What movies have you seen recently?

I watched Marriage Story last night. It was an acting knockout. Great cast and I really liked Ray Liotta’s part in this.
Agreed 100%. All four major roles knocked it out of the park. I have not and probably won't see Judy so I'll never really know, but for my money ScarJo deserves that Oscar. Best performance I've seen from her.

Terminator Dark Fate - fine movie, although it's interesting that no one seems to complain about the fact that all Cameron involved movies in the franchise follow the exact same premise and situations lol
Arnold looks great in this even if the screwed up his only scene with muscles showing (bicep concealed by a ladder or such while hanging from a ledge).

Train to Busan - can't believe I haven't watched this earlier?! Best zombie movie of the 2000s imo.

Zombieland Double Tap - okay. Not sure what they could've done to make it better, but it's a bleaker movie than the first (which I thought great).

Scouts guide to the zombie apocalypse - okay, zombies looked fine.

Rewatched;

Alien - still a masterpiece
Aliens - still great
Alien 3 - good but haven't had to be made
Alien resurrection - better than 3 and better than I remembered, this Ripley isn't a great character though.
Prometheus - lol Ridley Scott
Alien covenant - lol again

Honestly, he should just make a short film at this point, explaining the hows and whys of the human/xenomorph/engineer love triangle.
Her had two movies and somehow managed to tell us crappy side stories while having the audience eager to know the reason for the engineers reasons.
I feel like Weyland.

Haven't seen Marriage Story but she is really good in Jojo Rabbit too

Just finished watching Jojo Rabbit and it's an easy 10/10 for me.

A few months ago I saw a study posted about only 40% of young people had any knowledge or WWII and 16% knew what the holocaust was, which is really disturbing.

So hopefully this movie is popular. Really well done and it's not just for kids IMO (what are kids watching that this is grouped into that?) Yet it's also disturbing if it is this hard to educate kids about it. Probably means I'm getting old.

I'm not joking though Jojo was fantastic.

I rented Gemini Man last night. The movie overall was decent just nothing special coming from this director. The action scenes were well done and the film looked great on my set. I was entertained.

Where'd you see this study, InfoWars or Breitbart?

On the local news. You know what, I'll have to ask the kids I work with about it. I work with teenagers (unfortunately) quite a bit and it's shocking what they don't know.

But I came to the conclusion that I'm just getting old and turning into that old person lol.

Anyway I looked into Jojo the Rabbit a bit more and can't even believe that the guy that made it is the guy from New Zealand who plays the nice funny vampire from What We Do In The Shadows.

As soon as Hitler (the character) came on screen in Jojo I said to my girlfriend "hey it's that guy!"

I also had no idea he was the dude that made Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Really interesting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taika_Waititi

Taika Waititi has and will do nothing wrong ever. The guy is an international treasure who keeps knocking it out of the park.

He's definitely a national treasure here in NZ I wouldn't be surprised if he gets knighted like Peter Jackson.

Parasite - 9 servings of ram-don out of 10

I actually ordered some off of Amazon after watching the movie. It's from the same company that makes shin ramyun and I love that s***.

Joker.
Phoenix certainly deserved an oscar, but I can't say I really enjoyed much of the movie except his acting.
And I don't really feel any joker vibes at all, they could've skipped that branding and movie would be same. The Wayne connection felt forced.
Still, Phoenix can act.
7/10 with Phoenix acting into account.

That's about how I felt. You could literally replace Thomas Wayne with any rich famous person and it wouldn't have changed the beat of the movie.

i dont know... joker coming up to the kid bruce had an impact on me more than if it was just some random kid

also the swerve of "wait is joker bruces step brother in this" wouldnt work if it was some random rich dude as you would be like "who cares"

Theoretically it makes sense so you can have that added storyline, but I feel like it was added just to make a connection if that makes sense? What Swede and I are saying (well, what I'm saying at least) is that you could have taken all the Batman related content out, and it still would have been a decent movie and Phoenix would still have won the Oscar. It's not a great movie, and didn't deserve to be nominated for Best Picture. His performance really carries that flick.

Like I almost think the movie was originally written as an extremely f***ed up guy coming to terms with his own origins, and then some editor was like "Yo we can make this into a Joker origin story" and wrote around that.

The only modern origin story for batman is Batman Begins, in which Thomas Wayne is presentd as a man for the people and Batman trying to save the "innocents" of Gothem from the criminals.

What Joker does is take that idea and flip it. Thomas Wayne is not a nice guy, and the "innocents" are what created one of Gotham's most menacing criminal figures. All of which culminates in the Origin of Batman.
