Official Thread VR Headset

ok just played tutorial and the demo level and sold, bought it within 5 mins lol

Yeah the videos just do it absolutely no justice. Before I tried it I was wondering what the big deal was. It looks like a gimmick outside of the headset.

ok just played first mission of blood and truth on PSVR and its a blast. Lots of fun.
After playing though, I miss my wireless experience on Quest and although PSVR is great, having no wires is wayyyyyyyy better.

Also noticed the visuals are sharper on the Quest, I am comparing Vader to blood and truth, seems sharper and crisper on the oculus quest and no screen door effect on the quest but visible on the PSVR.

saying that, blood and truth I think is gonna be a killer title for PSVR and I think re the graphics on Vader that the Quest would be able to run blood and truth or a similar title.

gonna play some more later but all in all great for the future of VR.

just finished superhot VR on the quest and its great! you have to complete it first before anyone like a guest can play which is kinda silly but I guess makes you want to complete it. great VR game, simple but crazy fun! once done the playthrough you unlock loads of other options like headshot only and speed run etc
def recommend it!

Blood and Truth PSVR hit #1 on the UK charts. First time ever a VR game has done so. Lots of milestones this month and last for VR in general.

Okay so played Vader which while very short had some really cool Vader bits. I actually learned back when he come towards me.

Beats Sabre is really cool as well.

Device is super easy to set up and really comfy and really happy with the picture quality.

Please tell me Drunken Bar fight is coming?

Any sites with a good list of upcoming games?

Only things I've seen are rumoured on hinted lists but I saw an article saying over 100 titles will be available for the Quest this year.

Also sounds like Facebook are being a bit dickish rejecting games for the headset

The best way to watch TV in VR. Available on all major VR headsets including Quest and cross platform

Features and updates listed here apply to Quest, Go and Gear VR unless otherwise noted. All content highlighted below will begin roll-out during the week of July 22, 2019.

VR Settings
  • We’ve enhanced the overall audio experience, and added the ability to enable or disable your microphone in VR.
  • We’ve added a search bar throughout your in-VR experience so you can always find the content you’re looking for.
  • You can now opt-in to new features we’re testing from your settings menu under the “Experiments” section, like the bluetooth keyboard option we’ve highlighted below.
  • We’ve added an option in the settings panel for Night Mode to reduce blue light and ease eye strain.
Guardian (Quest)
We’ve improved the overall performance of Guardian and added the following new features:

  • If your Guardian boundaries are too sensitive, you can adjust them from the Guardian settings page.
  • If you need to adjust your floor height, you no longer have to reset your Guardian. Instead, you can make adjustments right from your Guardian settings page.
  • You can now set multiple Guardians in the same room and switch between them.
Keyboard
  • You can now use Bluetooth keyboards and gamepads to type and navigate in VR. You can find pairing options for your Bluetooth device in your headset’s settings panel under the experiments section.
Store
  • We’ve updated the look and feel of the Oculus Store for Go and Gear VR.
  • You can now use filtering based on price, comfort or genre, to make it easier to find new apps you might be interested in.
  • If you’re interested in an app but not ready to purchase, you can save it to your wishlist for later.
Feed
We want to make sure that your Oculus experience is made just for you. To do that, we’ve added the following new features to customize your feed both in VR, and in the Oculus mobile app:
  • Follow your favorite games, developers and genres so you’ll be notified when there’s something new.
  • Let us know if you liked or disliked an app when you’re done using it, so we know what to recommend next.
  • Hide things from your feed that you don’t want to see again.
Headset Setup (Quest)
  • We've updated the experience for adjusting the fit and improving the focus and clarity of your headset.
  • You can now auto-pair your headset from the Oculus mobile app if it's detected nearby.
Touch Controllers (Quest)
We’ve made performance improvements to better track your Touch controller movements in VR. These updates, which are also applicable for Rift S, include:
  • Improved tracking when controllers are close to the headset, and at angles turned away from the headset.
  • Improved tracking in difficult poses such as under-hand throwing motion.
  • Reduced re-acquisition time when controller tracking is lost.
  • You can now use both of your Touch controllers at the same time when interacting with different elements like the keyboard, Oculus Store, and Library.
Profile
  • We’ve made enhancements that make it easier to update and edit your Oculus Avatar.
Notifications
  • You can now receive notifications in VR and in the Oculus app on your phone when an event you’re interested in is starting.

Edit: Night Mode was mistakenly included in these release notes, however this feature is not included in build 7.0. This feature is being targeted for a future release. Apologies for the confusion and thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on this one!

I think I read the battery life for the Quest is only 2-3 hours. Is that true? How long does it take to charge and does it have a battery you can remove and charge externally?

Dang, I want a Quest...mainly for Beat Saber.

Should I get one now or could there be a new iteration next year? I need an excuse to keep my Best Buy elite membership.

I really don’t think there will be a new iteration next year. Maybe 2021, more likely 2022. Zuckerberg said yesterday they’re selling as quick as they’re making them so you may have to shop around. I’m going to pick one up also in the next month or two. Having the option to tether to a PC and play Elite and Project Cars is a bonus I wasn’t expecting.
I had the original Rift I played in my living room but setting packing away the cameras was a chore so I sold it last year. Really looking forward to just being able to pop on the headset and be ready to go. Really looking forward to being able to be untethered to a PC, they even work outside as long as it isn’t too sunny.

Really think all in one VR headsets are the foreseeable future. Been waiting for this for a while. Can finally sell my original Rift and use the Quest exclusively now. Honestly, I'd like a quest refresh in a year with a higher refresh rate, higher field of view and better speakers (like what index has). But I'm really OK with the current quest for the next 2-3 years.

I can play fun games at lower fidelity wirelessly in the living room when I really want to stretch my arms and let it fly, but then go to my gaming room and plug in the quest for high end PCVR games/simulators. Plus, the quest is going to have hand tracking! There's some smart f'n people over at Oculus. Yes, get a quest now...if you can find one!
