What movies have you seen recently?

Well that sucks. What did you not like about it?
Way too long and drawn out. It’s 2:45. If it was :45 it may be better. Story is rather boring and isn’t engaging so maybe not. I’m sure people here will like it, I just couldn’t wait for it to end. A couple funny parts.

Shazam

Love it. They really should have released it at a better time. Could have been much bigger for them as it's easily one of the best comic book movies.

Q.T takes a real life event that could have been a great film and makes it some fantasy BS and wastes a great cast.

Can't wait for all the Star Trek fans to have a meltdown when he ruins that.

Damn where all the QT hate coming from? I’ve enjoyed his films.

There’s some movies of his I like, and others I don’t care for. He is hit or miss for me.

I would say there are very few I didn’t care for, then again I haven’t seen his new film. I really love his writing and directing style. He can take a scene with nothing going on and have you hanging on every word.

I would say I liked most of his stuff. Didn’t like Deathproof and Jackie Brown was ok. Once is way too long and drawn out. It could have easily been 45 minutes shorter.

Really?

I thought it was ok.

What I found odd was how futuristic it was. Just seemed way out of place.
I laughed a lot. Liked the cameo. The action was good. Still had a lot of over the top action scenes, but the fight scenes were great.

Was definitely futuristic. I thought Elba became a superhuman differently, but I didn't pay attention to the trailers so I'm not sure what hints they gave?

They should have saved it for a Christmas movie, it wouldn't have fit in last year with Aquaman but if they held it until November or early December this year it would have done much better.

Finally saw Avengers Endgame, it's good but once again way overrated IMO. I guess I'm just suffering from Marvel fatigue but this movie was really predictable and while the special effects were great (Hulk looked amazing) I just found it to be enjoyable but nothing that makes me want to see it again anytime soon. I had a lot more fun with Aquaman, Shazam, Dr. Strange and Spider-Man homecoming than I did with this.

Bumblebee 4K

Hey look at that a transformers film that doesn't suck!

Hopefully not a one off and looks gorgeous in 4K.

But that opening just makes me want a War on Cybertron movie even more.

The Lion King (2019) - Average

Never saw original so I can’t compare. CG was incredible. First one to ever top Tranaformers’ transformers.
Lion King is arguably the best animated movie of all time and you haven't seen it?

Don’t like animated movies much, and I don’t like musicals. That describes Disney drawn movies. Only seen, I think, one drawn Disney movie, Bambi.

I will see it though.

Lion King was probably my favorite movie of theirs growing up. Give it a shot. The music is actually good. Doubt I have time to catch the new film in theaters.

Have you seen the live action Jungle Book? the CG was amazing in that movie too. I haven't seen the animated or live action Lion King yet but the commercials for the LK look very impressive.

Brightburn, I liked it but I can see why others didn't care for it. I found it to be entertaining, clearly they cut corners with the set up because they expect that anyone who watches it already knows the story of Superman but it's worth a watch if you've ever wondered what'd be like to see Superman take a dark turn as a kid.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - Meh! Couple of laughs. Last 10 mins or so was good. Still don't agree with the "wasted cast" opinion. Although, Margot Robbie(think it was her) was wasted in her role.

I'm glad it was fantasy BS. As soon as I heard the name Sharon Tate I knew how it would end, thought I knew how it would end.

How did they cut corners? The set up is right there in a nice basic, unconvoluted way.

We know nothing about the couple before the baby arrives, we know nothing about anyone else in the town etc. I don't mind it at all but if someone who knew nothing about superman watched it they may be a bit confused, of course anyone who wants to watch it likely knows the story of Superman so it's not a big deal. I liked the movie, the kid was creepy as hell and the gore didn't seem to go over the top considering what the kid was capable of. It's funny I've heard people complain about how the movie treated women, it's as if his "Dad" and "Uncle" got off scot-free lol.

Alita: Battle Angel - Great

I completely understand the mobs of people online, begging for a sequel, now. The movie didn't flop but it wasn't a big success either. Digital/Physical sales, plus James Cameron's influence, will determine if it gets the Trilogy treatment just like Cameron wanted it to.

we don't need to know any of that. Wouldn't add anything other than making the movie pointlessly longer.

What is confusing? There is nothing to get confused over.

Generally speaking a movie has some type of set up for the story, they didn't need as much of that because everyone already knows the story of Superman. They don't tell us anything about where the kid came from or why he was sent, we could have gotten more set up with him as a younger kid and they could have showed him having things happen that would have hurt a normal child but had no impact on him, instead they just mention that he's never had a bruise or a cut during a conversation. The movie is pretty short by today's standards and they could have included some of that and it wouldn't have hurt the film at all. Again I liked the movie but it does have some flaws, they are easy to set aside though because the movie doesn't really pretend to be more than it is.

That isn't true. We do know wy he was sent. and where he comes from is largely irrelevant. Same as it is largely irrelevant in Superman. It gets explored in Superman because knowing where he comes from is a driving force of the character. That isn't the case in Brightburn...not yet anyway.

The story of Superman isn't the same anyway. Yes, lots of similarities but still very different. For starters, the reason Superman is good is in large part due to his earth parents. Which is why theif lives/characters are more explored. In Brightburn the parents are irrelevant, hence why exploring their characters is pointless. We know why the kid is how he is.
