And here to s*** all over your VR Hype, Is... Wait for it... GIANT BORED.... I mean... GIANT BOMB!!!

Ha! Ha! Some of that sh!t was hilarious. That is my fear with VR, I have a feeling it's going to be crap "mini games" for the near future.

At PAX there were quite a few indie booths that games that looked and played like utter sh!t for the Oculus and Rift.

Well yeah indie booths showing off indie games. The Rift also supports Elite Dangerous, Project Cars, Dirt Rally support is incoming shortly (all mind blowing experiences in VR). Insomniac have three games in the works for Rift (Edge of Nowhere launches June). It's launched with 30 games and there's over 100 games coming this year alone.
The problem for VR is even the indie games that look like s*** on a screen can be incredible experiences in VR, you just have to try them. Don't get me wrong, you've every right to be sceptical but don't knock it until you've tried it (apologies of you have, VR is not for everyone). Maybe wait it out a generation or two but VR is here to stay, it's too awesome to fail this time around imo.
These are early days though and until there is a sizable amount of VR headsets out there, we can't expect many AAA devs to be investing in VR, luckily Oculus/Facebook are forking over the $ dollars to ensure content will come and Sony releasing their own VR headset will only strengthen the VR market.
Personally, Elite, Project Cars and Dirt are enough to Justify the price of a Rift alone, I will get many hundreds of hours of mind blowing enjoyment out of those games alone, all the other content is just gravy for me.

Yeah, I mean a crappy game is a crappy game. A lot of people are throwing poop on the wall with limited resources and time to see what sticks. Elite Dangerous, Project Cars, Chronos, Euro truck simulator, War Thunder, Blaze Rush and all the non-gaming experiences like virtual desktop and pr0n will keep me plenty busy until the Touch games come out. :)

No doubt there will be some amazing games for VR, just a lot of the stuff in the pipes is indie and or crappy looking mini game-esce pieces. I haven't played Oculus or Vive, however, I did play PSVR at PAX and while the graphics certainly left a lot to be desired it was a fun experience overall.

VR Porn is kinda awesome and trippy.

Saw something called "Street f***er" featuring a guy dressed like Ken and a girl dresses like Chun LI.

"Round 2 FIGHT! "

Damn near died of laughter.

Well I got my Oculus today and I am torn so I am going to post it on ebay tomorrow and if it doesn't go for over $1,000 I am going to keep it and buy a desktop to handle it. So I'll either be in the $$$ or cracking it open by the end of this week. The gamer in me really wants to give it a go but I can always jump back on sometime in the future.

Raw Data wasn't the only shooter I played in virtual reality at PAX East, nor was it the best. That title belongs to the Oculus Rift exclusiveDead and Buried, a first-person cowboy shootout simulator.

The Oculus area at the expo was divided into four separate rooms, one for each player taking part in the demo. Two teams of two players each battled to be the first to get 15 kills by blasting away at each other with the yet-to-be-released Oculus Touch controllers, all while physically dodging bullets and hiding behind objects in the environment via the Rift's head-tracking ability.

Good gracious. I posted my Oculus Rift on ebay today and in less than an hour it sold for $1,300. Ridiculous, I almost feel bad about selling it for that much but on the other hand considering how quickly it sold I may have been able to get more. Needless to say I am happy to pocket $600 profit after ebay costs/shipping. That fully pays for my PSVR plus a couple games.

Wow, that was quick. That's a good haul! As far as PSVR, I personally would prefer a more open VR ecosystem on PC along with all the graphical improvements. Also, you might be tempted to invest in their project neo console as well. Just something to watch out for as VR seems to be the driving force behind PS4.5. To each their own though, hope you enjoy whatever form of VR you choose!

Or it could pay for another Rift and beefy PC to run said Rift :)

Oculus finally in hand and I haven't even gotten it out of the packaging yet, but this might be the nicest box I've touched since freshman year of college.

I'm genuinely happy for you. Looks like the thirst for VR is real. Before going out and buying PSVR though (which by all accounts is a great hmd), maybe hold on and see what MS may do with an upgraded Xbox, I have a feeling it will support the Rift. It's a quality hmd and worth spending the extra $200 compared to PSVR imo. Especially when it will owe you 0$ in real terms lol. Congrats mate.

