Wondering why we haven't heard much about it? With the next gen weeks away it seems UE4 is MIA... I for one wanna see what Epics up to whether it be a game based on the Infiltrator demo,Star Wars 1313 demo or a new Gears Of War...I am excited at the possibilities of UE4 for the next gen.

I thought I read Dead Rising 3 and Day Light were using it I am puzzled to know what else is?

NEXT GEN DON'T START UNTIL UNREAL ENGINE 4 SAYS SO!

It does seen all quiet on the UE front. You'd think that with next gen knocking on the door now there would be some big AAA UE4 game news. Maybe it's just a little more low key with the megaphone Ciffy B gone...

They were partially bought by a Chinese company in July of 2012 and have pretty much said jack s*** since then other than several employees leaving.

The bigger pubs are also now building their own engines more and more and using them across suites of games, which also might be why we aren't seeing a lot on UE4.

If I were to bet.. another aspect of their silence is they could be working on a major exclusive for MS. MS has really liked doing the "keep it tight lipped and announce not too long before the product ships" marketing style. Gears or not, Epic has repeatedly claimed their exclusives with MS last gen were beneficial to them.

I hope this is the case. A new IP though, not Gears.

There were so many games built using the Unreal Engine last gen. It's worrying to find so few games using the engine with the cost of development going up. Bioshock, Dead Space, and Batman Arkham Alysum were two games that used the Unreal Engine last gen. They had limited budgets starting off and the Unreal Engine helped them reduce the cost of making the game.

It seems like Unity has taken a lot of the mind share away from UDK in recent years.

Epic will not be making many games. They rarely do. If you ignore gears of war, all that is left is the unreal games. They made one unreal game for this current gen. They work through developers they own like 'people can fly' and Chair Entertainment who did shadow complex and Infinity Blade to get games made. People can fly made gears of war: Judgment and bulletstorm but with cliffy b looking over their shoulder. Cliffy b is gone now.

I think the only one they themselves are working on is Fortnite

Wasn't UE4 still being heavily tweaked just a couple of months ago? I'm not saying engines aren't always being worked on but maybe a lot of devs are still using UE3 because there are so many cross generational games being made at the moment. How many next gen only games have we really seen announced so far? and of the ones that have been how many are using "next gen" engines vs just upgrading older engines to get the games out early? I'm sure we'll see a lot of them as time goes on, as it is a lot of the launch window stuff is dominated by EA and Ubisoft and they both use engines created in house.

Lost interest to be honest. A lot of the developers I like have had or are working on their own engine.

We still have to wait a while, but it seems like the engine will not be that widely used for AAA games. AAA games are made by big publishers, and these big ones are usually coming up with their own engine these days. Maybe non-COD games from Activision will use it, but COD itself has been using propriety engine, Bethesda Softworks use Tech 5, Ubisoft also went full in-house, and most importantly ALL OF EA turned to Frostbite (even their 3D mobile games will use Frostbite Go), which I'm sure will make it technically the most popular game engine for AAA development. So there are very few independent AAA devs remaining, and not all of them will use Unreal Engine. I can see Rocksteady, Gearbox and Firaxis will use it to name a few, but certainly not all of them. Add Epic's own internal struggle after Tencent buyout and UE4 seems to be troubled.
