Tony Hawk is like the Queen of Skateboard. He seems to be around since forever.

When I was a kid in the 90s & skateboarding, he was already a big name.
Ha, more like the 80s is when he was actually the best. He won nearly every half-pipe competition since it was invented, until maybe like the early to mid 90s.

He was the best at vert half-pipe, but never street skating.

Never being into skateboarding I remember being shocked by how old he looked the first time I saw him in the late 90s.
Funny enough, he looks almost exactly the same today lol

I grew up skating in the 80s, so he already looked like an old man by the late 90s, to me too. Then again, this is how I remember him looking in the mid 80s, after he won about every pro comp year after year already. I know he was a pro since his early teens, I think.

I remember this add in Thrasher magazine from about 1986 or so. For anybody else to be modeling like he did then, they'd be called a "poser". He could pull it off because he couldn't lose a competition. Nobody was better at vert half-pipe! He made it look easy. This guy was at the top of the world for years, and he wouldn't even be recognized for it globally until popular culture caught up with skateboarding about 10-15 years later.

It's really interesting that they got a lot of the soundtrack back. For someone like me, who grew up skating in abandoned warehouses in the 80s and 90s, the original game was already very nostalgic to play. Even a lot of the music was old, and we were listening to it a decade or so before. To revisit this game again is like a multilayered memory trip that keeps going.

The picture posted make no damn sense. There is for reason a pair of shoes in the top, a stakeboard in the air, and cartoon Catus that looks like a certain body part but couldn’t put a finger on what. Then the pink sky.

Art... I don't remember, but I think it was an ad for a clothing line, but it does show his board, which I believe that model just came out, so it could have been an ad for Powel Peralta skateboards. It was a magazine ad, so it probably had him doing a crazy aerial maneuver on the adjacent page. He was the very first person to be sponsored by Airwalk shoes, so maybe it is their clothing line too.

pfffft...ya hipster :p ;)

had the skate series never come about I might've had some remaining interest in the tony hawk series, and as we're not getting a new skate it'll be skater xl for me, I'm passin' on these remasters even if I've nothing but fond memories of the originals, they're just way to arcade-y to me....

Lol, if reminiscing about gaming and skateboarding simultaneously is a wrong, I don't wanna be right! Both were cornerstones of my life.

I now live in a skiing/snowboarding community. I'm 46, with no kids. I can go to one of our skateparks if I choose to risk my life that day, and there is always a chance that I'm not the oldest one there. Slim, but there's a chance. That's now like a 2-3X/year phenomenon, but it's good for the soul... The game always caught the right vibe, and you can play with the skill you wish you really had, and it's a whole lot safer than the real thing. It definitely has its own nostalgia for me.

I can understand this. I loved Skate when it came out, and I felt the same way... but I'm not sure how I feel about it these days. Gameplay seems a bit tedious, even if a whole lot more realistic. I guess that's why I never played any of the sequels to Skate. I just liked the kicked-back TH structure better. Maybe I'll revisit those games after this remake...or maybe just try Skater XL.

Oh to me the gameplay of skate was a delight. My go to "chill" game. I could just pop them in and just cruise around doing lines. The TH structure was far too repetitive for my tastes. Literally just skate around confined maps finding letters & tapes? The skate games had much more free-form objectives and a big open map. Once they made create-a-park in 3, I could just make a super simple map & skate it for hours.... I'm definitely looking forward to Skater XL though...

Jen Oneal the boss at Vicarious Visions clarified that there will be no microtransactions for the upcoming title that’s due to land on Xbox One, PS4, and PC exclusively for the Epic Games Store. “Everything that you see at launch is going to be unlocked with gameplay. We’re not planning on having monetization at launch,”

Translation: Monetization planned & will be implemented post-launch. We don't activate them on launch as not to get backlash & review bomb.

Sadly I'm hearing Skater XL was quietly delayed to July 28th now, however that does help me not get distracted from Ghost of Tsushima for a week, so that'll be good...

Session is entering early access game preview on xbox in one week, Wed. the 17th for $19.99
