Yeah but this was a forum that started out as an xbox enthusiast site and a lot of us have been here the whole time, it's no surprise that the majority on this site are going with xbox. I'm sure the majority on this site have an X1 over a PS4 as well.
I was leaning towards Xbox until seeing that embarrassing Halo reveal. I was hoping to pick up some of the games I missed out on the Xbox the last couple of years, so I was gonna most likely get the Xbox first. I don't want either console at launch thanks to the uninspiring reveals they've both had.
im not gonna say your wrong, but if you do you could still catch up...and if you don’t want that instant hit you could go with their “all access” program (https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-all-access)

If the XBOX Series X is $500 or less, I'm there day one. Otherwise... XBOX Series S? Wait a year? Dunno.

I was looking to find an X1X for the last few months, but they've gone extinct. I don't want one of those digital only piles of crap or the X1S. I'm sure as hell not gonna bother with the new Xbox until they start releasing games that take advantage of what it should be capable of.

YOU go buy one used! I don't care enough about playing the games enough to buy one used or deal with the worry or hassle of it. Playing the current library on the new Xbox was gonna be a bonus, but if there's no reason to buy one at launch, then I'm not gonna bother until they have games that take full advantage of the hardware.
i highly doubt there’s gonna be a game on either platform that takes full advantage of the new hardware, games like forza and gt may though but looks like we’re getting those mid to late next year

On the Sony side, I’m not even sure what games will launch with the system either. I’m thinking it’s going to be slim pickings there too as far as new games. Ratchet looks beautiful. But I’m just not a big fan of the series. I have the PS4 one as a download and never play it.
I guess it will come down to ease of finding either console/pre order, or if we find out more about enhancements to current gen games. We know of a few for XSX. But I’d like to see if GOW, Last of Us 2 or Ghost of Tsushima get enhancements.

I got one day one, but if it broke I'd prob buy a used one, I'm guessing they're fairly cheap now.
YOU relax! Used consoles are selling for fairly high prices on eBay now thanks to the pandemic. A lot of them cost more used than they did new.

Yeah, I just mentioned in the xsx thread that I realized that both consoles are going to have RDNA2 with RT cores, and developers right now are using PCs that approximate the console. Normally that's fine, and common practice, but, uh, there are zero RDNA2 cards on the market now. I know ms and presume Sony already have some launch versions of their consoles built but who knows when or if they've been able to give dev kits with the actual GPU architecture in them to even first party.
Leaning PS5 day 1 only because I have seen nothing compelling yet on the Xbox exclusive side my 1X can’t handle.

what games are compelling ya to the ps5, any launch games or launch window/holiday ones? Right now it’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, but doubt I’ll get around to it with my backlog lol
Spider Man for me- that looks fun and I love the winter setting.
For me, there's two options that make a lot of sense:
-buy at launch
or
-buy at the first price drop (maybe holiday 2021)
I used to wait 6 months, then buy a new console, but I'd end up paying the same full price for the same unit anyway. Why wait in that case when a price drop is still probably another year out?
Yeah, all of the consoles are fetching high prices these days...especially older consoles/handhelds.
It's okay, I will forgive you this time.
I will be buying the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 both on day one of their release, assuming I can get my pre-order in fast enough. This is just a hobby for me, and at this age in my life, money is no longer an obstacle. For me there is nothing like opening up the new boxes, taking the hardware out, connecting them to the TV, and going through the setup process. Then set all my digital games to download, play around with the new dashboard and take screenshots and pictures of the hardware and post them here at the Union. It's super fun.
