From next month you’ll be able to connect to a PC and play Rift PC games too and have the best of both worlds.

Anyone have a Quest and a PSVR out there? I'm just wondering how they compare, and if it's worth having both (I own a PSVR).

Get a Quest. It's such a great device. I use Quest wirelessly for games like Beatsaber, Rec Room and Racket Fury but next month you'll be able to play PC VR on it with Oculus Link! Plus it's a great standalone entertainment device for social apps, watching movies and porn (let's be honest here).

I appreciate PSVR and how it pulls casual gamers into VR, but sell it if you need some extra cash. The tracking improvement alone is worth it. Oculus is gearing up with some great releases with Asgard's Wrath (just released), Stormland (coming soon), and the medal of honor game next year.

Latest update

Casting
We've made the following updates and enhancements to casting features:
  • Quest now supports all generations of Chromecast as well as some devices with Chromecast built in (NVIDIA SHIELD TV, Google Home Hub and some smart TVs).
  • You can now start a casting session in VR as an alternative to using the Oculus Mobile app. To do so, select Sharing > Cast and choose the device you want to cast to.
  • Chromecast latency, connection stability and picture quality have all been improved.
  • Feedback when a casting connection is established or broken has been improved.
Notification Preferences
We've made some improvements to notification preferences in VR to clarify that the preferences set in the headset are different to those set in the mobile application.
  • To access your notification settings in VR, select Settings > Notifications and adjust the toggles to reflect your settings preferences for each notification type.
Settings
We've made improvements to the settings in VR that allow you to better personalise your VR experience.
  • To access your settings in VR, select Settings and adjust the toggles to reflect your preferences.
New Experiments
This section includes new features we're testing for future releases. You can opt in to experimental features by selecting Settings > Experimentsin VR. Please note that the experiments section includes features that are still being developed, so you may encounter anything from minor issues to app crashes.
  • On Quest, you can now see when your friends beat your high score in games such as Beat Saber. You'll be able to see these updates in the Oculus mobile app, as well as in VR.
  • On Quest, you can now see a curated set of trending and popular videos of people playing games on Quest.
  • On Quest, you can now see a list of the "The Top Five" of a certain type of content, such as the "The Top Five Sport Games", "The Top Five Games for Breaking a Sweat", "The Top Five Apps for the Weekend" etc.
Miscellaneous
  • We've made system updates that improve performance when running some applications.
  • We've created new icons and optimised our iconography for consistency, improved performance and enhanced readability.
Rift and Rift S build 1.42 release notes
All of these features and enhancements will become available throughout the week beginning on 14 October 2019.
Dash
  • We have added a new search feature within the Dash Store tab. This will allow you to find the games and apps you're looking for more quickly.
Home
  • When you drop into Home for the first time, you'll now see a new brief overview of the features and potential of Oculus Home.
  • We have added a new toggle for automatically launching Home. Switching this setting off will stop Home from automatically launching in scenarios such as jumping into VR and exiting out of apps. You can find this option within the Settings > General menu inside the Oculus desktop app.
  • We have added a new agreement to the UGC upload process. Before a new UGC item can be uploaded for use, you are required to attest that you own this content and that it does not violate any trademarks.

Finally got my 10 ft cord and got my first taste of PC level Vr tonight via the Oculus link . Played, I think it's called, Lone Echo. Was mesmerized. The detail was quite the step up.

Worked flawlessly, and I barely used any battery! Presumably because the headset isn't computing the game.

I also messed around with the virtual desktop and thought it was great! If you have a quest and a good PC it's friggin great!

Negatives are that you are definitely limited to that cord length and the wire felt heavier than I expected. It has to be able to transfer all the data I guess. I think Oculus said they were working on designing their own.

Now I've got the best of both worlds! Not being tethered is much better for games like Pstol Whip (super fun!) and Beat Saber, and the immersive games can go on the PC.

... I'm so spoiled...

Oh yeah, Boneworks is great! Check it out!

Have you checked any driving games out? Project Cars blew me away. The cars feel full sized and the night time tracks with your car all lit up inside from the drivers headlights behind you is just so immersive. Definitely worth picking up a cheap wheel and pedals if you can adds even more immersion.

Got a Logitech G27 and stand for this. Project cars on a wheel and Elite Dangerous on HOTAS are masterpieces. Just hate having to drag out my rigs every time I wanna play. Need a better sim area in my next home...

I have to laugh when I see people on this forum who clearly like driving games s*** on VR. I can only assume they’ve never tried it. Sim/cockpit games in VR with the right peripherals as you know are in such a different league compared to playing flat games on a screen. I’m not even into driving games that much but can hand on heart say they’re easily one of the most epic gaming experience’s I’ve had.
Elite Dangerous is another mind blowing game in VR. Definitely worth the couple of hours it takes to get your head around how to play it.
I’m really excited for what’s to come over the next few years. Especially now with Next Gen around the corner as the PS5 will have the power to run games like Project Cars and Elite Dangerous in VR.

Driving games are like a simple mod, as far as VR development goes. I don't imagine it would take Turn10 very long at all to make an entire Forza Motorsport into VR. I honestly think that MSFT is really effin up by not having a VR solution to launch with next gen. Because with Forza and Flight Simulator seemingly both absolutely PERFECT for VR, right out of the gate, and it would take very little developer adaptation from the pancake games, and both would hands-down just play better in VR.
