What movies have you seen recently?

How does it stack up to the OG amerikan version?
People today seem to hate on the OG amerikan version, didn't find it worse than the japoonese original tbh
Both fine movies imo

They are both terrible in my opinion. The original is best.

The only American remake of a Japanese horror I like is The Ring. I actually prefer that remake over the original.

The dumb decisions made didn't help either.

You don’t think people make dumb decisions in war? Open a history book.

I’m a big war movie fan and what I loved most about it is how different it is from other war films. This felt more personal and realistic than just a big sweeping epic with huge battle scenes throughout.

Rewatched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood with tumorwoman the other night. Holds up as my favorite movie from 2019.

Watching Parasite maybe tonight and 1917 later this week. Will report back.

So far on the Best Picture list I've got the following:

Ford v Ferrari
The Irishman
Joker
Marriage Story
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Will try to see all of the list before Oscars, might have trouble getting to see Jojo Rabbit and Little Women due to availability.

Parasite - 👍👍Great flick that was very well directed, with probably the best story of the bunch I've seen. Loved it all the way through, really went wild there in the end.

1917 - 👍👍Gorgeous movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen. Very very intense movie that had me covering my mouth half the time. Mendes probably deserves at least Best Director for this one.

As for right now, I could see it going one of three ways for Best Picture between Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Parasite, and 1917. All worthy, though I think the first two have the best shot due to the Academy being the Academy.

I hope 1917 takes home a couple awards. Well deserved. I’ll check out Parasite when it comes out to rent.

Joker should win best picture. Pheonix should get best leading actor.

joker is my fav movie of 2019 easily so far, but i havent seen most of the other nominated movies yet

but i think joker excelled in 3 areas.. score, performance and direction

Watched a couple movies this past weekend, which is really odd for me, especially as both were on the same day. Had to make use of my Shudder subscription so watched Re-Animator. Not a bad movie. Definitely odd as hell but was fun for being an older movie. Also watched The Void (second time) and still a great movie.

I finally got around to see The VOID. Pacing was odd, but I get they didn't want to waste time on exposition and just hurried up cramming people into the spooky hospital.

Kind of wish the villain was a little more memorable. Nitpicks aside, it was a good ambitious attempt at 'Cosmic' Lovecraftian horror.

I just watched Parasite and it was really good, even the person I watched it with who hates subtitled movies thought it was really great (haha, win for me! I have no problem with subtitled foreign language movies)

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, to me, gets better each time I watch it. And it might be fitting if it were to win the Oscar, as Hollywood as we know it seems to really finally feel like a thing of the past (a good thing probably?) and Tarantino gave us what we wanted at the end there. He better not stop making movies, he's too good!

Haven't seen 1917 yet. Sounds like I should check it out.

The new Lion King hit Disney+ I watched it last night with the family. It was decent, looks amazing and that musical score got me in the feels.
Agree, but even though it looks amazing, I'd preferred if they'd made them more cartoony (at least in regards to how the face animates). At times it's hard to see who's who if same animal.

lion king and alladin was far inferior versions of the cartoons, cartoons had far more character and interesting visuals

Watched Ford vs Ferrari. Thought it was really good overall. Not sure how much would be lost on non-racing fans though, but I think it works for everyone.

It does have some of the horrible racing movie cliches like drivers suddenly hitting the gas pedal to the floor, as if maybe nobody else thought about going faster that way until that very moment :)

it is decent. I think Rush is a better movie for racing fans, though.

Terminator: Dark Fate - 7 major plot holes out of 10

Better than the last three but not as good as the first two.

Ya know. The fact the machines never send back more than one at the same time is baffling. This film is the closest it's ever come to doing that.

To quote Morpheus - "That sounds exactly like the thinking of a machine to me."
