Since it's almost Halloween i figured we could talk about our favorite horror movies. For me, nothing comes close to John Carpenter's Halloween. The movie is just pure brilliance. The story behind it and how it became so popular is awesome. I think Michael Myers is the most iconic character in a horror film. So what's your favorite horror movie?

I have to go with the original Halloween as well, always have been a fan since the first time I saw it, Halloween 2 and 4 were also pretty good.

I'd give honorable mention to another of Carpenter's film "The Fog" as well as Steven King's "Silver Bullet" and to the horror/comedy "An American Werewolf in London"

Yup, original Halloween. Reminds me that you don't need huge budgets, crazy effects, and intense gore to instill fear.

I can't choose a favourite but my top 3 are definitely The Shining, Alien, and Carpenter's The Thing. I've never seen The Fog before, gonna check it out now. Thanks for the recommendation!

Easy...Alien.

Some perhaps not so obvious favourites, Dusk Till Dawn & Dog Soldiers.

It's not really scary but more of a creepy movie and it has great cinematography, just make sure to watch the original and not the remake.

Alien will always be a favorite of mine. But I must say The Ring scared the bejeezus out of me.

I saw Child's Play 2 for the first time in awhile last night on AMC. Another favorite of mine. Chucky is awesome.

I watched Aliens as a kid & couldn't sleep for a few nights. From then, I knew I am not a fan of horror movies.

I watch the Ring, the Japanese one, in the barracks, & couldn't sleep well, despite sharing room with 5 others.

Shutter (The original Thai version) is also scary as hell.

I feel the scare factor dropped a few notches when remake by Hollywood.

Anyway, I have a fear of dolls and mannequins, & the film puppet master makes me go nuts.

When I was young, someone broke a china doll, & the head of the doll cracked. Horrible sight. I been scared since.

As for my favorite, I'll go with the obvious from my screen name:

VIDEODROME

I still consider this to be my all-time favorite film evar. It's a really good Sci-FI/Horror or Cyber Noir film that explore media technology in an interesting way. I've also heard this film was the inspiration for the Japanese film Ringu which then lead to the American film The Ring.

I also really like the heavy synth score produced by Howard Shore.

This isn't aiming to be purely scary exactly but more of a WTF did I just see MindFvck film.

The go-to standards would be The Thing, Dog Soldiers, Nightmare on Elm Street (number 3 is great too) and Alien...

Also a big fan of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland version), Funny Games, Don't Look Now, the Creepshow movies, The Devils, The Shining, Suspiria and Silence of the Lambs. An American Werewolf in London is brilliant too. And Targets is fantastic, but it's borderline horror movie.

Some older horror movies I love are Psycho, The Innocents, Eyes Without a Face, Black Sabbath (mainly only for the "A Drop of Water" segment) and Les Diaboliques (possibly my favourite movie of all time). The very old-school movies like Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, Nosferatu are obviously worth a watch too but most people probably won't find much genuinely scary about them (except Nosferatu maybe). In fact my favourite of all the Universal horror movies is Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein, very funny stuff.

And finally, I love the old BBC tv episode of Whistle and I'll Come to You (1968 ). Brilliant for a 40 minute episode of TV.

Probably missing loads but those are the ones that come to mind!

Now sure it counts but Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness I f***ing love.

so I hear The Babadook is the scariest movie to come out in ages....
the director of The Exorcist calls it" the most terrifying movie he has seen."
has anyone gotten a chance to check it out?
