I'll keep this as brief as possible.

So I was listening to Marc Marons WTF podcast where he interviewed Chris Cornell of Soundgarden/Audioslave fame today and I think Mr. Cornell touched on why I'm not really a huge fan of any mainstream artists today.

Mr. Cornell was walking Marc though Soundgarden's beginnings and he said that Soundgarden wasn't highly thought of by the indie community in the beginning, due the band being "unapologetically male". I instantly understood this description and thought "That's what I'm looking for!"

So, in this thread we recommend new/current/modern,somewhat mainstream bands/songs that you think classify as "unapologetically male". Here's what I can think of right now...

Jack White's recent solo albums...

Phantagram - Black Out Days...

Royal Blood - Out of the Black...

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch...

I'm gonna guess that the ones who want something "unapologetically male" in their music don't listen to much heavy metal or none at all, but....

Yeah, for some reason I never liked Metal. I liked Soundgarden because, while they were "unapologetically male", they also somewhat appealed to the masses. Bands like Mastadon never seem to do that.

I highly recommend the Austin TX band THE SWORD.

Imagine the classic era Black Sabbath in a more modern setting and that's what you get. Classic Metal. Songs about Conan the Barbarian and crazy planet hoping adventures trying to kill a dark lord.

Nothing appeals to the masses more than Tim and Eric. Unapologetically male to the max.

Rock is still hanging on by a thread. The local band scene in Louisville,Lexington and Indianapolis is pretty strong but sadly even those places are dying out :(

Last time I was in a pub everybody was staring into their phones/Ipads...barely acknowledging that a band was even playing.
