John Wick 3: FANTASTIC

I liked the first John Wick film, and thought the second one was a tad boring. The third installment was tons of fun, mostly because it stopped taking itself seriously. The cinematography, lighting, editing, and choreography of course are wonderful, but I have to say, the dogs in the film stole every scene.

John Wick 3 - 9/11 The Johns arch come to an end and then some :p but the plot really isn’t what we’re here for, it’s the lore, a lore that gets deeper with granular detail that keeps that world so intriguing, love it. It’s still a beautiful ballet of bullets and kung fu

*edit note* the sound effects were fantastic, huge sound stage with an actual sense of height as well

John Wick 3 - Good. I did find the fights at times seemed off due to timing irregularities. 7.5/10

Polaroid: Bad. Silly explanation to the haunted camera and useless twists.

Us: Meh. Fun moments but silly explanation to the twins and an illogical twist.

Brightburn - Good

It was better than expected. Don't watch if you have a weak stomach (lady in front of me in the theater kept turning from the screen) due to the gore.

There are some things I wish it could've delved into more, but I'm okay with saving them for a sequel. Some great easter eggs in there too.

Always Be My Maybe (Netflix): Great! Funny movie and great cameo from a big star.

Aladdin: Surprisingly Good. Will Smith had the charisma to carry the movie. However, there were a couple of weird editing things - slow mo in the intro, and fast forwarding action/dance sequences. Music was good, and the big set pieces were fantastic.

Watched the Deadwood movie on HBO. I remember being a huge fan of the show back in the day, but the movie wasn't great. One problem is it had been so long since I saw the series (at least 10+ years). Worth watching if you were a big fan of the show anyway.

Starting the Harry Potter series for the first time, ordered the box set last month my wife is a fan of the films. Just got done watching the first film. Well that was surprisingly enjoyable even watching it now as an adult. Wish I had something like this growing up lol. What I really liked was how imaginative it was. Have to say I’m interested to see where this is going.

Brightburn:

It's gimmicky movie, though a very well executed gimmick.

Interesting to come at the super hero/villain story from another angle, but the movie felt incomplete somehow.

Aladdin - it was surprisingly good, not great, but my niece loved it.

Can’t go in watching this with a biased favoring the animated original, there are neat nods to it though.

This is a more grounded and believable world, some great special effects that may be over looked, music was aight (not a musical fan), felt a bit like frozen, and I’m ok if they don’t make a sequel.

If you get a chance/excuse to see this it’s a recommendation but otherwise if you’re a fan of the first one then just wait to comfortably watch this on the couch.

Three out of four stars.

Captive State: Slow burn but I enjoyed how it wrapped up. Some clever ideas for the alien invaders.

Detective Pikachu: I've never played the games or watched the cartoons so it was just ok for me.

X-men Dark Phoenix - Terrible. The stoy/plot development is ridiculously bad. Sophie Turners(Jean Grey) acting is...well, s***. The action sequences are bad. It is just bad.

As someone who literally jsut finished the show before starting the movie, I liked it a lot. Had the same feel to it, and was real weird to see the age transitions back to back like that lol. I'd say it was solid, not great.

Nothing wrong with getting into it as an adult, I haven't watched any of them yet but I plan on it sometime. I still watch the NeverEnding Story a few times a year and I just turned 46 last week lol, one of my all time favorites.

This touches on an interesting point. I mean so much is cinema has recently been dominated by comic book superheroes.

I also think a lot of projects bank heavily on nostalgia reinventing things like Transformers or even The Power Rangers.

In many ways, show concepts from when we were kids are being repackaged and marketed to us again, only now with amazing modern FX.

I think this is something that keeps evolving and in some cases things like Brightburn or Deadpool churn out that are comic book projects revised purely for adults.

My random thoughts on this is I hope after enough bank is made from Marvel, Hollywood will take a chance and dig into the roots of comic books including E.C. Horror or properly revisit HEAVY METAL.
