Starting March 26, gamers will be able to trade in used games at Walmart which will in turn begin being sold to the public later this year.

The process is simple: bring in your used game, with its original packaging, to the electronics department of any of the 3,100 Walmart stores across the United States. An associate will scan your game and give it a once-over to determine its value before providing you with a credit voucher that can be used in any Walmart or Sam's Club both in store and online. Your trade-in will then be refurbished and sold as a used title beginning "later this year."

Unlike GameStop, however, Walmart will not offer the option of receiving cash for game trade-ins, nor will it accept video game hardware.

“Gaming continues to be an important business for us and we’re actively taking aim at the $2 billion pre-owned video game opportunity,” Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising and marketing officer for Walmart U.S., said in a press release. “When we disrupt markets and compete, our customer wins. They’ll save money on video games and have the flexibility to spend it however they want.”

What are your thoughts on that? I personal have no problem with it if it saves money. I'm one of the people who like to spend money on used games in order to save money.

damn s*** just got real. I see the return of DRM and passes in the future. wal-mart would have no issue clearing out old used games for insane cheap prices just to get you in the store.

Great, just more of a reason for more ghetto people to flood Walmart.

I hope this comes to Canada. As long as their trade in prices are good, no more EB, Best Buy or Future Shop for me. I'll happily take WM credit over forcing myself to buy electronics

I hope WM doesn't skimp because the types of products they carry in store vs. a game store or electronics store is typically higher margin so they should be able to afford to give a few extra bucks knowing an avg person will use that credit to buy high margin clothes, snacks and all those impulse goods you see at the checkout counter. And believe it or not, even boring staples like fruits and deli are high margin too. Although interestingly, some staples like milk is not. Go figure.

LOL. Every once in a while when I go to the US on business, our group may check out US retailers for interest. Man, many of the US Walmart's are lousy.

Thankfully, the Canadian ones are all pretty clean, new and in decent suburbs most of the time. WMs just came to Canada around 1995, so even the oldest one is only about 20 years old. Most of them have been built in the past 10-15 years so they are in good shape. And every year, most of the new ones that open up are nice supercentres, or they convert older ones into renovated supercentres.

The difference in WMs between US and Canada is unbelievable big.

The end is nigh...

This'll hopefully light a fire under GameStop's ass in their used game pricing.
Its good to have a huge retailer like Walmart try this,it benefits us in the long run. GameStop had better fear this or they might see their profits plunge, since everyone goes to Walmart in America. LOL.

On a related note I was with a friend there the other night. We saw 2 PS4s in stock(these were totally just in) and 3 TitanFall bundles also. We did some beer and munchies shopping at the other end of the store, then headed back to the gaming area. All PS4s and TitanFall bundles were gone. Jesus.

I'll take GameStop >>> Walmart any day when comes to buying used games. You guys a NOOB.

Got PS3 South Park Stick of Truth for $39.XX using my PUR and 20% off coupon a few days ago.
I then drove a mile to the next GameStop store and picked up Worlds of Outlaws 360 (extremely rare game - $35+ on eBay/Amazon) for $15.XX using my PUR and 20% off coupon again.

Powerup Rewards (10% off used game; $15 per/year) + 20% off Birthday Coupon (unlimited use - I have the coupon store in my phone - search the internet for it) + 7 Days Return Policy (full refund - no question asks). Imagine using this during GameStop's Buy 2 get 1 free promotion.
