Windows 11 - Free Update, But Is Your PC Worthy? BUT WAIT There’s A WORKAROUND

I haven't tried it yet. But at overclock.net there are posters saying it's like Windows 10 with a new pair of shoes. It only takes 5 minutes to upgrade. The speculation is that Windows 11's goal is to run well on mobile devices as normal PCs and compete with Chrome OS, which the cancelled Windows 10X was being designed for.

1) It will open the store to apps made in anything, including Win32, which should make the process of porting over from something like Steam much easier, if not nonexistent.

2) You can use Microsoft's built in commerce engine to make money on your apps, or you can use your own built-in commerce solution and pay Microsoft 0%. That's insane. Truly, truly insane. However, it's not clear whether this applies to games, as MS often treats apps differently from games. We already know that Microsoft is only taking 12% for games on Windows Store. But, if it does apply, this would particularly incentivize major game companies to prioritize Windows Store as a destination.

3) Android apps via the Amazon Android store (and delivered via Intel bridge).

Do you have Secure Boot turned on in bios and TPM 2.0 support?
Just checked. I had to disable CSM support in Secure Boot and had to search for TPM to change it from Discrete to Firmware. Passed the PC Health Check for Windows 11.

Direct Storage is a Windows 11 exclusive. Really, Microsoft? Requires a DX12 Ultimate GPU, which is nearly impossible to obtain in this scalper/bots/global chip shortage crisis. I guess they backpedaled on supporting DX12 in general.

When I went to disable CSM support, I can't get back into bios after to enable Secure Boot, so I'm screwed. Either way I only have a 512GB NVme SSD so I would need to upgrade.

I had that problem before, so I was pretty hesitant to disable CSM support. I restarted my PC after disabling it and my screen flickered a few times. I thought, crap, here we go again. Then it booted up to desktop. Weird it's working without problems. Going to restart right now and see if anything changes.

Edit: Rebooted and it works as normal. That's good I guess. FYI, I updated my bios about a year ago. Maybe that's why it's working now?

It boots to my desktop fine after I disable CSM but my P.O.S.T screen just doesn't show up so I have no way to get back into the bios to enable Secure Boot, even through Windows. Only way to get back in is if I reset my CMOS battery, which I tried and I was able to see the P.O.S.T screen again to get into bios but CSM support is enabled again, lol.

I could try updating my bios but I don't even have a 1TB NVme so what's the point haha. May just upgrade significantly when I feel my PC is sluggish. So far, it's still fine for what I play.

My post screen always displayed in some very low resolution before CMS being disabled. After disabling it my post screen displayed in native resolution. Maybe yours just disappears, but can still access your bios by pressing the bios command?

Nope. Spammed Delete and F2, tried restarting into bios from windows recovery area, no go for both.

Just straight boots into windows login from a black screen.

Got it to work!

Just needed to enable Intel Platform Trusted Technology (PTT) in bios. Didn't need Secure Boot or have CSM support disabled. Whew.

PTT is TPM with a different title. I learned that from googling as I had trouble finding it on my bios earlier. But cool, you can upgrade to Windows 11 for free when it's available.
