Nintendo Co. plans to launch two new versions of its Switch gaming console as early as this summer, people familiar with the matter said, as the company seeks to sustain sales momentum for the product going into a crucial third year.

One version will have enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers, although it won't be as powerful as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 4 Pro or Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox One X, according to parts suppliers and software developers for Nintendo who have early access to a prototype of the machine.

The other version is a cheaper option for casual gamers that Nintendo sees as a successor to its aging hand-held 3DS device, the suppliers and developers say.

Guess it would depend on what exactly it does whether I would be interested in upgrading. Plus I don't even remember how moving consoles with Nintendo even works anymore. At one point with the Wii U it was if it blew up you were SOL. I assume as long as the current Switch still works you can transfer everything (data, games, etc) no problem...

So one is more powerful, and the other is smaller.

I'm wondering "how much more powerful," but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I heard someone say it's not like what Sony did with the Pro. So it's less than that. That doesn't sound impressive, but it might make a difference.

So we might see them at E3, then.

I'd be interested in the upgraded model.

Price would be $399, I'm guessing. And out by holiday 2019.
