Ubisoft has confirmed that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs will not arrive when the game launches on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One at some point between 1st April and 30th June.

It will launch at some point afterwards - but the company was not able to say when.

"We made the difficult decision to further delay the release of Watch Dogs on Wii U," Ubisoft announced to investors last night, "to focus the team's resources where they could have the broadest possible benefit for both our customers and Ubisoft".

That's probably a nice way of saying Watch Dogs is canceled on Wii U. I don't get it. Developers don't like making money unless it's worth their time i guess? I was always led to believe that making any amount of money is a positive. I guess Wii U doesn't bring in the millions like Xbox, PlayStation, and PC does so it's not worth their time.

It's probably the combo of tablet features and wanting to squeeze as much juice as they can out of the X1/PS4 for when the game releases.

It would be interesting to know how much $$$ porting a game costs. When ports get cancelled it means it's not worth it.

So let's say WD Wii U sold 100,000 copies at an avg wholesale cost of $30 (probably starts at $40 then gets discounted over time). 100,000 x $30 = $3,000,000 sales.

$3M isn't enough to do a port?

That $3M will prolly just cover costs of the Wii U version when all said and done.

Ouch. It sounds like the Wii U isn't even worth it to them. I blame Nintendo for this. They should have done better than just copy the Wii's success.

I think more projects are gonna get pulled like this over time. Wii U is going to have a tough time. I don't know if people were actually hyped for getting this for the Wii U.

I agree. It's to bad too, without games the systems gonna be a tough sell, and without systems selling no ones gonna wanna make games for it, vicious cycle...

I have a feeling Watch Dogs in general will not do well. My gut says by missing the launch window of the consoles was a big mistake on Ubisofts part.

Yeah, I was looking forward to it, now my plate is full with more promising games. There also seemed to be a fair bit of hype pre-console launch for it, not there seems to be very little.

And I guess even if they could break even, why take aim at breaking even when there's a fair chance you will lose money and very little chance you'll make a profit.
AND the man hours could be used to produce something more profitable.

I'm sure it will do well but the game has looked weaker in graphics and gameplay with every new video since it was announced.

If I get it, it's going to be for the Xbox One. If the Wii U had a bigger following, I think this game would be perfect for it. The Gamepad could be used very effectively. That being said, if the Wii U gets Watch Dogs, I think it will be a shallow port.

Yeah this game is right in the Wii U's wheelhouse. That being said I don't have high hopes for the Wii U version, nor do I have high hopes for the other platforms either.

When it was first announced I like others had high hopes especially for the U. If I do pick this up it will be on the Xone unless the WiiU version turns out great.

Well in all honesty, I never really understood what the pull of this game was. So for all I'm concerned it isn't that much of a loss if they do cancel, that said it wouldn't be nice for those waiting for the game to arrive on their Wii U.

Well another update on a game that may happen.

"We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it," he said. "It's also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn't want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we're going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good (technically) when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U."

That sounds awesome, actually taking the time to use the game pad and not just shovelwaring it out. Hopefully it turns out good, who knows it could end up being the best version out of all the platforms.

It is good news but this game had almost all but fell off the radar for me. Think it releases in May for Xone/PS4 and by that time I will be in full MK8 hype mode so maybe if it releases later this fall/winter that could be a good thing ?

$3M isn't enough to do a port?

The publisher has to pay the console manufacturer ~$8.00 or so per copy, then has packaging/shipping/distributor cut to handle.

And they have to pay all of that even for copies that don't sell.

So if they print 100,000 and sell all of them, sure maybe a couple of million dollars are made. But the market is suggesting that even expecting 100k sales of a Wii-U port is wishful thinking.

It's why we see a lot of companies not even bothering. Those that have should continue to see ports though, since they've already paid to develop teams/methodologies/relationships with Nintendo, etc.

Those that didn't establish Wii-U development teams/project managers/etc. by and large are just forgetting about the damn thing.
