100 million vs 10 million vs 6 million. PC >>>>>>>> PS4 > X1 :D

I have like 3 steam accounts. One of them can't even freakin login or retrieve a new password for it because it's under my .edu email account (no longer a student) with like 20+ games.

You know, I'll be in the minority, but that's not really all that impressive to me from a consumer standpoint. Mostly because damn near every PC game released nowadays has Steam DRM built into it. Can't play the game without it. So in essence you have to keep an active account to keep playing your games.

Steam is always an active account though. It's not like live or ps+ that you have to pay, so even if you no longer game on steam, your account is still there. In other words, for the most part, you don't "keep" an active account, it's always active even if you no longer use it.

It's still pretty damn impressive, even if you knock off a few million for those dups and those that no longer use it, it's still an incredibly large number.

Steam is the best thing to happen to gaming in the last decade! Wouldn't have this huge backlog of games without steam sales!

Company is reportedly making a handheld gaming PC likened to Switch

Valve has a Steam related announcement planned for E3 2021.

That’s according to PC Gamer, which published the partial line-up for this year’s PC Gaming Show on Monday.

It said “a message from Valve regarding Steam” will be delivered during the 90-minute event, which kicks off on June 13 at 2.30pm PST / 5.30pm EST / 10.30pm BST.

It was claimed in May that Valve is creating a portable gaming PC likened to Nintendo Switch, codenamed SteamPal.

According to Ars Technica, the hardware will play a large selection of games on Steam via Linux and could launch this year, depending on the supply chain situation.

Multiple sources told the site that SteamPal—or whatever the device ends up being called should it come to market—is an all-in-one PC with gamepad controls and a touchscreen.

The hardware, which is said to be in the prototype stage, will reportedly include the option to “dock” to larger monitors via a USB Type-C port, but doesn’t include detachable controllers like Switch.

One prototype is said to have standard gamepad buttons and triggers, a pair of joysticks and a thumb-sized touchpad.

Steam Deck Reservation FAQ

Why is there a reservation fee?
The main reason for reservations is to ensure an orderly and fair ordering process for customers when Steam Deck inventory becomes available. The additional fee gives us a clearer signal of intent to purchase, which gives us better data to balance supply chain, inventory, and regional distribution leading up to launch.

Why is my account not able to place a reservation until Sunday?
We are aware of potential unauthorized resellers, and as an additional safeguard to ensure a fair ordering process, we’ve added a requirement that the reserver has made a purchase on Steam prior to June 2021 for the first 48 hours of reservation availability.

How does the reservation system work?
When you submit a reservation, you will be put in a queue. Once inventory is available, you will be emailed in the order the reservations were made.

When will I be able to order?
We are aiming to start sending order invitations by December 2021. We will make every effort to convert all reservations to orders but we are not able to guarantee availability.

Can I cancel my reservation?
Yes, you can cancel your reservation on this page. If you cancel within 30 days, you will be refunded to whatever payment method you used. If you cancel after 30 days, your reservation fee will be refunded to your Steam Wallet.

What regions can I reserve Steam Deck from?
Customers in the United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom can reserve a Steam Deck. Information about expanded regional availability coming soon.

How many Steam Decks can I reserve?
One Steam Deck can be reserved and ordered per customer.

What happens to my reservation fee if I do not order my Steam Deck in time?
Your reservation fee will be refunded in full. If your refund occurs within 30 days of your initial reservation, you will be refunded to whatever payment method you used. If your refund occurs after 30 days of your initial reservation, you will be refunded to your Steam Wallet.

Are there any restrictions on users that can reserve the Steam Deck?
Your Steam account must be in a valid country. Additionally for the first 48 hours of reservation availability your account must be in good standing, and have made a purchase on Steam prior to June 2021.

Do I need a Steam account to use Steam Deck?
The default Steam Deck experience requires a Steam account (it's free!). Games are purchased and downloaded using the Steam Store. That said, Steam Deck is a PC so you can install third party software and operating systems.

What if I'm not able to reserve right now and would like to purchase a Steam Deck in the future?
You may add Steam Deck to your wishlist and we will notify you when it is available for general purchase.

Is the reservation queue regional?
Yes, the reservation queue and expected order availability times are specific to each region.

Can I change which Steam Deck I purchase once I'm able to order?
Once you're able to order, you can only purchase the Steam Deck model that you reserved.

When will I be charged in full for Steam Deck?
Once your reserved Steam Deck is available and you complete your purchase, you will be charged.

Does the reservation fee count towards my Steam Deck purchase price?
Yes.

Not sure this is a good buy. Last gen it would have done well, but only 1.6 TF GPU which I don't think will be enough moving forward.

Battery life seems to suck. Storage is lol. Only 800P screen res.

  • it also provides access to an unrestricted computer desktop where any third-party applications can be installed (including non-Steam games or launchers).
  • it a substantial amount stronger than the Switch, allowing it to run modern games impressively well – as a point of reference, I was able to play Jedi Fallen Order on an in-development Steam Deck at “High” graphical settings with little-to-no issue. It can even suspend running games like a console
  • Valve President Gabe Newell told IGN that hitting these price points was 'painful' but 'critical'

You can do a lot more with this than the Nintendo Switch. It's more powerful to boot.

Oh I agree. But people are most likely wanting to go the SSD route if they buy this and that will cost $529 USD I am assuming which is crazy because a PS5 DE costs just $399 compared to this. Of course, one is more portable but still that 33% premium is a tough one to swallow for what you are actually buying on the tech side.

I'm sold.

Nintendo: We added an OLED screen and a LAN port to the Switch.
Valve: Hold my beer.

Valve says is “built with Steam Deck in mind and optimized for a handheld gaming experience.” SteamOS 3.0 includes Proton, a “compatibility layer” that allows Windows games to run on Linux “without any porting work needed from developers.”
Steam Deck is not a closed device, so Valve won’t stop users from doing what they want with it, such as installing Windows and the Epic Games Store. And now that Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in a web browser, the Steam Deck could presumably be used as a portable Xbox Game Pass machine.

I know E3 is over, but it's relevent.

Microsoft has also made great strides with the Game Pass subscription service, porting it over to any platform that will have it. That drive to let those in the Xbox ecosystem truly Play Anywhere is at the heart of the company's rumored team-up with Valve.
