I am descent at shooters and struggled with this, I am sure once I figure things out i will be fine. I need to try the rodeo thing on the Titans, totally forgot about that, you just get close and press X right?
I need to pick and choose my battles better, for example I had a bad habit last night of pulling out my anti titan weapon almost every time I saw one even if they were right in front of me, id shoot them once and do minimal damage then I was dead in a second. I need to remember to not always engage and make sure I am up on a roof or have some cover. I totally need to get better at the movement, to many years of COD and found myself staying on the ground and just running around and not remembering to wall run or get on top of buildings
Great game and cant wait to get home tonight and put another hour or so in the beta.
I've only played Attrition and here's some general tips I've used for my play style. I've also maxed out level 14 s I have all the unlocks and custom classes
- Rifleman, using carbine with suppressor and that ACOG
- Arc grenade. I find using frags kind of useless, but tossing an Arc or two at enemy Titans helps
- Cloak
- The default anti-Titan lock on missile
- I play long range and can kill many enemies
- I use Cloak whenever possible... keep spamming it
- That perk that shows on the radar at all times grunts/minions
- I never bother trying to rodeo a Titan. You have to do it cautiously or else you get stomped
- Titan
- Chaingun
- Nuclear bomb self destruction
- Auto eject
- The default unguided missile 6 or 8 pack shot (whatever it's called)
When a Pilot, I go against the grain lone wolf style. I take a sharp left or right and head for high escalations. I'll equip Cloak when I get to a vantage point and skim for enemies. I look out for enemies running and jumping all over because these are human gamers. AI typically move in packs on the ground. They also have bad aim, so the chances of getting killed by one is slim.
Unlike CoD, where I holed up in buildings, don't bother. If anything, try to aim for high vantage points whose rooftops also have big metallic structures for cover.
I focus on killing the human pilot if in range as opposed to AI grunts.
I use the perimeter of the map and try to rack up kills as much as possible before moving to another location. Unlike CoD, you can't camp a spot forever. Be on the look out for easy AI kills when their drop ship lands and 3-4 AI come storming out. Easy pickings.
For Titans, I don't have a strategy for activation. I just activate it asap. Again, I use the perimeter route and try to flank other Titans. Auto-eject makes it easier when critically damaged. Make sure to Disembark when a rodeoer is shooting your mech's head. Kill him and go back in if possible.
My style of Titan warfare is blitz. Flanking or head on I shoot my volley of 6-8 pack missiles, sometimes use the shield thing (I forget half the time), chaingun as much as possible. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, side dash to avoid shield reflected bullets when I see him doing that glowing hand thing. I also like to dash twice fast at at Titan and punch it as much as possible. It does good damage. Make sure to dash away when the enemy Titan is glowing white as that means it's going to self destruct.
When I am not in a Titan, but trying to help take one down, I cloak and try to release 2-3 anti-Titan lock on missiles. They do a decent amount of damage. Not enough to kill them outright, but if an enemy Titan is near it's last legs, a missile can finish the job.
The game is all about Titan control. I typically get 2-4 Titan kills a game.
