What movies have you seen recently?

Last Seen Alive with Gerard Butler - Average

Slow burner, somewhat bad acting, some CGI looks bad.

Starting a watch of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition 4K editions. Wanted to watch all of them before watching the new Amazon series this weekend. Haven’t seen these in a few years. Going to push my surround sound to the max!

Well you don't watch a Gerarf Butler movie for his acting skills.

But yeah, movie is pretty poor. It is like they watched Kurt Russel's Breakdown and thought it was a perfect movie.

I agree with you. Yet I keep watching his movies 🤷‍♂️

I still want to check out Last Seen Alive. G. Butler is one of my fave actors. He hasn't had the best roles lately but I did enjoy Greenland and the totally bonkers Geostorm.

In my opinion one of his best films was RocknRolla. I was hoping for a sequel with the "Real RocknRolla" but now it seems impossible to get the gang back together of him, Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Toby Kebbell and Mark Strong.

What is that movie that came out recently I think it takes place in a police station. Heard it’s a fun movie and Butler is good in it.

Won't be much other than horror / monster movies coming from me until Halloween is over. Since Friday:

Curse of the Undead
The Fly (1958 )
Godzilla (2014)
The Invisible Man (1933)
Return of the Fly
The Invisible Man Returns
Pitch Black

Because of a recommendation of a friend we recently watched the film from India RRR. OMG, what a fantastic film filled with a great story of friendship and love of country, high octane over the top action and the most epic dance-off I've ever seen on film. Its streaming on Netflix. What a fantastic adventure this film took us on and I'll tune in again soon for another viewing.

Also, this film puts a lot of the recent Hollywood films to shame.

Watching Elvis.

Tom Hanks is SOOOO bad doing a Dutch accent, but maybe it's spot on, I have no idea.

They should have gone with someone else, and I LOVE Tom Hanks.

The rest of it, well we'll see, it's interesting.

I love early Elvis and his story, never cared much for his later days and never cared to watch his movies.

So it's a strange thing to watch, because it's Baz Luhrmann, it's not a documentary......it's a surreal "snapshot" of a larger than life legend.

I am kinda digging it aside from the Tom Hanks bits, but learning to just deal with that. It's like a fevered dream of Elvis and his impact.

Also there is music with guitars soaked in reverb and tube amp breakup, I'm a sucker for that.

Errrr, I got a long way to go to give it a rating. Not for most people for sure though.

My sister asked me to watch the new Pinocchio on Disney+ with her, didn't care for it. The effects were all over the place and the story was rushed. I only remember bits and pieces of the cartoon when I was a kid but I'm sure that was better.

I'm watching it with the kids tonight, that's disappointing to read.

PONTYPOOL ( 2008 )

Strange concept for a kind of viral zombie outbreak. The infection is not spread by a bite, but takes hold through language or words are the trigger. It begins like the way a song can get stuck in your head but much worse. The person begins speaking weird circular phrase like their mind is in a loop it can't get out of before turning violent.

On top of this, the central protagonist is a radio jock receiving information at his station about some weird viral outbreak or riot. The 2 ideas mesh as spoken word is his whole living.

Interesting setup and I enjoyed the pacing of it. The entire movie takes place in the radio station so it's interesting to see a 'zombie' like movie stay put and not go the action flick route.

The central idea of this makes me think of Memes. Not just silly pictures, but Memetics as a study of evolving 'Idea Packages'. It also makes me think of Rhetoric which almost does this for real in some cases depending on how it's used.

Thor: Love and Thunder

MCU really needs to get back to the quality they had before End Game.
The comedy barely works (and they really, really, really try hard lol), the action is okay at best, the token female and male gay scenes feel forced, the 70% black asgardian kids is hilarious, the Jane Foster arc was so bad I didn't even care about how it all ended, Bale tried hard but the only good scene was the intro scene with his daughter.

I'm all for all the h*** rights etc, but gdsdamnit disney, make it at least seem natural and quit being scared a******s by censoring it in selected regions while preaching it in others.

The good; chris having peak, juiced to the gills, mutant übermenschen body was fantastic, he even made batista look like a fat slob lol