Thanks guys. Personally I am in agreement that the OR is going to be a much better experience than PSVR, but like the whole PC vs. console argument some of are just more at ease and like the convenience of consoles even if they aren't the ultimate gaming experience.

I actually may end up selling my pre-order PSVR if the supplies are met with overwhelming demand and use the profits on both to get my ultimate setup, whether it be Neo/PSVR or new PC/OR combo. Either way it is going to be "free" gaming for sacrificing being the early bird.

After having played the PSVR, if you can snag a Rift and PC (for next to nothing) I'd go that route for VR.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could chuck that PSVR out early December to someone desperate for a Christmas gift and make more money off of that than you ever could with the Rift, considering you might be able to sell them for about the same price and there is a much bigger margin with PSVR. Just pray Sony under delivers on shipments, which is almost always their MO, even though they have had the longest lead time with hardware manufacturing.

Retail Oculus Rifts can be purchased this weekend at select locations at Best Buy, amazon.com and microsoft site.

https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/o...rience-kicks-off-at-best-buy-locations-may-7/

I was same day preorder and am estimated for late June... :(

Can't help but feel a bit burned. Was ready to go the second pre orders went up but thanks to website crashes and non acceptance of payment it took me 50 minutes to finally get my order in. Now expected delivery 6-16 June.
On the flipside to this news that Rifts will be in Retail, the more Rifts in the hands of gamers, hopefully the more support we'll see but I do think they should at least honour the pre orders that were in on January 6th before hitting retail. Oh well C'est la Vie.

That is pretty sh!tty, they should at least fill out pre-orders before selling to the general public.

Your college had a "do not touch" box too??

VR games look about as fun as Kinect games...and we saw how well those did.

Here ya go...

Lucid Rifter I think the VR headset would be fun to use with shooters and racing games, will be cool to have a full surround visual. I just don't see games that involve actual VR movements as being something fun to play. I think the Hololens games look equally as bad right now. And I was someone who was and early adopter of Kinect and bought quite a few Kinect titles. Kinect never really lived up to its hype for gaming purposes (although Dance Central was pretty good). The best part of Kinect turned out to be its other features more so than the actual gaming. Maybe VR will be the same thing. Could be very cool for watching movies.

I feel you on that. I actually am more interested in it as an immersion device for traditional games over the Vive version of point and click vr. It is definitely cool for watching movies, but the Gear VR can do that!

OK, a bit different than the original blanket statement. The first thing people do when they get in VR is try to look at their hands. Motion controllers like the Oculus Touch and HTC wands provide that. But I do understand your skepticism for VR motion controls after Kinect. Kinect has a bad latency problem. You can feel the delay between what you see on screen and what you actually do. Also, no haptic feedback. The main issue with Kinect is that it is just not that compelling of an experience on a television screen. So, I wave my arms around and try to time things up? Or kick a ball in a general direction and hopefully it works? It's just not fun.

I'll try to give an example using an actual VR touch title. So, you have this western kind of shooter game. You and your buddy are online playing a 2v2 match. You can be in VR where the entire virtual world where everything is to scale and the objects in front of you look like they're physically there, or you can be looking at a flat TV using your hands as pistols with very noticeable latency. Watch this video and try to imagine the difference in experiences.

You can look at your friend and high five him, lean around corners while shrapnel and glass explode around you, stand up or down, flip a table over for cover, look behind/above/below you, all while pulling a trigger on a controller that when you look down at it is a hand holding a gun that has haptic feedback.

No, wands and touch controllers are not THE answer for VR input. They are AN input though. That's the thing...I have a racing wheel for driving games, HOTAS for space/flying sims, a controller for platformers and these fill another void. There's no one answer.

Well I couldn't grab one on Amazon store or Microsoft's. BUT, tomorrow my local Best Buy is selling a few. They said they're gonna pass out numbers to those who get there early. So I'm going to give that whirl. Wish me luck!

Got there an hour and a half early...was 8th in line. They only had 5 to give. :( Oh well, guess waiting for late June order...
