Why the Wii U is the best next-gen choice this Christmas.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-next-gen-line-up-from-the-unlikeliest-source

Earlier this week, Nintendo confirmed that it was ceasing production of the Wii. You probably don't need reminding of its successes, just as Nintendo likely doesn't need reminding of the shadow it has been operating under with its successor.
The Wii U, according to every sales report since its release late last year, has been a disappointment and, if you've an inkling for melodrama, something of a disaster. The common consensus is that Nintendo blew its 12-month head start.

Yet in spite of weak messaging and third-party support that has already been dramatically reduced, something amazing is happening:
heading into the first Christmas where it will be toe to toe with the Xbox One and PS4, the Wii U isn't just sizing up to the opposition - it's fast becoming, I reckon, the best next-gen proposition over the coming months. Maybe Nintendo didn't blow its lead after all - maybe it's been using the time wisely

Its another Gamecube for me. Something I might pick up for £40

I wished it was another Gamecube lol. It had a pretty good launch lineup with Wave Race, Luigi's Mansion and Star Wars: Rogue Leader and by the end of the year it had Eternal Darkness. Those 4 games are still better than anything for wiiU currently imo.

So basically Ninty has Mario. Shocker.

but me, I would rather wake to violence, and having the inferior Wii U versions of games isn't a plus from the dwindling 3rd party support. I mean COD MP on Wii U or on the industry leading Live ? I would like to think that is a no Brainer.

I'll be waiting for a few christmas's to pass before I get a Wii.
Till it has a good first party back catalogue to chose from

I'm happy the console isn't doing very well and hope the reports suggesting there will be another price cut in the middle of 2014 are true but for selfish reasons, I want one but I will wait until the backend of 2014 to buy one with Mario Kart 8 and any other Mario related product they have available.

This is very short-sighted article. People say that X1's lineup is the best not just because the launch games are good, but there will be more in the coming future. Wii U might have the most robust lineup right now, but give it a year and it will be outclassed by both X1 and PS4.

Yup I had it in my head to buy a Wii U early on but third party title were inferior to current gen consoles. LOL

IMO it' not a good main console but a great secondary or third one. No way in hell I would be playing games like Watchdogs on the Wii U versus PC/X1/PS4. Who does that?

o_O

I love Nintendo, but I just use my Wii U for single player experiences. So it may collect a little dust until Mark Kart or Smash Brothers comes out.

I imagine it can't be too long before the price of the WiiU drops considerably. I'm waiting for that.

One day the Wii U will be $149 and there will be about 10 games are so I'd like to play on it. That might be 2016 but honestly I'm fine waiting.
