noted that 2K Sports were THRILLED with the media attention they received and were happy with the panel. WWE was the complete opposite and were EXTREMELY upset. They had something in mind and it went the complete opposite direction. It all stems from WWE corporate being pissed off and all the blame went on Jim Ross and Ric Flair.

* The company was especially pissed when Ric Flair mentioned Reed Flair’s death during the panel. They were also upset when Flair mentioned that John Cena was a “hardcore drinker”.

* The people who put on the event (2K Sports) LOVED what they got as we noted above. This was not a WWE event. 2K was thrilled with the media attention as they got tons of extra coverage due to how crazy things got. Stephanie McMahon apologized to 2K executives after the event and 2K said they were fine with what went down. There are many people rolling their eyes as WWE is extremely pissed and the company that was in charge of the event was happy with it.

* Things got pretty tense over the weekend as the Jim Ross rumors started back up. Many were under the impression he’d be fired once this week’s TV tapings were finished.

* The meeting on Wednesday involved Vince McMahon and Jim Ross. We’re not sure if Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were there but things ended with Vince making the final call.

* It all comes down to this – WWE was pissed that Ric Flair and Jim Ross didn’t represent the company in the manner they should have. All the blame went on the two of them and both are no longer affiliated with the company. It’s well known that you represent the company the way they want you to and Ross and Flair failed to do that in WWE’s opinion. The fact that 2K Sports (the company in charge of the event) loved what they got (including all the extra media attention) makes it even more mind boggling that WWE wouldn’t just let it go and ended up releasing Ross in the end.

More as we get it.

For those that don't know, Ric Flair and JR were apparently drunk and making a scene at a WWE 2k14 media event. Apparently this is what caused the "retirement".

What a shame...

Another update on JR's forced retirement, for anyone interested:

UPDATE x 7: There were some very unhappy people in WWE after the news on Jim Ross’ “retirement” (aka firing) broke. Some went on record as saying the stuff on TV has turned to reality. The basic gist of things is that if you represent the company in a bad way, you get fired for it because representing WWE negatively is “bad for business.” Many also feel that the blame should be placed solely on Ric Flair and not Jim Ross … but WWE’s mindset is that JR didn’t do enough to switch topics and move on when things started going off script. What was Jim supposed to do when Ric got emotional and was talking about the death of his son Reed – cut him off?! The company also feels Ross “wasn’t his normal self” during the panel and that is certainty debatable although Ross denies the claims that he was drunk.

…….. and for those who have asked or questioned JR’s departure, no, it’s not a “work” by any means. There are no plans to have him return and get involved in the current storyline. Several top WWE officials (Vince, HHH, Steph, etc.) were legitimately pissed off and have been since SummerSlam. It just took until now for them to do something about it. For what it’s worth, Ric Flair has been fired as well but he was never under contract in the first place. A Flair cameo planned for SummerSlam was scrapped and the ambassador role they wanted him to be in is off the radar as of now.

You can expect Jim Ross to remain classy as he always does in tweets, blogs, etc. There are numerous people who are quietly rolling their eyes at the entire situation though.

I cant help but laugh/eye roll when I read stuff like that as Vince will always be the white man that said this live on TV.

among many other things.

WWE didn't like Ric Flair opening up about the business I guess. I saw that vid and Flair did nothing bad in my opinion. He talk about the old days of territories and even TNA, and treated it like a shoot interview almost. Very weird for both him and Flair to get into trouble. Especially when so many had such a good time. Love hearting JR's musings personally. Part of me kind of wishes TNA would ditch Taz and partner up JR with Mike Tenay. Bit of a dream commentary team for me.

Won't be the first time JR has retired.. I'm not all that upset since he doesn't call Raw anymore.. So i won't notice his absence.

Also.. It does amuse me how upset people are getting over dirt sheets. It's something else if Ross does a real shoot interview.

Anyone bother to watch NoC last night? Daniel Bryan won the title.
Thought this was probably premature.

Heard they finished it on a fast three count. Crazy stuff. Almost too much of a twist. Personally, would've preferred to see Punk win his handicap match with Heyman so they could move him back up into the main event picture. Have Punk cost Orton the match instead. Build up toward a Punk/Bryan vs HHH/Orton tag match at Hell in a Cell.

so bryan just wins the title? first try? :| come on WWE, make people wait abit longer, always in a rush

He got stripped. Which is a bit underwhelming. Like Big Show crying. Man, I don't want to see that. Is WWE giving Big Show and audition or something? It's awkward and being over used. Hopefully botchamaniacs will turn into something golden.

Really???

According to PWInsider.com, some cable companies, including Cox Cable, have been issuing refunds to customers who ordered Night of Champions and felt they were ripped off when the main event decision was overturned by WWE the following night on Raw.

The cable companies issuing refunds have not been limited to Cox, as some WZ readers have noted to us, so if you feel unsatisfied by the event, you are encouraged to call your cable company and ask for a refund.

These people know its not real right??

Super excited! Svengoolie is coming to a local wrestling show called Resistance Pro! I highly recommend it if you're in Illinois. There's gonna be a Halloween contest and the shows themselves are really good. Great action.

Anybody planning on getting WWE2k14? If I have enough money to throw around when my next check comes around, I might get it. Wrestlemania mode sounds very cool from what I've seen. I wonder how they'll expand on that idea. My first though is that they'll use memorable moments from PPVs. Punk beating Cena at Money in the Bank, Stone Cold vs Vince McMahone at St. Valentine's Day Massacre, recent Daniel Bryan beating John Cena only to get beat down and have Orton cash his MitB case on him, etc. It could probably extend to television as well.

yeah big show thing is etting boring but i like the screwing of bryan constantly, it reminds me of the austin vs mcmahon's (less extreme version)

thats the whole point of face vs heel, this is the first time in ages WWE has got it right. power house vs the little guy is always a strong storyline

Used to be the biggest wwf/wwe fan when I was a kid, now I'm strictly TNA, some great 'WRESTLING' in this fed.

I think both still have great wrestling. TNA has the better overall personalities/roster for my money. That said, if you missed out on the 11-on-3 handicap match, you missed out on one of the better matches of the year. I think it's safe to say that tag team wrestling has a good ground to stand on at the moment. Now what these companies need to do is make sure some of these tag teams don't just split in 2014.

Man, Raw just didn't do it for me tonight. Storyline wise, it was pretty boring for me. I dig the Matadores though. I'm enjoying the gimmick and the midget wrestler they have is supposed to be super talented. Not a fan of their masks though. Punk vs Langston was cool. That's about the only highlights I really enjoyed. Seriously though, can we get Big Show to stop whining. Not that long ago he was punching anyone and everyone, but now? The whole thing has run it's course big time. I also want to see this whole Bryan vs WWE storyline pick up already. Something interesting needs to happen beyond crowning a new champion.

Watching WWE Battleground and a 2-3 minute power outage blamed on the government shutdown by JBL, priceless lol.

Alright PPV. Matches were good and the ending was better than I expected. My favorite one was RVD vs ADR, but I have no clue on where Ricardo is heading. His face run has been entirely forgettable and unless they plan on a Ricardo vs ADR match, I don't see much of a future for Ricardo's character beyond being regulated to the C-Squad with Khali and Hornswoggle.

I think we'll either be seeing a long feud between Big Show and Daniel Bryan or the start of a Big Show reign. When Sheamus comes back, he'll be the one to dethrone Show. Going into Wrestlemania, we'll see either Punk or Bryan win the Royal Rumble and face off against Sheamus. Official prediction!!!
