Officially, Microsoft’s Xbox One is a game console, but its aspirations go far beyond play. With built-in video calls via Skype, integration with cable and satellite TV boxes and an interface derived from Windows 8, it’s really a living-room PC. The most intriguing technology is built into the new Kinect sensor, which understands spoken commands, recognizes faces and can even measure your heart rate. Some aspects of the One are still rough around the edges, but it’s going to be fascinating to see where it goes.
We have incoming, ladies and gentleman. Possibly. EA has filedtwo trademarks for "Desert Strike", in what could be an indication that the venerated MegaDrive-era helicopter series is due a reboot.
As noticed by GameInformer, the trademarks were filed last week, on 25th November. They apply to "downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices" and "entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game; provision of information relating to electronic computer games provided via the Internet".
The original Strike games see you taking command of a chopper in top-down view, and exploring large maps for missions, power-ups and targets. I recall playing Jungle Strike and dying constantly. There's also Future Cop: LAPD, a spiritual successor of sorts in which you control a bipedal transforming mech.
In what could be related news, DICE says there are over 15 EA games in the works that run on the Frostbite engine, apparently including a number of unannounced titles. Rev up those hype-motors.
Geoff Keighley, the host of the upcoming Spike’s VGX show tweeted earlier today that footage from the soon to be released Tom Clancy game, The Division, will be aired during the broadcast this coming Saturday night. His tweet read:
“New in-engine look at Tom Clancy’s The Division from @ubisoft is coming to VGX this Saturday night at vgxlive.com”
With this latest announcement, Tom Clancy’s The Division becomes the fifth confirmed game to be on display at the award ceremony, which will air on December 7th at 6PM.
In addition to the announcement of The Division, Karl Stewart, the VP of marketing at Square Enix made the announcement that two new game trailers will debut on their end, potentially bringing the number of featured titles to seven. Rumor has it that one of those trailers will be for the ‘Definitive Edition’ release of Tomb Raider for PS4. Keighly has also confirmed that footage of Quantum Break, the Xbox One exclusive, will be shown, as well as “a big surprise” regarding the much anticipated Titanfall.
If you're an Xbox One owner who is eagerly awaiting the Halo 5 release date you may want to tune in to the VGX awards on Saturday. The annual video game awards show is always a hotbed of AAA debuts (Ex: Skyrim was announced there in 2010) and this year should be no different. Well, it'll be quite different because we're in the next generation of gaming and I'd expect both Sony and Microsoft to bring out some big guns.
For Sony, I'd expect some Uncharted 4 news. But this article isn't about Sony, dammit! This is about the Halo 5 release date! And we know the Halo 5 release date is coming sometime in 2014. So what better way for Microsoft to build some New Year hype than by revealing the Halo 5 release date at America's only televised gaming awards show?
I mean, we know Halo 5 is in development. We got this titillating teaser at E3:
Beyond that, though, there haven't been too many signs of Halo 5 online. Sure, there have been some random Amazon sightings and the like, but nothing to inspire confidence that a Halo 5 release date announcement was coming soon. Until now.
In addition to the VGX Awards (the ideal platform for a Halo 5 announcement) there is also a pre-order page for Halo 5 on Microsoft's website. That's right. You can go to the Microsoft website right now and pre-order Halo 5. It doesn't say when it's going to be available, but I think a Halo 5 pre-order page this close to the VGX awards is a good indication that Microsoft has some serious sh-t cooking.
Back in September, we reported on a pre-order page that went live for a few moments before getting shutdown. However, on that Halo 5 pre-order page fans were able to copy a plot summary that ran along with the game. Since there's nothing official on the Microsoft site here's the (unofficial) plot summary from a Halo 5 pre-order page:
Halo for Xbox One takes the now-legendary saga to new heights and is one of the most anticipated games for the new console.
In possession of a mysterious data chip, Petty Officer John-117, aka Master Chief, confronts a new battery of challenges and tests in a Herculean effort to stay alive in a galaxy where sentient life is mercilessly hunted.
Pre-order the next chapter in the wildly popular Halo series designed exclusively for Xbox One.
This is what im looking forward to.
Iron Galaxy's previously PlayStation-exclusive fighting game parody Divekick is coming to Xbox One, the developer's Dave Lang has revealed as part of today's ID@Xbox news avalanche. The port will apparently "take advantage of all the platform's unique capabilities". Kinect voice commands for corkscrew kicks, please.
"All developers care about is being able to make the games they want and get them into the hands of as many people as possible," Lang observed in an Xbox NewsWire release. "Now, thanks to ID@Xbox, Iron Galaxy can bring Divekick to a Microsoft platform for the first time. We've been working on Xbox One games for a while now, and because of that you can bet Divekick will take advantage of all the platform's unique capabilities."
In September, ID@Xbox program director Chris Charla hinted to OXM that Microsoft might abandon its policy of insisting on a simultaneous Xbox Live release for multiplatform titles, thus opening the door for PS4's timed exclusives. Hopefully, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Zeboyd's Cosmic Star Heroine - previously announced for PC, PS4 and Vita - is also coming to Xbox One under the ID@Xbox program, as revealed by Eurogamer. It's a top-down retro RPG in the vein of the first few Final Fantasy titles.
Asked why he'd made the leap to Xbox One, co-creator Robert Boyd commented: "Mostly, we want to gain experience with the Xbox One for the possibility of future projects." Ooh.
What do you think? Feel free to discuss the games you'd like Microsoft to seduce away from Sony's camp - we'll turn a blind eye, just this once.
Update - Speaking to SavyGamer, a Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the manufacturer no longer insists that developers release the Xbox Live versions of their games at the same time as other versions.
"We do not require exclusivity agreements. However, we do ask for day one parity with other console game platforms. In instances where games have signed a timed exclusive with another platform, we'll work with them on a case by case basis."
Well until we see actual numbers, we won't really know much. It seems like they are doing better though which is a good thing. If most retailers get continual restocks up until Christmas then yeah, should be a way better launch for consumers and for MS.It is good to see MS having a great supply chain for their new system. The XBOX360 launch was a disaster when it came to supply.

Anyone notice the wave of negative XBOX story's again all through the online sites.....not forums,
It's laughable that its so obvious!
It's what gets hits. It's by far the more complex system with more moving parts so more holes are there to poke at. There are quite a few items that need to be updated/patched (some much sooner than others) so it's not like they are just making stuff up. Blowing it out of proportion for click bait...yes.What I don't get, why is the USA press so anti XBOX..... It does not make any fooking sense....... The PONY is a import....its as if the states now has the British Poppy head effect.....(soon as anything is popular cut the head off it!)
Of course my guess is the OX launch date will be the H5 release date. So much of what's going on reminds me of the OX not being taken seriously. It would only be fitting that H5 comes out on the same day, and show everyone what the X1 can do, so far.Just joined this site to get away from IGN for a bit. Already better seeming how I can log in. Guessing halo won't be until late 2014
Quick question why the new thread? I really thought I was banned for something until I saw this.
This is just my opinion please don't take offense. What I don't get, why is the USA press so anti XBOX..... It does not make any fooking sense....... The PONY is a import....its as if the states now has the British Poppy head effect.....(soon as anything is popular cut the head off it!)
Today's "journalism" for today's "gamer". How i miss the days of Diehard Gamefan. They're just appealing to the lowest common denominator
