The Wrestling Topic

The end of RAW was pretty good tonight, well the last segment anyway.

I watched a little of Raw. Like theyre involving more chairs. Hate what theyre doing to ziggler and sandow.

Also, idk if anyone has read it before but the weekly wrestling wrapups on IGN are the best things on that site

Apparently they are thinking of doing Summerslam in the UK again. Little known fact SS92 is actually the biggest crowd they have had but they still 'claim' WM III is.

Would go.

Yep. The wrapups are awesome. I look forward to them every week!

Sandow may be getting more of a push soon, or at least that is the rumor that has been going around I think. Ziggler, I just don't know what is going on there. It seems like anyone that is over with the fans that doesn't fit the mold of a Brock Lesnar, Triple H, or John Cena type get burried just as soon as they start building momentum. Guys like Bryan and Ziggler seem to keep getting shafted. I'm surprised Punk was on top as long as he was.

So this part of the place is dead, so I thought I'd spice it up a tad bit with a little question:

What type of DVD/bluray/documentary would you like to see in the world of wrestling? Any era, any company, no matter how big or small. Maybe recommend one or two in the process.

DVD/Bluray set:
-Would love to see another CM Punk DVD, but more of his ECW and OVW matches early in his WWE career would be appreciated.
-Another Edge set would be nice. Make it a trilogy. I sort of imagine that you could make a 3-4 disc compilation with the amount of matches left unused. More coverage on stables like The Brood, Team ECK, La Familia, and Rate RKO would be nice.
-I've been dying for a DDP box set. He's one of my all time favorites and would love to see matches from his early career, to the boom of his popularity, from his WWE days, and even the appearance he made on Raw.
-It's been a while since TNA has done a compilation and I'd like for them to do one on either Bully Ray, whose my current favorite wrestler these days, and a steel cage match compilation. With Bully, there should be enough Team 3D (formerly known as Dudley Boyz) matches, but it shouldn't take away from his singles career either. A short film about his life would be nice as well. Lots of cool matches to include. Bully Ray is a great hardcore wrestler and his best matches have been in those hardcore style bouts. Last Man Standing with AJ Styles and Mr. Anderson, No Holds Barred with Sting, Ladder Match with Jeff Hardy, and his steel cage match with Sabin.
-TNA Steel Cage compilation - TNA has had the best cage matches for my money and that's partly in thanks to the Lockdown ppv. Lots of great matches and moments to choose from, and not just from Lockdown.
-Would love a documentary on the early general history of pro wrestling. I'd love to see how far you can track the roots of the industry, maybe starting with some names from the old carnival days when wrestlers would challenge people from the crowd. I love hearing old stories about it on podcasts and books, but to see any type of images from back then to tell the story of wrestling would be incredibly cool to see.

Recommendations:
WWE:
Best of Monday Night Nitro Vol. 1&2
Starrcade DVD compilation
if you haven't gotten the CM Punk DVD, I'd recommend it. It's a good watch and pretty unconventional in terms of how a WWE documentary is done. You learn about Punk and his life. It all makes for a pretty compelling story.
TNA:
Best of the Asylum, tons of great matches from TNA's old Nashville days with a long list of names. Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk, Ken Shamrock, Ron Killins (R-Truth), D-Lo Brown, Jim Duggan, Raven, etc. A nice variety of veterans, TNA originals, and guys in-between. Not all the matches are equal and the crowd there could be pretty tame at times, but it's a unique southern style atmosphere that's rarely captured these days and I think this DVD and the mini-doc shows it.
Best of the Bloodiest Brawls Vol. 1&2
Jeff Jarrett King of the Mountain DVD - My favorite DVD. It's part huge match compilation, with tons of great content, and part shoot dvd, which I never got too deep into, but you see him discuss things like Vince McMahon, Stone Cold, WCW, TNA's early days, Kurt Angle, etc. It's one of the best and most comprehensive DVD sets ever released in general and it shows. They even throw in some really old Memphis wrestling. You see him go up against guys like Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, Hector Guerrero, and it includes the first time Jarrett was ever on TV as a referee when he was just starting out. Very unique approach to the man's career.
Misc. Wrestling:
Good Old Days - The Jim Crockett Promotions
Seven Levels of Hate - Story behind NWA's last notorious feud between indy stars Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana along with the blowout between the company and wrestlers.
Highspots.com in general as a store. Fantastic place. You can find WWE and TNA dvds there, super old hard to find wrestling merch, internation merch, and indy wrestling shows like PWG, Resistance Pro, CZW, etc. Plus they have something called Highspots.TV where you can see most of the content put on the website. They also offer optional digital downloads for most shows and docs. Great store in general.

