Thor: Love And Thunder - May 6, 2022

As announced at San Diego Comic-Con today, Natalie Portman, reprising her MCU role as Jane Foster, will be taking up the hammer in the fourth Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, this one directed by Taika Waititi. What this means for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson is unclear, but, honestly, I’m not worried about that right now: Lady. Thor. Yes. Good.

Speaking to io9 in the wake of Marvel Studios’ barnstorming San Diego Comic-Con panel, Kevin Feige confirmed, as Thompson herself teased during Love and Thunder’s unveiling, that Valkyrie will be involved in an LGBTQ storyline as Asgard’s new ruler seeks out a Queen to rule alongside her.

THOR feels weirdly parallel with The Big Lebowski.

Even in the Dude's crazy dream, he was flying while holding the Bowling Ball like Mjolnir. Was he no longer worthy so he fell?

Then the Valkyrie helped him weild it again.

I think I just want to see a Coen Bros. take on Marvel lol.

I hate gender bending characters, it's lazy. I know this was a thing in the comics and it looks like Hemsworth is in this as well but it's just lazy, create new female characters and stop acting like taking the easy way out sends some kind of "powerful" message.

Isn’t it more like taking over the title/mantle, like how falcon is now captain America? It could be an intersection take though, like they did with Carrie-Anne Moss’s character in Jessica Jones.

Thor is Thor, it's his name not his job so it's not the same thing as Captain America who's got a real name and identity aside from his hero name. It just seems lazy, like I'm totally cool with making an alternate universe thing like Miles Morales with Spider-Man because they didn't take it away from peter parker they gave the guy his own storyline. I mean it's still lazy to just keep making different versions of the same character but at least one doesn't erase the other. Calling a female character Thor just seems stupid, if she gets his powers through the hammer or whatever then give her a different name, when Rogue got Captain Marvel's powers they didn't change her name to Captain Marvel she was just Rogue with those powers.

Getting the powers through the hammer makes no sense. Odin already told us tge hammer isn't the source of Thor's power.

Are we even sure she will be called Thor? Maybe they will give her a new hero name.

In Marvel continuity, Mjolnir is forged by Dwarven blacksmiths, and is composed of the fictional Asgardian metal uru. The side of the hammer carries the inscription "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."[4]

Didn't Captain America summon lightning?

True, in the comics I believe she became the true Thor because the original Thor had become unworthy of wielding Mjolnir (jane foster wiki) but it just makes no sense to call her Thor as that was his name not his job.

But...

I coulda swore he said he who holds it has powers of Odin, which would explain why capt is strong enough to kinda push back Thanos in infinity war

I think this is a step backwards.

Natalie Portman was not even happy with the THOR franchise and notably dumped off scrreen to explain here absence in THOR 3.

MARVEL maneuvered this by introducing Valkyrie to replacer her which I thought was a good idea. IMO it should be Valkyrie who actually deserves to weild the Hammer or Stormbreak or whatever it is now.

Meanwhile the Hammer as I understand it is permanently destroyed by Hela. The worthiness requirement was spoken into the Hammer and never into Stormbreaker.

I feel like lazy screen writing is creeping in. Like of fvck it, the Hulk just suddently shows up on another planet to bump into Thor.

Another character not accounted for yet though is Beta Ray Bill who I think was originally seen as an antagonist before being understood as a 'worthy' ally. Actually, Beta Ray Bill wielded a Stormbreaker to so I maybe they're looking to build off that somehow.

But captain nedver held the hammer in or before Infinity.

Look peeps. These are facts....1. Odin tells us the Hammer isn't the source of Thor's power. 2. If it was, how come Thor has his Thor's power without it.

Not saying the hammer isn't special, but as we saw in Ragnerok, Thor's power extends well beyond the hammer. So, Jane getting her Female Thor powers from it just makes no sense at all.

But Odin is speaking into the hammer when Thor isn't even there to see it. That scene makes it clear that if someone else is worthy they get the powers of Thor.

You forgetting that Odin stripped Thor of his power and then spoke into the hammer. Thor gets his power back. Hammer no longer embues the holder with Thor's power.

Which has to be case because of what I stated earlier. The hammer in not the source of Thor's power.

That doesn't mean he couldn't reliquish his power and put it in the hammer again, though.

Also wasn't the heir to Odin's throne a big deal through the first movies?

Loki wanted to rule, but it was Thor's place to succeed Odin. Now just in time when Loki is presumably dead, Thor takes off to go on adventures basically quiting the job handing it off to a new character.

Is this just a savage burn on Loki? He did rule as Fake Odin for a while and while he was being a self indulgent ruler, Asgard was functioning just fine.

I almost hope Loki lived and he's masquerading as Valkyrie this whole time which is why 'she' wants a queen lol. That would be a twist.

Yes and no. It was a big deal, but more in the way of neither were worthy to rule and it was used more as a character growth element....or atleast that is how I remember it.

lol I'm lost. I actually enjoyed the first 2 movies. I will admit The Dark World isn't quite a fun exactly, but this is running fast from being to serious to being to cheesy.

I did enjoy a lot from Ragnarok, but it had little to do with the attempts to emulate GotG humor. I liked the Hulk, Thor really using more of his lightning ability to fight, but especially Cate Blanchette as Hela.

In the first movie they clearly had the hammer and thor's powers linked then ignored it for the 3rd

Not true. He strpped him of his power. Talks to the hammer, key words "the power of Thor' it was was always Thor who had the power, not the hammer.
