Whenever I get a new generation console I always love the first Oh $h!Ţ moment.
With Dreamcast it was the ironically the graphics, lol, if you've read my posts you'll got the point. Original Xbox it was the built in hardrive, yes kiddos consoles didn't always have them. Last Gen I really didn't have one, until I plugged my 360 on live. Which was just 2 years ago. I had two this time around right off the back. 1 turning my console on with my voice, and 2 when My console signed me in automatically when I did this, then signed my wife in also. To me this was the first sign that I had a next Gen console.
I'd like to hear yours maybe instead of bickering amongst ourselves we can show each other why we picked the console that we did. I really hope this thread takes off. Who knows maybe a fanboy of one console might consider getting the " competition" after hearing yours.

Please try not to rain on others posts. Everyone has what they like.
PLEASE LETS KEEP THIS POSITIVE!

PS2: Graphics, mainly. Back then i didn't even know what a fanboy was..I just got the console i really wanted (probably because it was THE console to own). I remember going crazy over the graphics with some of the demo games that came with the console.

PS3: Graphics, Controller and online functionality. Online was new to me since i never went online with my PS2. It was awesome how easy it was to hop online and play. Motorstorm was the game that really impressed me at the start of the generation and not just because of the graphics..because it was fun as f*ck! Also the bluetooth Controller was convenient as f*ck.

PS4: Been a hardcore PC gamer since 2010 and onward so visuals don't really impress me much (at least not yet) but it is nice to see Console games close enough to PC quality. The real "Aww Sheeet" moment was the interface UI. everything about it is Fast, sleek, pleasant to the eyes. The PS4 makes it so easy for me to Play a game now when previously i couldn't be bothered. It is just a convenient system all around.

But, i think it's too early to judge with both the One and PS4.

I also have a 360 but to be completely honest i didn't have any such moments with it. Probably because i bought it so late in its life cycle (2010 - 2011)

My oh s*** moment was finding out how weak the hardware is compared today's technology. The 360 and PS3 were at least on par at their time.

On par with what exactly? Gaming PCs? Cos that's not true.

In 2005 when the 360 launched it had a state of the art GPU and the processor hung out with the big boys, Yes it didn't take long before the PC was more powerful but at launch it was "at the head of the class".

When I first turned on my ps4 to use its simple yet sleek UI, then I put in killzone and the first level graphics looked amazing to me. I haven't been an avid PC gamer for a few years now so the graphics looked good. My brother who isn't really much of a PC gamer said "damn, that looks so good".

360: First 360 game I played was Oblivion. There's that moment where you come out of dungeon and you see the vast landscape. At that point I was like, "oh ****, so this is next-gen"
PC: First time I played Crysis 2. As I played through the game, the graphics was better than the first game yet it was running much better on my PC, so that's when I knew that PC gaming started to change.
One: "Xbox, go to Need For Speed: Rivals" and it worked.

I actually don't think I've really had that moment that completely blows me away with my X1 yet. Not that I haven't had great moments in which I said this is next gen, but nothing that really makes me take a step back and just marvel at it. Closet thing so far would probably be the amount of zombies in DR3.

Nothing "Oh, sh!t," but the coolest was when I sat down on my recliner and the Xbox One automatically signed me in.

Side note: Let's not turn this thread into another measuring thread guys and gals.

I guess the controller for PS4 being so much better. How good BF4 looked compared to PS3 version.

N64 - Playing 4-player Goldeneye for the first time with friends.

Xbox Original - can't remember my first 'oh s***', but it was one of these 3: The start of the second level in Halo 1, playing 12-player split screen Halo 1 in my buddies basement (which had 3 big-screen TV's in it), and playing 16-player Unreal Championship the night Xbox Live launched.

Xbox 360 - One of these 3: Climbing the beach walls in Call of Duty 2, leaving the tunnels and exploring the world in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and the large battle in Gears of War 1 (I forgot what level it was).

Xbox One/PS4 - Don't know if I've had one yet. The closest to an 'oh s***' would probably be one of my first times playing 64-player BF4 and being in the middle of a firefight that involved 2 helicopters and several ground vehicles and resulted in the collapse of a skyscraper.

Same here. I had plenty of oh sh!t moments early on with the 360. After running PS4, I was like.....ok. Couple of weeks later, got rid of it.

my first oh s*** moment came when I stopped playing Forza in between races to go do some other stuff, came back and turned the Xbox back on to have the game right where I left it.

Trolling and baiting as usual. And plain wrong to boot.

OT: Recording a f***ing clip of gameplay on my PS4! And those textures and graphics of Need for Speed impressed my more than I thought they would. And BF4's image quality and framerate on the console too!

360 and PS3 put out better looking games super early in that generation. 2007 Crysis came and conquered
No they didn't. Crysis did came and conquer but even at the start of last gen PC multiplatform games still looked much better. Best example would be the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I'm sure you can find a comparison somewhere on the net.

This generation the Console systems are doing much better in terms of Hardware. Of course this still doesn't mean they put out better looking games than the freight train that is PC but a damn try i tell ya.
