Official Thread VR Headset

I agree with what you are saying Lucid. I meant to comment on the article when I posted it and it certainly does come across as the company who may be slipping behind calling foul. That said, there is no doubt that the 2 biggest barriers for VR to catch on is it's high cost and lack of quality content. No doubt that a few really good exclusives for OR could do real damage to Vive. And it doesn't necessarily have to come from a big-time studio with truckloads of cash. I am betting that it won't actually. This media is ripe for a small studio to make its mark with a creative idea and rise above like Mojang or Psyonix.

I have the PSVR and got a lot of miles out of the fantastic Resident Evil game. But now I am wondering what's next. Not sure if Star Trek has the depth I'd love like a Mass Effect and I haven't heard a whisper since E3 2016 about Fallout 4 joining the VR lineup. I know OR and Vive users have had some nice titles come out recently but not sure if they would function on my unit if they even are considering a port.

That's the beauty of competition. I don't want any company to "do damage" to each other though, they should be PUSHING each other forward. I do agree that small studios can make their mark, however, Rocket League and Minecraft are riding (amazingly) on the coat tails of decades of hard work on a PC platform whereas devs now are scrambling to throw crap on the wall and see what sticks in VR.

It's still early. Either way I'm thoroughly enjoying my rift and touch controllers. My main gripe is with the hardware itself though. I want a smaller form factor, no wires, higher res, higher field of view, eye tracking with foveated rendering, full body and eye tracking, face expression recognition, haptic feedback all over and inside out tracking. Is that so hard? :p

Star Trek got delayed to add more content and make it more of a full fledged game.

Fallout 4 apparently is coming along very well and will be one of Bethesda's prominent features at E3 2017.

It's still pretty experimental right now. The Climb is a really fun game for the Rift but the gameplay is so shallow. Just like the shooting in Robo Recall. It's a ton of fun but goes dry after a few hours unless you are addicted to high scores. There needs to be a 30 hour experience that utilizes all of these mechanics plus introduce social interaction for ongoing multiplayer.

Fallout 4, Arktika 1, Lone Echo, the 3 games Valve are working on are all very promising.

Playing the Demo for RE7 was pretty awesome, but it definitely was missing a crucial element of VR- You couldn't use your actual hands. This was likely a limitation of the PS4 only having the wands (which weren't usable, but likely because there would be no way to move around), and I hope when the Exclusivity deal is over, they implement something for Vive/Oculus.

I kept thinking about the missed opportunity of being able to grab and manipulate objects. The controller definitely can't duplicate that feeling. It's a clear example of a hardware limitation diminishing a game experience's potential.

Saw a video of a fighting game. Looked like you just had to try and start a fight with everyone. Looked like a laugh does anyone know the name?

The steady rise of Oculus has finally toppled the HTC Vive from its top spot as the most popular VR headset among PC users, according to the latest Steam hardware and software survey.

Since August last year, the Oculus Rift has been gaining ground on the HTC Vive, and last month found itself level pegging with Valve's own hardware.

However, based on the latest batch of data, the Oculus now accounts for 47.31 per cent of Steam users, compared to the HTC Vive's 45.38 per cent. Where last month the Oculus was less than a single per cent behind the Vive, it is now two points ahead.

Movements around Microsoft's mixed reality offering were more stagnant, increasing slightly from 5.1 per cent to 5.36 per cent.

The adoption rate of VR technology remains low among Steam users, with only 0.14 per cent possessing an Oculus Rift, and 0.13 per cent owning a HTC Vive.

I'm probably going to get a quest. My Rift is in my PC room and there isn't a lot of space to really flail around. Also would be nice to have to take on trips/family gatherings/parties. Also my Oculus Go was stolen, so I need a mobile VR device again.

I tried on the Oculus Quest yesterday as we had a dev kit and so light and comfy. I am def getting one of these bad boys.
Very interested in the Vader game but don’t know nothing about the gameplay.

How did it feel to be untethered?

I am locked in for the Quest (128GB) cant wait...feels like this very well could be absolutely massive for gaming

I believe Beat Saber and Super Hot are must have games for it.
Can’t wait to pick one up but I’m building a new home so got to watch every penny at the minute. Please let me know your thoughts on it once you’ve spent some time with it.

I got my brother to get one as well. This is going to be a lot of fun playing with someone I know IRL for the first time. No wires, in my big living room (gaming PC with rift is in small gaming room), play lots of fun games with people. I'm really looking forward to rec room along with all the other popular titles people have mentioned. Rec room paintballing and quests (on quest, hehe) will provide so much entertainment.
