Believing that consistency is critical, Watch Dogs developer Ubisoft Montreal is currently targeting 30 frames per second as the framerate in its debut title on next-generation consoles.

"Right now the frame rate we're focusing on [is] a steady 30 [FPS]," said creative director Jonathan Morin in an interview with VideoGamer. "There's always a balance, especially for open world, between the simulation and the rest. I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness and [ensuring] that it's always capped the same so when you play it it feels right."

The subject of the next-gen versions' native resolution was also broached, but Morin said he was unsure as to the answer.

Just yesterday, Guerrilla Games revealed its PS4 launch title, Killzone: Shadow Fall, doesn't run at a consistent 60 frames per second. In order to achieve the level of visual fidelity seen in multiplayer, Guerrilla allows the framerate to drop at times -- but it claims "usually in the moments where we're going to drop framerate, either you're already dead or it's too late anyway." Shadow Fall's single-player runs at the same 30 frames per second that Watch Dogs does.

IGN will be speaking with Morin today and asking him the questions about Watch Dogs that you want answered. Stay tuned for more details about the open-world title ahead of its launch this November on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

In many ways I expected this but it's still disappointing. Going to be even more disappointing if it can't run native 1080p or worse, some sub hd resolution :-\

Anyone expecting a big pretty open world game like watch dogs to run 60fps 1080p on next gen consoles has set their expectations way too high. For racing and fighting games fine, but some open world games have trouble doing it on pcs with much more power (re: single card configurations). This is usually do to poor optimization I believe.

Good decision. I'd rather have better visuals and 30fps, than lower visuals and 60fps.

I'm planning to get this day 1. Partly because it looks different and interesting and partly because it feels wrong to get a new console with nothing but sequels to existing IP.

Meh, for some reason the more I see of Watchdogs the less interested I get.

I'm excited for it but I can see lots of ppl getting burnt out on it. Sony shows it at almost every damn conference they have. It's over exposed at this point. AC4 as well.

After playing GTA 5 I don't know if I want to play another big open world game now. So maybe I will just get Battlefield 4 and Killzone at launch.