Saw Survivor Series, very good PPV overall. Least favorite match was the Diva's match though. Too many Diva's, weird finishes, most of the Diva's really just seem off, but Natalya getting the win makes me happy. Great opener though, I did not expect Roman Reigns to be the sole survivor and beat Rey Mysterio. Hugely surprising. Is Sin Cara still out? Mysterio and Sin Cara made for a hell of a tag team I thought. Looks like WWE is finally gearing up to go with one world champion after all these years. It'll be interesting to see how WWE goes about making making champions. Can't be denied that having two at a time makes things considerably easier for pushing guys toward the main event.

not really since world title isnt seen as a big title.. to me atleast

One title should mean you don't just get the same couple guys going back and forth with it.

"Should''

Are you talking about long feuds in general? Title swapping is hardly new to the present day. Happened a ton during the Attitude Era.
Stone Cold>Kane>Stone Cold
Rock>Mankind>Rock>Mankind>Rock
HHH>Rock>HHH>Rock
Just to name a few.

I'd say it's seen as the No. 2 championship. People certainly qualify as world champion status when they hold it. I guess my point is, it was easy to experiment, give vets their due, and just work with some variety when two world championships were around. Plus, it's main evented a ton of PPVs, including three wrestlemanias.

Not sure what they mean by modern era, but I can believe he's up there as one of the most recorded wrestlers ever given how international he really is.

I don't watch wrestling anymore but I was watching some old stuff on YouTube and I think wrestling peaked at its best in 99 and it wasent even WWF.
WCW had the NWO, Wolfpack feud and a
roster that also included guys like Sting, DDP, Goldberg, Sid Vicious, Macho, the Steiners. Oh yeah, hands down the most entertaining stuff ever.

I was watching Cena/Orton's contract signing for their TLC match. Gotta say, I'm pretty excited for it, but man, as far as contract signings go, my favorites involved Bully Ray. Best full timer in the biz for my money.

He brings an intensity from a different era into the modern day. I just love the guy. Always loved him as a brother Dudley, but he's a whole other level as Bully Ray.

Cena/Orton has been done to death so ill skip that but Orton should get the win.

Too bad he's stuck in TNA. The company was watchable before they completely scrapped the X-Division. It used to be pretty amazing to watch.
I've personally been loving. Never really got too into the x-division to be honest, so I never really felt upset about it. All I'll say is this, TNA has had great moments and matches in 2013 for my money.

I'll watch the match myself. Cena/Orton have always worked well together and I really dug their Iron Man match. Tons of cool spots in that one. I'll be rooting for Randy Orton myself though. I'd love to see him go into the Wrestlemania main event as a heel champ. Perfect main event for me this year would be Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan in a Iron Man match. These things are four hours long and I've always been somewhat shocked that they haven't really done one considering how long some of these matches have been.
Iron Man match
Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan
John Cena vs the Undertaker
CM Punk vs HHH
The Shield vs The Wyatt Family
Those are the matches I really want to see happen.

Which is fine, you like what you like. I've just found it dreadfully boring. When the X-Division was the main draw of the company, you'd actually see crazy stuff you've never seen before. But this was also before they decided to start using the regular square ring instead of the awesome six-sided one they used to use.

To each their own. Not to say I don't enjoy X-Division wrestling, but I was always more drawn to TNA's more old school approach to wrestling in other areas, especially in regards to the world title scene. It reminds me of NWA/WCW times and I just find that it makes for some compelling TV.

5) Emergence of the Wyatt Family

Dude, these guys are at the top of my favorites list right now. I usually don't go for the redneck / swamp people type characters, but these guys pull it off so well. And what I like is how they even wrestle as their characters. Especially Bray Wyatt. Who knew Husky Harris had so much talent?

Yeah, it's been good stuff. Really enjoyed the ending of the last Raw myself. If the Shield ends in 2014, I hope it's against the Wyatt Family.

King was take to hospital before Raw due to chest pains and vomiting.

Tried watching Raw for the first time in months but it was so bad I stopped and deleted my series record again.

Been watching Kevin Steen's (of ROH) Weekend Escapades. Very fun to watch, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Gotta say, I've fallen in love with this big guy! He's fun off the camera, big ol's badass on the camera, and is just plain good at his job. Saw his match with Mike Bennet (a piledriver stretcher match) and it was awesome. Guys a fantastic promo guy as well. However this is behind the scenes type of stuff and it's genuinely fun to watch. Highly recommend it.
