bought new house. previous owner ran speaker wire into the ceiling. so we have four drops appropriately placed for front and rear speakers which would be mounted on the ceiling. I guess the center speaker will go under the TV. Ceilings are pretty high, I'm guessing 12 ft. What are my options for under $1000? *note, looking for a package solution, don't want to buy components from different places and build, also the room is fairly large and echo-y.

I have Tannoy Arena 5.1 surround speakers. they look great and are perfect for wall mounting. since this model is discontinued, you can get a $2000 system for under $1000.
Sound quality is top notch.
I have to wall mounts and 2 speaker stands. but you can wall or ceiling mount them all (including the centre speaker)

Question.

Do you want a good component system with emphasis on soundfield and delivery to watchers?
or...

Do you want a good system, looks stylish, gives good sound, if you ever have to upgrade you'll have to start all over?

I need to upgrade my sound system....I use this el cheapo setup for my pc and console:

In the process of upgrading my entire Living Room furniture + speakers.

I will probably also upgrade that receiver.. it's a couple years old now and I really could use a couple more HDMI ports for my "ultimate videogame home theater" setup I envision (360,XBO,PS3,PS4,Wii-U,Gaming PC, DVR, Dedicated BR).

That's a 3 piece set, I'm buying 5 pieces.. so I'll have tons of room for all of my different electronics.

I'm good for life as far as speakers, but I still frequent audio/video forums and these Andrew Jones designed Pioneer speakers are praised very highly. Apparently serious bang for buck. Have a look, do some research etc on them.

Try this link for excellent speakers without the heavy price.

I have the level-3s and can say they are excellent for the price. They have other smaller speaker designs as well that I'm sure are among some of the best bangs for the buck. I power them with an Onkyo 7.2 receiver with Def-Tech dipole surrounds from Vanns.

In my other setup I've got paradigm milleniaOnes up front with 4 Energy "take" series for surrounds powered with a Denon receiver.

My old setup I had a 5.1 with NHT superones so I've seen and owned a fair share of gear with regards to this and love the HTD speakers as much as any of the higher priced ones. The only thing I'd really like to audition would be the goldenear tritons just to see how the ribbon tweeters compare to the level-3s.

I wanted these, but ended up going with a bunch of larger Polk Speakers because of crazy NewEgg sales.

Got like $1,200 worth of kit for around $500.

But now that I have all these speakers... I kinda regret it.. lol.. the surrounds in particular are just too big for my setup.

Granted, I have plans for a gaming room downstairs where size of speakers is a non-issue.. but now I'm sort of stuck with a mis-matched set. Need to find something in between my current really small Polk surrounds and the ridiculously large Monitor-35's I'd never mount in my living room as it'd look ridiculous.

We use an LG Soundbar with the wireless Subwoofer. Works great and got it on the cheap.

I have the same setup (for the most part, my sub look different) and it's great for what I paid (got it open box last december for like $40).

I use this on my now old PC. I'm using an old ass Onkyo 7.1 receiver w/polk audio speakers for my TV and with this new PC I'm using an Astro A50.
